    Great video, 1 question I wasn't clear about: I'm going July-Aug, do I need or do I not need a wetsuit?

    Damn, this one hit me right in the heart Crystal!
    Girlfriend and myself lived there last winter (well, summer in Mauritius) and would still be there if it weren't for visa issues!
    We lived in La Gaulette which I must say is the perfect spot for anybody looking to kiteboard in Le Morne but still be able to go round the island.
    Heartwarming clip, nice edit (I guess thanks Rygo? :-)) !

    I kited there on the outside on the big waves and inside and my girlfriend did lessons in the learning area during Xmas. The tide and the the shallowness makes it tough for learners, the instructor for my wife got attacked by some sea worm thing...absolutely not a spot for beginners and not ideal for learning IMO. Strekke1986 below in the comments sums it up very nicely. Too far to go to learn...but if you wanna ride that set outside the lagoon and you have the skills, its heaven...so, watch for low tide in the lagoon, definitely buy a rescue package if you go outside the lagoon, and make sure you are a highly skilled kiter...

    Love your videos!
    Feedback: sometimes the background music competes with the voice... Just a small adjustment in the editing.
    Thanks again for all your videos!

    How easy is it to get in touch with people there? When kiting I often travel on my own, but I don't want to all day every day alone.

      If you're a social person, you shouldn't have too much trouble meeting fellow kiters on the beach! The only challenge can be that most travelers come in groups or with families, but on my trip I saw a few solo travelers. If you're traveling on your own, look for a hostel or kite guest house!

      If you speak basic french very easy. Mauritian people are very friendly and usually speak both french and english quite well. Population around Le Morne is mostly black people that tend to have a bit better french than english, but still mostly everybody in the kiteboarding community speaks both languages.

      You won't be alone, don't worry. Better come during the local winter season June-September, best trade SE wind, especially if you come for a short while. Other times could be touch and go, so better stay for longer, there is a huge lull at the moment, for example...

    How is the spot for foiling?

    • @strekke1986
      @strekke1986 5 років тому

      Lagoon is shallow with rocky reef bottom so not ideal.

    • @CrystalVeness
      @CrystalVeness 5 років тому

      Andrzej, I did see some foilers in Le Morne while I was there but there are so many shallow spots that it's not ideal. You can foil in the channel where it's deeper, or foil with a short mast but be careful of reef. There are other spots around the island that may be better for foiling. The wind was also quite strong throughout the trip.

    • @bricecarpentier5817
      @bricecarpentier5817 5 років тому

      Not the best, but it is possible. Best spot for foiling in Mauritius would be Blue Bay / Pointe d'Esny if I'm not mistaken (South-East, closest spot to the airport actually, while Le Morne is South-West)

    These destination films are really professional filmed and the presenter is great. But how come the sound is horrible? I can imagine that you invest a lot in these film, is make no sense to fribble with the last most easy stages of production

    Mauritius is beautiful and has good kiting IF you have the skills - there are way better locations for learning. Apart from being super far, it definitely has its downsides (as mentioned in the video). Expensive with overall bad value-for-money (it's an island in the middle of nowhere, everything needs to be imported); kite lagoon is beautiful but absolute mayhem in season and full of beginners crashing kites everywhere, just too crowded, it's a shitshow and not a pleasant place to ride ; beach is not sandy but has sharp pieces of coral everywhere, you can really hurt your feet launching ; great expert waves but too many people underestimating the risks and not respecting the right of way - many people out there that shouldn't be there ; absolutely zero room for error on the decent wave days - very strong currents ripping out to sea, and the reef is 1,5 km out so you are faaaaar away from land. If things go bad, you can find yourself in a life-threatening situation in no time...

    • @CrystalVeness
      @CrystalVeness 5 років тому

      Agree it is a very expensive spot! But a beautiful place to ride!! I haven't seen it in the busiest part of the season so not quite sure how hectic it gets in the lagoon area, but I can imagine... Luckily, the schools and instructors I chatted with were very prepared and made sure the students had good feet protection! Beautiful place for groups with mixed levels to come because there's something for everyone - especially if everyone is aware of the risks and dangers! Haha, we definitely listed quite a few in the blog. How did you like your trip to Mauritius?

    • @bricecarpentier5817
      @bricecarpentier5817 5 років тому +1

      I'm not sure how expensive Mauritius is with respect to other spots you might have checked. Sure, the flight is expensive as hell, especially if you're not coming from Europe and car rentals as well (import tax on cars is 100% and creating a car rental company is reserved to mauritius citizens, which partly explain the price) . But apart from that? Not so much actually! You can find pretty amazing accomodation for ~20€ / night in various guest houses around La Gaulette, and you can eat traditional mauritian food like fried noodles and "boulettes" for as low as Rs 100 (~2.5€) or even lower if you dare ask people on the side of the road :D
      Pro tip: you can also purchase some gear for nice prices in Mauritius, get 12% VAT back at the airport and sell it back home for a profit to help pay for your trip :D

      @@bricecarpentier5817 I'm comparing to other major kitespots, food accommodation and car rental. Brazil is cheaper and food (both restaurants and supermarkets) and accommodation wise hit or miss, but overall way better value for money. Cape Town has high food standard and amazing accommodation and super cheap car rental, best value for money. Mauritius is more expensive and value for money for accommodation not that great. Food in supermarket expensive and shit quality compared to CT. Eating out in Mauritius bad value for money, if you want CT standards you have to go to the resorts and pay out of your ass. Local options like the noodles are cheap but personally nothing spectacular flavor wise, not something I would eat every day...

    • @bricecarpentier5817
      @bricecarpentier5817 5 років тому

      @@strekke1986 I obviously can't compare to CT or Brazil since I've never been there and I'm definitely not trying to convince you. That being said I have lived around Le Morne and I can tell you that you can definitely find amazing value for money both in terms of restaurants and accommodations. Actually, I'd say that the fancy hotels are definitely where you do *not* want to go. They *are* way more expensive than they're worth. That being said, Enso and Wapalapam (both featured in the video) are pretty good value for money (enso in the evening, wapalapam for breakfast), and you can find pretty nice value restaurants in Riviere Noire (at the Ruisseau Creole mall) and Tamarin. That being said, I do think the real value is the street food, which you seem not to have enjoyed that much :-)
