Listen I know Mike was an asshole for what he did to Hannah. BUT! He is an absolute Unit when it came to staying alive and killing those wendigos. Man chopped off his own fingers, got caught in an explosion, killed like 8 of those monsters and did it all in a single night.
It always irked me that Josh got left behind and died in the original when all of his asshole friends, save for Sam, did that prank that left resulted in the sisters dying.

everyone keep writing about how happy they're that now we can save josh, but this scene doesn't really look like a saving scene to me. he stayed there alone. god knows what happened to him there. he's more mentally unstable than ever, there are still vendigos out there. and the latter scene with sam seems more like just her hallucinations & the trauma result. it still seems to me that we didn't save josh at all. seems more like it was just a scene in between his timing before he turned into wendigo, like it was in the original game

I'm happy Josh can now be saved. Although there was a poetic tragedy to his ending, I always felt so bad for his character and the fact he couldn't ever find redemption or survive without basically a nightmarish outcome. But also that Sam ending. WHAT?! Sam was my favourite. I need to know what's going on! It doesn't link concretely to any of the game lore, that I can think of. I can only hope it's the hint we'll get a sequel and Sam will be in it! I would love that! Especially as Hayden Panettiere has had a pretty rough time and hasn't been in much for a while... It also does make sense that Sam's pretty traumatised by what happened. But if a character as level-headed as her isn't coping, even with Josh surviving, then I can't imagine the other characters doing so well. I guess it could be argued that Sam would've avoided seeking real help and instead coped (unhealthily) by obsessing over what happened.

If theyre working on a sequel (cause otherwise why the random bonus scene with sam) It would be soo interesting to see them go into the direction of resolving the trauma from the events of Until dawn, cause one of the reasons why its so interesting to watch the ending interviews for me is it really makes you curious what would happen to them after the events, compared to most games/ shows where its like "whew it ended good for them"
For all the people who probably haven't tought about why Sam has that mark on her arm at the end ...well do you rememember Until Dawn before the Remake existed. Well, at the end techincally she killed them at the end when she turned off the light and the whole house burned killing the remaining wendigos ,there was a spirit in the air and if you remember what they said ,after you kill a wendigo and wendigo can really and only get killed by fire ,they release a curse that will haunt you forever ,i could be wrong but even tho i played that game years ago i was a big big fan of it and i remember very well what was the game about and the story for playing a lot and that's what came in my mind when i saw that mark with blood on Sam ,she was the last one leaving the house and killing all the Wendigo inside ,it showed the curse right after but not in the Remake and some people who never played the first game or don't remember about it there it is . Im 99% sure that's the reason ,but i could be wrong
It's more like after a wendigo dies it's spirit gets unleashed and ready to possess a new victim but can only do so if the victim commits an act of cannibalism and it has to be on the mountain so the mark probably has nothing to do with the wendigo spirit and it's most likely sam harming herself or so kind of other thing related to a possible sequel
Well, since everyone like "damn that was terrible" and only Sam was serious af, it is possible she start taking pills to cure her mind going off and her self-not-trating-right tendeicies. Maybe even meet the Doc like Josh

@EyeofZaun but that probably isn't the reason ,maybe she became paranoic and started taking pills and now seeing things...who knows at this point but i found this game really cool for sure
I'm so glad this ending exists. Josh really did NOT deserve the fate he got when you come to the realisation that he is *genuinely* mentally ill and all the "help" he got from the system just made him worse. The setup for a potential sequel is interesting too!
I thought he got the way he was because he stopped going to the doctor and taking his medication. I swear there was a text on his phone or a letter you could find of the doctor reaching out to him asking him about continuing the appointments or asking about his medication.
Finally they did an ending with Josh still alive at the end of the game. It was so depressing getting the "everyone is alive" achievment while realizing that Josh either dies or turns into a wendigo (which he also dies because he lost his humanity). Now he really can be safed and found by the police officers because you see a flashlight at the beginning of his end scene.
Mental illness is hard if given the chance I would have saved him besides when I f***** up mine that was his idea of a joke nobody got killed so honestly he didn't deserve his fate.
