I think Alyx has greatly underestimated just how much this audience likes Cody. Rock vs. Roman could have easily been done at Elimination Chamber or Summer Slam.

Cody left WWE in 2016 to overcome Stardust and the stigma of just being there as a mid carder he was wrestling at every indi show at every high school gym he didn't reinvent himself he basically reinvented the wrestling business when he sold a 10k capacity arena in just under 30 mins he has scratched and crawled from the the very bottom and he has earned everything that he has gotten in wwe today he proved it when he fought with a torn pec amd gave a 5 star classic. We can't just live in the past now the landscape is changing and for the efforts and hardwork people should be rewarded!

For those who want to see this match, all I ask is why? Ignore the money and business talk, I get all that. I don't get the intrigue with this match. It does nothing moving forward. Rock wins, he's not there. Roman wins, he's not there and continues his overly long title run. The match won't be good and the promos will be lame because Dwayne is not The Rock anymore.
Its not about the money or crap, no one cares about that. Rock is part of Roman's family and the story ties into itself. It's like rock vs cena, rock wasn't sticking around either and people wanted that match. Granted cody shouldn't have been made to look like a fool, but I wanted this match because its a spectical
@@Raytheman581 Rock vs. Cena had a year built to it, this doesn't. It would have made more sense for Rock to wait until next year and build it up with no title on the line so it's less predictable. Doing it this way just feels like Rock pulling a power move and ho'ing Cody out of his spot.
It's a dream match and, for a change, WWE didn't overthink it & just booked it when both guys are fit & up for doing it. This was the correct decision, in 5-10 years when Cody's won the title a few times & this buzz has calmed down/moved onto another guy, most people will be glad they booked this match now because for better or worse (cos the match could potentially suck for sure) they'll know it happened & wasn't left on the long list of missed opportunities headed up by Taker vs. Sting.
The business argument doesn't actually factor in that much cos WrestleMania is the draw these days regardless of what the card or main event looks like. And creatively speaking lets be really honest here, Reigns (and the bloodline specifically) has been the storyline that's driven WWE for years now, and if The Rock had no part to play in it by the time it finishes that would've gone down as one of the biggest 'what if's' in recent memory! Cody's story can survive without his match, Reigns' will always have an Asterix attached without this match.

I don't need a year build up because unlike rock vs cena this writes itself and doesn't require anything but a few weeks. So again I did want it, but not to screw cody out of anything. Cody shouldn't have won RR if he was gonna do this and I'd have been more fine. Doesn't change that I still want to see roman vs rock though.
Personally I don’t see the intrigue in Cody Rhodes so I don’t necessarily care about Cody, too be fair I don’t watch wrestling anymore and I’m only watching again because of The Rock, so I get it because I was there rallying for Daniel Bryan but I’m only watching Wrestlemania to see the Rock so my opinion may not be as valid.

Dude it’s really simple if the plan was Rock Roman, why the fuck do you have Cody win the royal rumble match? The royal rumble match winner literately it in the stipulation is guaranteed to wrestle a world champion at wrestlemania of their choosing. Cody’s choice is Roman Reigns The Rock coming out and taking that spot and Cody just handing it over to him makes Cody look completely stupid and it makes The Rock look completely selfish especially since everybody knows he’s a board member now.

