  • This is a plain Streuselschnecke/Streuseltaler recipe. This is very popular pastry in Germany. The name of this pastry is inspired by the shaped of the "taler" or thaler in English which means German Silver Coin. It was used from the 15th century to early 19th century in Germany.
    Ingredients:
    For the dough:
    *150ml "lukewarm" milk
    *50 grams granulated/fine white sugar
    *7 grams instant dry yeast
    *75 grams butter or margarine
*350 grams All Purpose Flour (use Mehl #550 in Germany)
    *1 large egg
    *A pinch of salt
    For the Streusel
    *150 grams butter or margarine
*100 grams Sugar (use only 55 grams if you like it less sweeter)
    *200 grams All purpose flour
    *Vanilla Sugar (optional)
    For the Sugar Glaze
    *125 grams Sugar
*1 to 2 tablespoons water or milk or lemon juice
Thank you and feel free to ask questions.

What is the USA equivalent of Mehl 550? I know it’s all purpose flour in Germany but that flour isn’t even close to USA All purpose flower

Hello! The flour here is really different. But you can use all purpose flour. A few friends in my home country use all purpose flour and they like the result...