The doctor wasnt helping him. When you go to the psychos lair and see how many times hes gone to therapy and paid so much money and hes still suffering its clear nothing is working @4rinstr_
I'm so happy about this, it never made sense to me that Josh was the only character we couldn't save when, in my opinion, he was the one that deserved the most. He lost EVERYTHING and he clearly has untreated mental problems, I don't blame him at all for the prank, he had no idea his friends would actually get hurt.... I'm so happy omg, I've waited YEARS for this new ending for the character 🥹
He did drug them, knock them out with violence and psychologically torture chris of all people so i’d say thats still pretty wrong regardless, but i agree he should have been saveable
Josh is a weird character. He obviously did some horrible things, but he was also all different kinds of broken and disturbed. I also want to say that his targets deserved it, but he ended up traumatizing the people who had the _least_ to do with with his sisters' disappearance. At the same time, these people also showed virtually no remorse over it until pushed. You can get the bits and pieces of what Josh's arc was supposed to be, but the writing itself messes him up.
@@mavibaso what he did was obviously wrong, but it never meant to be that serious... He clearly was in the middle of a schizophrenia breakdown and grieving the loss of his sisters and his friends never even brothered to say sorry, the prank was extreme but I understand him.
@@crypto66 @@crypto66 I think Chris and Sam got worse than the others because Josh expected better from them, even if they didn't had anything to do with the prank, Sam knew what was happening and she did very little to stop it and Chris was too drunk to do anything, the same as Josh (which is very clear he also blames himself a lot), so I think in his head the "betrayal" was worse than what the others did. Chris was his best friend and Sam is clearly the girl he has feelings for and also his sisters's best friend, in his head they should've done better. Himself included.
@@nanataviajando The problem there is it wasn't really shown; when he revealed himself to them, he just talked about letting them have a taste of the same humilliation "they" did to his sister even though "they" didn't do it. Just to be clear; I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying the writing is inconsistent. The game could've given him lines hinting at this percieved betrayal or that he had something different planned for the others, but I guess it just forgot about that. Honestly, the whole Saw thing seemed more about drawing out the idea of a slasher red herring and Josh's characterization was merely secondary.
I know this ending hints more towards a sequel, but I would’ve massively preferred a prequel. The lore with the miners and the sanitarium was so interesting, it’d be cool to play in that time
17:21 i'm not sure if this is just the lightning on his hair but, people after facing huge amounts of stress (more commonly seen in soldiers with ptsd) tend to look older and sometimes even create gray hair (although the game is clearly exaggerating here). Again, not sure if it's just the lightning being weird but that's a nice touch if intentional. Ah dang it, turns out it was indeed the lighting
Pour être précis les cheveux ne deviennent pas gris ou blancs. Les cheveux colorés tombent sous le coup du stress et il ne reste que les cheveux blancs.
It's lighting, Josh is only 20, no matter the PTSD; it's insanely rare to have Grey hair at that age, if anything it's far more common for young Adults to have receding hairlines due to stress
I know people are glad that we can save Josh now, and I understand it because he definitely didn't deserve what he got. But I also feel like thematically, it makes sense for us to end the game feeling the guilt of not being able to help everyone. It puts the player in the same headspace as the characters, because even if they made it out, they'll never be the same and they'll never be able to stop thinking about the things they could've done differently to make it all better, just like the player tries to think of ways we could've helped everyone out alive
Yeah, I get why people feel like mental illness was being demonized, but honestly, as a video game character, not a person, I think Josh's fate being sealed was important symbolically? The butterfly-effect of events that happen from that one prank ends up ruining all of their lives (to one degree or another), but it's Josh and his sisters who die every time. They are the ones who are cursed. And in some ways, it's the "family curse," so to speak, inherited from their family that unethically seized the land in the first place? In some less-Hollywood-ized examples of indigenous American lore, these sorts of spirits or monsters are not created specifically by cannibalism, but by acts of horrific inhumanity. So to have this "curse" that they've inherited from their parents for their transgressions, plus a group of friends that lets them down, plus a failing support system, PLUS a "player" not being able to save them... I dunno. I like black holes in the butterfly effect web, where nothing you do can fix it. These events have been set in motion before the characters or player even arrive.