It really is about the moment man. You think that reaction to Rock and Roman was big, dude Cody beating Roman is going to be legendary. It’s going to be the Undertaker finally losing at Wrestlemania, or Bruno finally losing his belt after 8 years, but without the sadness. WWE has never, in the history of its company, created this moment before. They’ve had small spurts similar to this is going to be, but the magnitude of what this moment will be, I think allot people are just starting to wake up and realize how epic it’s going to be.
Cody vs Roman Reigns 2 has so much fucking potential. Like greatest match of all time. It isn’t just about Cody finishing his story, it’s about the beginning and middle of his story, and the twist and turns his story has taken, both kayfabe, and real life. Who Cody has become in the last 5 years, from being at the middle of the card, to getting himself to a level, only Cena has managed to reach as babyface in the last 2 decades. The first match they had was easily one of the best matches WWE’s ever presented, and it will not get that recognition until the bad taste is wiped out of the mouth of those that witnessed it. I, myself have tried numerous times to rewatch it, and I can’t. I know what the ending is. As a wrestling fan, even as an adult, you crave for the moments in this form of entertainment that make you feel like a kid again, and that moment Cody lost, when it really seemed like he would be victorious, it just destroyed me.
I never thought that this guy would ever reach this level, when I was 12 and the Legacy was peaking, I thought he had the least potential of the guys in that group. Teddy Jr had World Champ written all over him. I stopped watching Wrestling religiously in 2013, I’ve followed the product, but Rock/Cena 2 put a nail in the coffin for me. Cody’s return at Mania 2 years ago is what dug that nail out. I really hope WWE doesn’t screw this up. They haven’t made anything official yet, I hope the fan outrage is as real as it seems. I want that moment so bad.
It feels like backstage politics led to this outcome and that's especially frustrating when we were supposedly free of that after Hunter took control of creative. If this is actually the game plan for WrestleMania then the Rock is likely going to have flashbacks to the 2015 Royal Rumble regarding crowd reaction.
I think Cody Rhodes going finish it at elimination chamber and defeat Roman for the title this is genius if they do this so I think WWE is too smart to make a horrible decision

Cody losing his spot would be bad enough, but this match got approved because The Rock thinks the media attention for this dream match will distract from Janel Grant's lawsuit. The fanbase has been betrayed by Vince's (alleged) actions, Brock's off the card because of his (alleged) involvement. This anger has to happen, this anger should happen. There may be under malice directed at Roman, but The Rock kind of deserves it because he is a famous, powerful man trying to suppress the story of an (alleged) abuse victim. I don't think he is shredding documents in the office, wiping hard drives or sliding a briefcase of money to the investigator like Vince (allegedly) did for Snuka, but The Rock is shielding the company, and because we don't know who else may have been involved or knowledgable, he may be shielding abusers.

Rock V Roman was an excellent moment and a good build for the match.

Seth had McIntyre ready and waiting, and Priest still has the MITB. This move was not necessary at all, Cody got shafted. I don't mind Rock v Roman, but a 2 year build-up for Cody's moment, including back to back RR wins just got tossed like yesterday's trash. This is like a monkey's paw wish, Rock v Roman finally but at the expense of basically the last 2 years.

The timing man... THE TIMING! Cody has been through stardust, being booked like a bum in wwe, the death of his father... so he ended up betting on himself and left the wwe to build his own brand. He was in Impact, Roh and all kind of other independent companies. Built himself up to a bonafide STAR. He helped get AEW off the ground and was a staple there and by the time he went back to wwe he was on FIRE. HE is the guy to beat Roman... Gets aaaaaall the way to Roman at Wrestlemania and then loses... Fans including me was like okay, this is just a part of long term storytelling. He wins the Rumble this year and im like oh Cool... wasnt expecting that but cool. We've been waiting a yeeeeeear for him to lock up again with Roman. Well according to certain news sites Cody is facing Rollins for The World Title, but then again we're only in February things can change from now till April 6th its still early.
I’ve been watching wrestling and wwe over 40 years and I grew up watching The Rock and Stone Cold era and I love the Rock but this isn’t the time or place because Cody won Royal Rumble like he was supposed to and get his Maina match! You said you have been waiting 10 years for this, everyone that is upset have been waiting over 45 years for Cody Rhodes to finally finish his dad Dusty Rhodes story and finally win the WWE Championship like his dad should have over 45 years ago!
I don't think Rock/Roman is a bad idea in itself. But Rock should've won the Rumble, or they should've gotten to it another way, like Rock challenging Cody for his spot. What makes the story suck is that Cody is (seemingly) just voluntarily giving up the spot he's been talking about getting for two years.

