In 2001 they had to make it pre-rendered cinematic cutscene and now look what we have now, I love technology improvements
Had to come here and make sure I didn't miss out James introducing himself, because I got the chills when she called his name a few minutes after this scene while I was breaking glasses around. Yeah, he did not tell his name 😮
@@KidosuX I was literally coming here to check on that!!
Such a fantastic and chilling detail!!
There is such an excellent subtly to their voice acting in this version that's incredible. James has this level of sorrow and pain that he displays on every line. And Maria has this flirtatious seductive tone that still distinguishes her from Mary.
i feel like the actress for Maria really nailed the vibe; yes, she's seductive, but there're also faint hints of cynicism and sadness that peak through occasionally and expose more about who she really is
Goddamn the music and the way Maria brings the dialogue gives such distant emotional feeling
Yeah. They nailed it with the remake
literally an insane remake might be even better than the re4 remake fr
@@darealgreek feels like it honestly man
Nah. If you actually played the original game you'd know
@@123nicanor i have
@@123nicanor i have and this is better maybe if you play the remake you'd know
I love how in the remake Maria keeps interrupting James, she want to control him from the start
Maria in the remake is such a brilliant character. Salome absolutely nailed it!
Either you haven't even played the original game or you're blind. Just look at maria dude she's not even the same I don't know what happened to her. And the dubbing for this game is awfull
@Butcherofchambal we can argue endlessly about this. Yes, I played the original several times, replayed it not so long ago. While I loved it (for the story, not so much for the gameplay), the characters felt somehow shallow and the dialogues a bit off. I like the remake much better. It's just an opinion. And no, Maria is not the same, she's not supposed to look the same. There will always be folk that simply don't like the change, and that's ok. But I am not one of them. :)
@martine2651 just go and look up the first ever convo with maria in the original game. The Dialogs the facial expressions the accent everything was perfect. This one is just plain awful and everyone knows that
@@Butcherofchambal I can agree that it was different. It was more simplistic, maybe for the best, perhaps more poetic and dreamy. Maria's flirtiness was more emphasized. In the remake, however, they added complexity to the characters which I love. Everyone knows that... who's everyone? As always, people disagree on things. I respect it. I still love the original, I have actually just watched the original scene and enjoyed it. It does feel like two different games, both good in their own right.
@@Butcherofchambal the facial expression you serious?? spoken with nostalgia
Most fans of the original don’t like how monotone her voice is. But I think that’s intentional because she’s acting like a ghost. I prefer this than the original. It’s so on point to her character. She’s a mysterious and ghostly being after all. I like how the remake tried to correct the characterizations and added more depth and realism to them. For me it’s more convincing. Here’s my analysis on her line deliveries:
Her first two lines are monotone because she seems to know about James and that she already knows she looks like his late wife. She asks “Do I look like your girlfriend?” while looking at him almost expressionlessly as if she’s already saying “Do I look like a ghost?”. Think of it from James’s perspective. He can’t believe what he’s seeing! She looks like his late wife. She’s also being flirty by using the word girlfriend because she is interested in him. And then her delivery of the line “My name is Maria” is also monotone, making her appear mysterious and ghostlike as she introduces herself, shortly followed by “I don’t look like a ghost, do I?” which has a more humanly tone because she wants to convince him that she’s a real person.
Her following lines are mostly about conversing and also mocking him as if she has ill feelings towards him. I like how the remake changed her lines. At the part where she says “Is it because I remind you of her?”, she’s soo eerie. She moves like a ghost indeed. She doesn’t need to say “Maybe you hated her” which some fans think is better in the original. We can already see how creeped out James is. Their conversation ended differently and I like this better. Maria asks him “So it’s okay?” with a tone of relief and joy as if she’s happy that she’s not alone anymore. James agrees with a tone of care rather than hostility like in the original. His face is like “Yeah. What else can I do? You might say I’m a horrible guy if I just leave you here.”
The writing is so good in the remake. It’s really sad that most fans of the original can’t see that because they’re either blinded by nostalgia or the notion that a remake should be very similar to the original. They should consider if the changes might have good reasons. Kudos to Bloober Team for their ability to be creative while understanding the source material. For me, the remake did this scene better than the original.
I absolutely love Maria. First playthrough, I wanted to leave with her, but I didn't know that meant requirements. I'm doing it again. Making sure to protect Maria and check on her every time I can. I make sure to heal myself as much as possible. First playthrough, I didn't complain cause I left with Laura.
I still haven't played the remake but I'd say this scene was handled surprisingly well. Maria's casting is far better than I initially thought.
I'm getting similar feelings to the Remake Maria as I did with Lady Dimitrescu, except she doesn't stalk you. I'm surprised the Remake Maria did not go that viral, or maybe she did.
@Sean36745able One was almost 8 feet dude.
The problem is this is a remake and she is always compared to the original. The Number 1 complaint is her outfit which people think is “censored”. Her characterization is also a little different. I think the Remake tried to correct some things and added more depth to the characters. She’s a ghostly being after all and it’s more clearly portrayed here. The problem with most fans is they expect any remake to be very faithful to the original. They don’t consider if the changes might have good reasons.
@@Jed-Rix Probably having a DEI known company mentioned in the credits doesn't help.
@@BrunoRafaBR For a fandom that loves talking about things being taken on their own merits, they sure do bring up outside factors like this a lot.
@Jed-Rix Good point, the remade Maria is always compared to original, when the remade Maria has the same vibe as Lady Dimitrescu. And I just found out recently that Maria does Stalk James, but not I'm the same way as Lady Dimitrescu does to the player(Gameplay wise)
Incredible game so far! Easily a 9/10.
Title makes it sounds like Maria was looking for James after coming to Rosewater Park
Music is so good. Love Salome too!
0:18 I like this detail. There’s blurriness as James walks toward Maria. Makes you feel as if James is hallucinating as he sees her. There are some fan theories that only James can see Maria or that she could be a real person but James sees Mary’s face in her.
@@Jed-Rix only James can see Maria, she is never seen in-shot with another person, she’s a manifestation of the town.
The music slaps !!!
Amazing decision to elevate the violin like that compared to the original. It hits the perfect nerve between sadness and romance.