Josh getting rescued brings me with so much joy because he’s the first character I’ve seen who I related to on an extreme level! But at the cost of Sam’s survival meaning now she’s the one with a sad ending 😩
The wendigos in the ps4 version sounded way more scarier and ferocious than the ps5 version and glad to see they changed the fate of Josh either being killed by the wendigo or becoming the wendigo and kept him alive but either way the game is still phenomenal hopefully they make a remake of this
This part 5:08 when josh gets caught. How the hell is mike still alive there? I thought the creature pulled him under the water like he shouldn't have been able to get away from that period.
People saying this ending automatically means we'll get a sequel have never seen the ending of a typical horror movie. **Edit: for those unaware, what I mean is that it's quite common to end a horror movie on a cliffhanger or leave it "open" but never gets a sequel. That's part of the horror aspect. You think the main protagonist(s) won/fixed things/escaped, only to learn the cycle will repeat itself and it's never really over.
@@BURNTOASTSR Same. Especially in the final lodge scene, with everyone standing still and the wendigo on the chandelier, the old music made things much more intense. The new one doesn't do it justice
So I have seen movies make this mistake before. The Wendigo is a possessing spirit, not a mark or a disease. Bites don't pass it and the only way to be cursed by it is by isolation and cannibalism. Sam has done neither of these and a mark, unless it's a sort of warning, wouldn't really make sense.
So my logic was when Sam killed all the wendigo in the end she was the last one to leave the cabin so the wendigo automatically was attached to her. Her bedroom was also years later. So I assume she’s been isolated like Josh because we see shes been taking a lot of pills also like Josh and it looks like she hasn’t been taking them lately. I think it’s implying at some point in those years she got possessed we don’t know how or why but I think that’s what they’re hinting at.
so the doctor wasn't just a hallucination from josh? i was hoping that he was also the narrator from the dark pictures but they're different actors, unless he's supposed to b like an eldritch horror and just takes a different form every time we see him
Yes he is a hallucination, he is his real doctor but he's not really there talking to him. N when hes talking at the end thats still just josh hallucinating his voice
No one here is explaining it well :T Dr. Hill IS REAL. If in the chase with Sam, we manage to escape successfully without Josh catching us, we can go to Josh's workshop where we find the evidence of his psychological analysis and his phone, where the last thing we can see is his conversation with Dr. Hill, where he asks him to stop the joke and go see him but Josh refuses. Due to Josh's schizophrenia, he has an altered concept of him where he believes that he is always judging him instead of helping him. Added to the fact that every time we go to see him, Josh's mental state is clear depending on how the room looks.
Are they planning a sequel and that’s why they made that bonus scene with Sam or just to show that she’s suicidal now? Seems pretty weird decision to include it now if there is no follow up
Suicidal? Thats not exactly what I took from that scene tbh. I though it was more of a Sam's also turning into a wendigo kinda thing, idk why everyone is assuming Josh isn't a Wendigo in this ending, the voice might just be a nod to Sam ending with the same fate as him. For some reason idk, haven't played this version. Edit: Nvm, I completely forgot about the cannibalism thing.
@@spicynips8466 Well he's not nor is she. you know. something i just noticed. one of the really scary parts of the monstor lore is that their corrupted souls dont die right? like, you kill one, it just finds another body to inhabit. but here, only ONE soul left the burning building. dispite there being like 4 or 5 of those things in there that died. And only ONE of those things died for sure form the explosion. the rest (possibly even one of the last two right there at the very end before the cabin went boom) were killed by another of their own kind. maybe thats the weakness. you have to get them to kill eachother (or themselves).
The lore explains that the makkapitew (the alpha, most powerful wendigo) is the one who can move from one body to another and possess them after eating a human. That is also why we saw Handigo go after the other wendigos, they are petty competition and she doesn’t want them around and can easily take them out. She never went after them in the Sanatorium because she didn’t need to, they were locked up but Mike accidentally freed them. The rest of them simply become regular wendigos after eating another human because of the curse of the mountain and probably from being in proximity to the Makkapitew. those souls don’t transfer bodies so that’s why we only saw one leave the lodge.