This proves that WWE fans actually care about the story! This is also similar to Ronda, Becky and Charizard. It cheapened the story significantly that fans only wantdd to see the ending. It’ll be the same for Roman and Rock if it goes to WM. Nobody wants to see two people who don’t wrestle full time out on a half match

The Rock is one of my favorite superstars/wrestlers of ALL TIME. All time. I LOVE Roman Reigns. He is tremendous. Love him. Say what you will about his limited schedule, his intermittent title defenses and appearances (I would even agree with you). Roman vs Rock is something the powers that be (keeping in mind said powers have kind of gone in and out of a revolving door) have been trying to make happen for some time now. AND I’ve wanted it to happen….
Now though….the landscape of the WWE has a host of superstars both new and established. There is now a depth in the collective rosters that was lacking not too long ago. We now have superstars-Cody, Seth, Punk (down but not out), Drew, Sami, Jey UUUUSO, Bron, Kevin, Knight, Priest, Gunther, Bayley, Becky, Rhea, Jade, Bianca, Io, Asuka, Lyra, and MORE-that have come into their own, that have established themselves through an ocean of blood, sweat, and tears as the superstars we want to see battle it out each week, the superstars that we are invested in, the superstars we have come to love and adore and cheer and boo with every fiber of our souls. In short, the talent in WWE is arguably the best it has been since the Attitude Era. Wrestlemania 40 can stand solely on the merits of this current roster and go down in history as one of the best WMs of all time.
I LOVE The Rock. I appreciate Alyx’s sentiments. And I understand them. I respect them. And I dare say I will be on the edge of my seat as I watch Rock and Roman build to their confrontation under 70 days from now and remain on said edge as they meet in Philadelphia at the Showcase of the Immortals.
BUT….I cannot ignore the feeling in my heart that the wind has been taken out of the sails of my anticipation just a little bit.
I’ve become fully invested in Cody Rhodes as the new face of the WWE. My wife has too (I love watching wrestling with her). He is passionate, physically gifted beyond words, eloquent, kind, electric, charismatic, and downright TOUGH. People talk about the antidote-TKO and WWE talk about the antidote we all need to the horrific story of Vince McMahon’s depravity claiming victim after victim after victim, soiling the spirit of professional wrestling, casting a dark cloud on, well, humanity itself. The PERFECT antidote to all the terrible things that have come to light-in my humble opinion-is Cody Rhodes finishing his story and finally dethroning Roman Reigns at WM 40, honoring his late father’s legacy, honoring his OWN legacy, giving us the ULTIMATE feel good moment. There’s your antidote.
THE ROCK vs ROMAN REIGNS is a tremendous dream match. Tremendous. And I will not spew toxic rhetoric and negativity over the fact that it is apparently what we are now getting instead. And if I said I wasn’t looking forward to it AT ALL, I’d be lying. No, I’m not NOT going to watch WrestleMania. Please. Of course I am.
But I am disappointed and disheartened that Cody will not be getting his second, well deserved shot. I cannot deny it.

Um... Didn't WWE say that Roman isn't doing EC so how is Cody supposed to wrestle him if he's not booked for it? The story makes no sense and hopefully Cody can give us some insight on Raw. The problem with this is that Cody worked his ass off and EARNED his spot at WM to face Roman. We know that Cody didn't just give up his spot. WWE just better have a decent follow up story because how much longer do we have to wait for this story to finish? Cody needs to start his new story which is forging his legacy. And 2 part timers main eventing WM, even though it's a dream match with the Rock now wanting to win the title will be really bad for WWE as the fans are tired of not having a working champion. Seth is a working champion and people respect him for it even though Roman made a mockery of him being a workhorse. He's a working champion and Cody will most definitely be one as well. The Rock vs Reigns could've happened later in the year with a head of the table match. But anyway, let's see how this pans out with the 51 year old who hasn't wrestled in 10 and a champion who wrestled like 5 times last year.