SH2 remake and LAST OF US THE BEST GAMES IN 21 century !!!!!!❤❤❤
SH2 but not the last of us
ok we lost the only time that we get to see James's smile and we lost the sexy coquette Maria, but still good 7/10
Love the remake. Hate her jacket 😣
I think her outfit makes more sense. Silent Hill is a cold place. I don’t see how anyone would wear skimpy clothes like her original one. Think of it like how Ada Wong’s outfit got redesigned in RE4 Remake. It just fits the setting. I actually like this more. The seductiveness is definitely still there. It looks more sophisticated and seductive at the same time.
bro i know damn well james was rock hard in this scene.
Of course he was, he absolutely LOVES transwomen.
why her head is so big
Thanks God, I'm not the only one.
The funny part is that they've actually toned it down for the release version and she was much more of a slabhead initially😂
There is a mod to make it look like a woman.

Actual name is "Beneath the Null Moon"
This ironically feels far inferior to the original.
Maria had an allure about her in the original, able to capture James' attention and draw him in. She also had a tendency to snap quickly when she wasn't getting her way.
James and Maria in this don't feel like great characters here. Maria isn't the implied succubus that Silent Hill constructs to torment James about how selfish he could be, i.e. wanting his wife to be sexy and promiscuous (like Mary dialled to 11), only to throw it in his face when he doesn't fulfil his duties by having Mary's worse traits of snapping but made far worse.
Maria in this scene is not oozing with personality, she feels dainty, like a flower with only speckles of promiscuity. She was meant to be a far more powerful character.
James isn't even showing his perverted nature, which was the original point of Pyramid Head and the enemies in the original: twisted and sexual monsters to (exaggeratedly so) show James' proclivity to promiscuity.
If this is the direction of remakes, then I'll just stick to originals, janky and weird as they may be, the original vision of the developers was actually there
Something's off about it all. The original still feels surreal and dreamlike, here it seems they're reading a script before a play
I have to say I disagree, I think James comes across way more vulnerable in the remake and emotionally defeated, he also finds Maria's presence unsettling and struggles with how to react to her behaviour and advances. He's attracted to her but he knows that she’s not Mary… Yet he feels tormented by how alike she is and knows that he shouldn’t entertain such a thought because, fundamentally, he is loyal to his wife and wants “her”. The way he looks out over the lake with his mouth open and his stilted dialogue really sold just how surreal his situation was and how badly he was struggling to get his head around it all.
In the original James was much quicker to accept her and almost playful in his dialogue with her. It only took him a few minutes to completely accept Maria and although her behaviour was a bit odd, she wasn’t quite as “sinister” as Maria comes across in this scene, the way she almost taunts James and gets off on his uncomfortable feelings.
Are you actually kidding???
I agree, Maria's acting is extremely bad. She is expressionless, not sensual, and above all, she's lost the playful side that used to make her charming.
I think the absolute opposite, original feels like they're reading a script IMO. This is a common thing when playing old games, same for original resident evil for example.
@@Idiale yeah Maria was soooo horrible in the remake i was very frustrated playing it. Gives me the motivation to punch my monitor and buy another one just to punch it all over again
Original music was better not sure why Yamioka decided to revise this one.
There’s buildup at the beginning to match the scene. There’s also added female vocals which I think is perfect. What’s not to love about it?
@@Jed-Rix what's not to hate about it?
The original one sounded too quiet and odd to be honest. I prefer this one, more action, louder, and fits her more.
@@CHRISMED2 hate without reason

Why her voice so Dead what a bad voice acting in original game it was so Goooood

the original is not even that good, sounds unnatural and cheap
Sorry but I can’t take you seriously. The original Maria sounded too artificial in her delivery to me. This one strikes the right balance between being seductive but also somewhat sinister and uncanny.
they completely messed up this cutscene man
They messed up Maria's character all together. The Jail Cell scene is even worse.
It lacks the intensity of the original game