@@realahcrewExcept Mike killed a wendigo when he met up with Sam, which had one of those spirit/curse things come out. It's definitely not just the Makkapitew.
they can only inhabit the body of someone who has committed cannibalism. its almost like a metaphor for prions which can be contracted by such behavior, it sits for a while until the right circusmtances. the reason josh goes wendigo last game is cause of hunger and nearly starving.

@EyeofZaun exactly :)

It was so depressing getting the "everyone is alive" achievment while realizing that Josh either dies or turns into a wendigo (which he also dies because he lost his humanity). Now he really can be safed and found by the police officers because you see a flashlight at the beginning of his end scene.

The lore with the miners and the sanitarium was so interesting, it’d be cool to play in that time
There's a game that I think it's like an official prequel where they kinda show this part of the story. It's called The Inpatient.
I think it is just lighting being weird and it might get fixed eventually
Pour être précis les cheveux ne deviennent pas gris ou blancs. Les cheveux colorés tombent sous le coup du stress et il ne reste que les cheveux blancs.
The lighting in this game is exceptionally worse than the original so it’s definitely the lighting.
It's lighting, Josh is only 20, no matter the PTSD; it's insanely rare to have Grey hair at that age, if anything it's far more common for young Adults to have receding hairlines due to stress
Exactly man Josh was Snafu from The Pacific (2010) he was a marine.

See now they actually cooked having Josh actually be saved instead of him just turning into a wendigo in the original that's cool i won't lie
I am so glad that Josh gets to be saved/have a better ending. He was demonized so badly for having schizophrenia/schizoaffective.
I was really stoked to play this on PC since I never had the chance to before. But seeing how they replaced most of the sounds and music and rushed the animations and cutscenes makes me not want to play this. I hope someone mods the original soundtrack back in.
I too was ready to buy it, but due to OST downgrade I gave it a great pass.
This is so cool. I want to see a sequel about Sam and Josh in a new adventure. Sam trying to heal from her mark and Josh getting his redemption. Along with some new interesting characters.
0:58 😂 "Full Mental Jacket" is STILL as funny as it was the first time. This game is such genre trope gold i am actually considering buying it 🎉😂
Love watching different game plays. So much dialogue and outcomes I haven’t seen yet
I never thought this game could look even better😂 jess looks so real at the end credits
Now we need a remake of the remake where you can save Beth and Hannah.
Then a remake of the remake remake where we can save Jack.
Would be amazing
Dawg, if you can save Beth and Hannah then what’s the point of the game
@@marzox3384 exactly.
@@marzox3384 just a secret quick end that you unlock after finishing the game !
Or if you let Hannah go Beth survives and wants to get revenge. Hannah won’t turn to a wendigo because she didn’t eat Beth so she’ll just starve
you know. something i just noticed. one of the really scary parts of the monstor lore is that their corrupted souls dont die right?
like, you kill one, it just finds another body to inhabit.
but here, only ONE soul left the burning building. dispite there being like 4 or 5 of those things in there that died.
@@realahcrew there is a lot of questions about handigo's behavior when fighting the other wendigos. the wendigos don't attack each other usually. she deliberately targeted them one by one.
@@realahcrew oh. well TYVM
So the main difference is that josh is no longer a wendigo got it
Ya now he can me saved
Nope, you need to go through specific steps to get this ending.
@@MrVideoFreak what are the steps?
@@GageTheSpartan not a clue, I think you need to find a few things and make certain choices. That's all I know
@@GageTheSpartan as josh, choose "they hurt me" and "im so sorry" and as sam find hannah's diary in the mines
So cool to see a new ending for Josh and a hint at a possible sequel with Sam! Exciting!
Not gonna lie, the Wendigo's scream was faaarr better before
THANKS TO THE DEVELOPERS FOR IMPLEMENTING THIS OPTION IN THE REMAKE. I was very discouraged when I found out that in the original game there was no way to save Josh. I am relieved to know that in this remake they took the time to design the route. Thank you very much.
I’m sorry I know she’s terrible but I LOVE Emily. Not because I think she’s misunderstood or anything like that but she’s so horrible she’s hilarious and so entertaining to watch. Cartoonishly catty and a total narc… she’s great. I love that she says “freakin” in various voice lines.
With Josh being my favorite I’m so happy!
