I was at this live with my Dad. I sent this to him and we both watched it on opposite coasts. Thank you so much.

Nice piece of history you have here, it shows a transitional stage between the old school monster trucks from the 80's and the modern-day monster trucks.

great video, a trip down memory lane. I used to go to all these shows with my Dad, so many great memories from the New Haven Coliseum.

This is great with the mix of old school and the new generation coming in at this time.

You’d be surprised how hard they ran this series back then!

I was at either this event or one a year or two later. My memory is fuzzy since I was five years old and as you can tell from the increased visible fumes as the event goes on... the ventilation system was not up to spec for a modern arena and may have effected my tiny memory. Anyway, we were trying to explain to our nephew after monster jam this week about how the car crushing stuff was cooler than the monster jam arena show and this helped prove it. Did they also hose down the floor and run a demolition derby at the end? Or maybe it was a different year after all?

Interesting that Thunder Nationals was USHRA-sanctioned but not run by PACE early on.

Originally a completely independent tour and only certain events had the USHRA sanctioning. Erie, Lima, Madison, Mansfield, Jonesboro, Wheeling, and many others were operated by concepts Inc without USHRA involved for many years. The monster nationals was built out of the portion of the tour sold to George Eisenhart Jr. in late 1998. Pace didn’t take over officially until after first quarter 1998 when they purchased the Thunder Nationals name and tour from Aaron Polburn. In fact the segments of the Thunder Nationals shot for inside monster jam in 97 and 98 were shot by the production company hired by Concepts Inc. and those master tapes were property of the Polburns and not Pace Entertainment

This was the best sport in the world to me when i was kid in 1980s and early 1990s. Today is nothing compared to way it was back then.