I'm going to be at Mania and I'm excited to see the rock but I think there's more to the story, there's still 2 months until Mania and lots of story to be told, I think they're going to do right by Cody in the end they know he's their next guy, they're doing exactly what they're supposed to do get everybody talking and wanting to tune in for more to see where they're going.

You can have your view on the situation and it's 100% okay to have this view of you rather see rock vs Roman because it's the bigger dream match... Just make sure you keep that same energy moving forward and you can no linger take the stance of wwe is wrong for doing the bigger match that people want to see over doing what's right no matter how much booking or what opportunity they earned... A good number of dislikes that that video generated between The Rock, Roman and Cody is fake. I think there's several bot/trolling farms ramping up those dislikes in a vain attempt to force the WWE to change their storylines and matches. The fact some of these fools are actually threatening to kill The Rock's oldest daughter is just mind boggling. Most videos online that gone viral have some element of bot activity behind it.

I feel like I understand why they're mad. Brock Lesnar when they thought he was going to get another shot but then he got attacked by Brock Lesnar. When he built himself back up he ends up not getting what heat what he actually won. I can see why they're angry am I upset not really because the Rock and Roman is still a good match. However for him to do that and give it up it kind of feels like WWE is denying the right for there to even be a long-term story there. It was already a long-term with him building himself back up just for him to give up that spot. Just my opinion. I do respect your opinion Alyx I just feel like I can understand where they're coming from. However I'm with you 100% about the Rock versus Roman is going to be a great match. People are going to enjoy the match they're just not happy about what is happening with Cody Rhodes.
Straight up. Rock is bigger than Cody at this moment (every moment for the duration of the universe). It's a no brainer. They'll get over it. I hope they can make everyone happy but if Rock and Roman gonna be official, so be it.

I like u Alyx i really do but you're missing the point as to why we are upset. We have invested over 2 years into Cody's story. When u present a story u look to become emotionally invested. When Cody lost last year they presented the story as Cody needs to go thru adversity & we accepted it because we thought the payoff was coming but what happened we get a detour into the story involving someone (The Rock) who again gets the main event spot taking away the spot that belongs to Cody cause hes put in the work. Nobody wants to see The Rock get gassed 5 mins into the match,nobody wants to see Rock tear something again cause hes not in ring shape. This aint video game booking this is booking for fans who have supported the product im shitting on this match cause its not needed.

Semi Main Event on either Night One or Night Two:
Bayley vs. Iyo Sky for the WWE Women's Championship
It will be the Women's Match that gets their Main Event slot smited away for Rock vs. Roman. Cody just faces Seth Rollins this year instead of Roman Reigns.

Here’s where I’m at… I was bummed for Cody, but he doesn’t need to win at mania! He already got his main event there…They can do it at summerlam… him finishing the story is winning the WWE title … punk is the one that needed that main event… I was feeling down on this but seeing that reaction from the crowd and yea, I got goosebumps, I’m bummed I’m not going to Mania but this is definitely the right move..could feel the electricity… Cody is on the right path.. he can give Seth a break from being the work horse… keep elevating the WH title… orrrr challenge Roman at elimination chamber… he said… not at Mania.. that makes perfect sense…I like this.. big cuz coming in to humble little cuz, hope they don’t scrap it. I actually feel sorry for Roman because he takes pride in current storyline after royal rumble if rock entered the rumble and won no one be upset . People not upset about match fixtures I like the rock but make zero sense have Cody wins points at Roman than Roman reacts at Cody same time than from Sunday to Monday after a change shifted. Rough writing by creative it sucks no winners in this situation

It's official now and I don't like it. I'm going to skip wrestlemania and probably take a break from wrestling. I have been watching since 1990, bought ever ppv until maybe 2004ish. I started to get uneasy with wrestling and after The Rock and CM Punk stuff I stopped. Haven't watched regularly for nearly a decade but got invested in Roman vs Cody last year. They're my two favorite wrestlers and I was so pumped to see them feud again. Now I don't even want to watch wrestling or follow wrestling content. I might just be done. And my sons favorites are Cody and Roman too and this just sucks.