Didn't even know that we got a Remake
It's more of a remaster with a few added scenes.
I'm so glad Josh can survive.
SAM AND MIKE HOLDING HANDS AT THE ENDING??? I'M FED
i like how they redid the totems but why is the music like that
Holy shit! That ending is so interesting. If that new ending indicates a sequel, then hell yes I'm on board.
It’s been how many years and we finally getting a sequel?
Let’s gooo
9 years and 2 months I believe. But I never played it until February 2018. Platniumed it on October 2018
When I watched through your whole playthrough, I was so disappointed that you didn't get the new ending. Thank you for going back and saving Josh
why is nobody talking about the sam scene at the end wtf
a possible sequel 🥰
Thank goodness you can finally save Josh. He didn't deserve to die and it always pissed me off he was the only character you couldn't save. Even his 'good' ending wasn't good, he turns into a wendigo. I thought if you can save Emily then why not Josh so I'm glad they listened to feedback and added the option.
Being able to save josh is a 1000 iq move 💯
How?
Seriously, please explain how.
Josh went through so much with his sisters dying. That must have been so traumatic for him. Considering they pranked his sisters; he probably blamed them for their deaths. Maybe he didn't mean to hurt them, but he didn't even know about the wendigos and the curse of the mountain. Josh deserves to be saved.
Why is nobody talking about that final scene with Sam?
Josh is better.
Who else genuinely likes until dawn. Cause I do. Its a horror/skill game to help others make it out alive and I love that they remade it.
It feels kinda weird to save Josh now
What does the mark on Sam mean i don’t remember that
@@Bedumzzza new one..I just hope Sam not turning wendigo or any monsters
@@Cookies_Aqua That would be stupid af
@@Bedumzzz Thats new, she never had a mark in the original version. And that voice sounded like the therapist
@@Cookies_Aquaif I remember correctly, to turn into one, you had to eat humans. That's what Hannah did to survive when she fell.
There will never be an ending that is as good as this. It was so unexpected and just couldn’t expect anything better
Is it me or the framerate seems... off? As if animations are locked in 30 frames when the game is running at 60? Ugh, don't know how else to describe it
Ps5 isn’t powerful enough apparently, they’re already setting up games for the ps5 pro
@@Asgnov99lmao your funny if your think the ps5 pro is any better
Default without a disc drive lol 😂
@@Asgnov99 No just the animations are outdated and haven't been retouched so they still look like 9 year old animations
@@Gamer-r9hThey barely touched up on the animations. Seems they were more focused on the character models, I knew most people wouldn't be satisfied with this remake no matter what they focused the most on from the way the majority of people nitpicked every single trailer and complained about the character models which clearly weren't even done yet and it was just to keep us waiting and patient before the finished product.
0:58 Full mental jacket 🔥🔥🔥
Bravo Vince
My biggest thing was not being able to save Josh, so I am super happy you can save him now.
Me too
12:16 I really like this part, I think more horror games should use this "don't move" thing, it's amazing
5:30 I'm sorry but why does it look like Josh has timy legs here 😂
Lmao 🤣 I saw that! Like whyyyyyy is that a thing?😆
Fr!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
This makes me so happy you can actually save Josh!
Im not trying to be negative but at 1:10 when she talking, does it seem off with her emotion in her face talking about how traumatizing that is. Along with her talking through her teeth?
I think it’s just the motion capture being clunky
@@Charon510 thank you i thought it was same thing. I just wanted to confirm i wasnt crazy.
This is the most needed remake! Josh deserves to survive, yes he is a f up soab from the trauma he had but because of that he deserves better.
why do remakes somehow always make the characters have less emotive expressions?
I thought the original also kinda had this problem. But I had assumed if they were gonna remaster the game, the expressions would’ve gotten better.
Game company probably say that graphics are hard to capture human expressions with modern techology. Despite older games managing to do so with technical limitations without needing slapping additional 10 dollars price tag on a original game.
I really love the facial animations in this game and always have, especially the original. It doesn't really compare to their other games.
Can someone explain Sam's bleeding arm? And was the voice that called her Josh or the therapist?
UNTIL DAWN HAD A REMAKE??? Why did I not know this?? OMG I'm super excited to see this!
