    I've ordered a F&B sample pot and will take it instore to get mixed if I like it. I'm assuming you can test the finished product before you take it home but I'm sure the lighting in everyone's home will reflect the shade differently. It's a tricky one and could work out quite costly if they don't get it right. I would love to try this brand but wow its expensive 😫

    Good to see a copy on a wall up against the original. Quite a difference! It's making me swing back towards F&B though my decorator is not a fan - most of his clients go for a Valspar or Johnstone colour matched copy.

      Farrow and bill will tell you the variance between tins is 0.002% which is rubbish. Colour consistency with F/B is shocking. Even the colour charts don’t match each other every time they are printed let alone each tin. She could have done this experiment with two F/B runs and they would be a difference. Also depends which cheap alternative she used. Johnstones use a 15 pigment tinkering system and can recreate colours more accurately than most if not all others. Pro decorator for years. This woman clearly isn’t by the way she is going about it. More about snobbery.

    I've just tested an area in my hallway with a Dulux copy of F&B's go-to colour 'Elephant's Breath'. Can honestly say it is NOTHING like the original 'EB' colour. I was shocked to see the Dulux copy was more brown and dull and flat compared to the soft warm and luminous tones of the original next to it. This also was the case when my mother attempted her living room in their green, 'Vert De Terre' with a trade copy. It's just no comparison - F&B def have a richness to their paints that is unparalleled when put up against cheaper pigment and I will be using them for my hallway. I agree with you, pay it or suck it up and find another colour!

    I bought downpipe for my living room. Love the colour but it was such bad quality. Took 4 layers, kept coming off on the corners, coming up patchy and just didn't go on very well at all. I've heard a lot of people saying this. The other rooms I used valspar and it went on amazingly. Only took 2 coats and looks a lot better. Angela Hyde: I don’t rate Dulux copies at all, plus their machines are often very poorly calibrated so the colours vary wildly. Johnson’s copies are much better, but still differ a lot in time.
      In terms of durability I agree that trade wall paints are hardier. But people don’t buy wall paint from F&B for hardiness.
      I’ve not had issues with internal F&B woodwork paint, but don’t really rate their external paint very much. Crown eggshell is the hardiest, Johnson’s is good too, but obv neither do a matt finish like F&B.

    For similar price Little Greene beats F&B. Their Absolute Matt barely needs a second coat, has a great finish and later touch-ups don't stand out. The old oil based is also better than the umpteenth-reformulation of water-based stuff. As a bonus you don't have to say you used F&B.

  • @GoogleBot-lf7xv

    I used F and B in my cottage. Never again! While I agree that the colours are gorgeous the interior paint rubs off the walls and in fact rubbed off within 6 months of application. It’s very thin paint too and has to have a minimum of two coats. This makes it even more expensive IMO than Earthborn lifestyle clay paint, for example, which I can usually get away with one coat. The exterior paint fared no better. Despite following the manufacturing directions the paint has blistered, peeled and flaked and after only 3 years will have to be done again despite a 5 year guarantee. Im going to use either linseed oil paint or Osmo for future exterior applications. The Osmo has lasted 5 years so far.

    • @Moregeous
      @Moregeous  3 роки тому

      I've never had any problems with the F&B paint rubbing off the wall Louise - that doesn't sound right at all! Did you contact them? I always do two coats of any wall based emulsion, that's fairly standard to achieve a good depth of colour.
      With regard to the external paint, I've had an issue before now but it was due to poor prep, i.e. the external hardwood timber had not been correctly primed so the water based F&B paint blistered up after 2yrs. Oil based paint is definitely more hardy in extreme temperatures / outdoors, no matter what any paint companies say.

Yes, the Dulux paint may cover in fewer coats, but it's also quicker and easier to make beans on toast than it is to make Beef Wellington. Speed and ease is only one consideration.
      As I said before, of the colour matches I've seen, they're not even close to the originals that they're trying to mimic; the base, the depth or the finish. The fact that most rely on the RAL system that was invented for industrial paints with only 1,625 options in the entire colour gamut should be evidence enough.
