Man, this is awesome, but I just can't help but think how some VHS recording in a basement or whatever 20 years ago has 10 times better audio than some pro-recorded festival footage from last summer I just got done watching..
Man, I feel old, I was at that show! I miss the fireside, I got to see so many great bands there for no more than 6 bucks. AFI played there all the time back in the day. The Chicago punk scene died with the fireside.
@@niaboctruk138 It was really something special. I practically grew up there, and I wouldn't trade any of those memories for the world. Maybe the smells though, I'd definitely trade those for a homemade patch or two. Cheers!
I hate when that happens. I did that once at one of the dirt parties we have out here in the dessert. I was not in the band though. The bass player from a local band got exited & jumped off stage at the edge of the pit and my head struck the end of his bass nice & solid, so it could be heard for a couple seconds. I just kept moshing & they stopped playing to ask if I was OK. I was too drunk to realize the severity so I just raised my arm & yelled "yeah!", "woohoo!" or whatever. As I was yelling, I noticed blood running down my face & onto my chest. Fortunately, I had a good female friend there. They always have something that you can patch a wound with so she cleaned me up & vasalined the shit out of the wound. I shoulda got stitches but we were all way too drunk and too far from town. I woke up straddled to a boulder the next morning. Ahh, the good 'ol days! Likely to happen at an AFi show back then too, what with Davey kung fu fighting all over the stage. I'm sure some of you remember that. lol
I don't understand the hatred people have for AFI, even though they changed their sound in 2003 when I became a fan. Maybe it was because I was born in the early nineties, but I think everything that they create is pretty cool. I mean, they don't really sound like anybody else. They reach for versatile music and never recreate their songs. Why is that so bad...? I can admit that Decemberunderground isn't all that great, but I still love them for what they do, even without Mark and Geoff.
marty uribe exactly. You dont go from hardcore punk to goth pop rock and everyone just accepts it. I get it, as a band you cant play the same shit over and over. You have to grow as a band. But they grew IMO and a lot of other peoples eyes into a band for money. I saw the writing on the wall when art of drowning came out and hot topic was hocking all their stuff. Sad bc was such an awesome band back in the day and Daveys vocals are on life support these days.
See kids it wouldn't be another couple years til this new generation captured here in this video relearned how to circle pit to keep the flow. Perhaps the invention of UA-cam and the resurfacing of footage of a real hc scene 10-15 years prior had to educate this eager and lost cusp of eager would be punk rockers whom for the first time got to stay out to 11pm for the 1st time. Hc would once again regain its dignity ;-)
Just because they quit being a hardcore band doesn't mean they can't write good songs anymore. I love their earlier stuff especially this album but c'mon "girl's not grey" was it? Was a pretty good song when it came out and davey had a beautiful voice it was surprising to me. To me it seems like he fits in better with singing melodies than screaming although i do like him when he screams because he has a really original voice, his vocals where made better to sing more than screaming or yelling. I hate the stupid make up they had and some of the songs sounded visual Kei-ish but it doesn't change the fact they're a really talented band. And they where smart enough to figure out they can make money by changing their style so they can live off of it. It's funny cuz the word "Sell out" has gotten so old. Now days it's even hard for a band to "sell out" because all you assholes want everything free on Spotify and shit or even download it off UA-cam. Anyways, peace out. Go to punk rock shows or whatever. Everyone have fun.
haha. I saw gaslight anthem yesterday (10/11). they were one of the four openeing bands for rise against (which is still an amazin hardcore punk band). Gaslight was pretty good as far as opening bands go.
the only two that sound the same are answer that and proud of ya symaoye was waaaay harder than anything before black sails experimented with more somber stuff and art of drowning was the transition sounding album between punk punk and radio stuff
wtf? Are you kidding? They got money hungry and sold out to make more money. Yeah, they didn't get "worse" as musicians, but their music now sounds like all other pop alternative shit.
Thats not Geoff, that's Hunter.

Fireside bowl was so rad!

Wow, the band used to be so intense.
Man....what happen, I wanna go back to 1997
I hate when that happens.

Great band live see them at Highbury Islington the garage with good riddance good old days
Definitely prefer this afi over the AFI we know now. I love all of their music but damn theres something about their old stuff.
Yes, that's because their old stuff is good, not the new wave electro group they've become.

I miss the '90s. :( Awesome video. :) x
Why did I have to be 21 days old? I would’ve torn up at this show.

White T-shirt. Bad idea.
Great performance though. This song rocks.

;)
Haha! Too bad they weren't inspired by this music though.
Too bad indeed!
Just random, but I think Davey is wearing a Samhain shirt.
"Fucking Bloodfeast onstage up here" Another Davey Havok Misfits referene. hehe

Not sure how you thought that was Geoff Kresge.😧
the only two that sound the same are answer that and proud of ya
symaoye was waaaay harder than anything before black sails experimented with more somber stuff and art of drowning was the transition sounding album between punk punk and radio stuff
Yes it is
and their best in my opinion lol
geoff (I think I mispelled that) was their best bass player
Awh, how precious davey is being all motherly and taking care of mark. Thats real sweet. I wish davey acted like a man onstage...
Well many love me, Thanks.
Ive been listening to AFI almost longer than you have been alive FYI.
Get over yourself.
dude.. he busted his ass jajaja but he kept playing.. that's fucking hardcore.. that's what they used to be..
That looks like Hunter on Bass. By the way does anyone know why Mark was kicked out of the band? The whole band went to shit after his departure!!!
Its ninetees,probably97,
Better than anything they've done in the last 20 years
davey was around 17
21-22
Davey had just turned 22 before this show.
But did Mark finish the set?
HUNTER
It wasnt that. Wouldnt you get bored after writing 3 (kind of 4) albums of the same music? I would.
Well Jade dose play a lot more different style ...
he quit the band, no hard feelings though.
& the newbs stand back to watch in aw.
Haha.
=]
Man. Where did they go wrong? Used to be so awesome
Lol is that why he quit? haha
although Geoff is better it sadly is Hunter
Bullshit he is, TOM MORELLO, SLASH are kick ass guitarists.
Stop the show......he s hurt hahahahhahhahahahhahahah
Newbs???? What are you talking your are the noooobs.
wtf? Are you kidding? They got money hungry and sold out to make more money. Yeah, they didn't get "worse" as musicians, but their music now sounds like all other pop alternative shit.
