Song 1: Puthem Chaobi, folksong from Chakpa Andro. (Rare ancient song)

This song is one of the rare old songs which are now rarely sung and can only be found with the elders of the old villages like Chakpa Andro. Iche Puthem Chaobi ,lives in the “Chakpa" village of Andro, in the Imphal Valley of Manipur. Since she was a young girl she has had a passion to learn and sing folk songs and now she is one of the last living singers of many old and rarely sung songs of the Andro valley. She was a very popular performer and troubadour in her time and was in great demand for local functions, weddings, and parties. Now in her 80s, she still lives in Andro, and has her children and grandchildren. We spent an afternoon recording some songs with her.
