    Thanks! Your video is the only one I've found that goes step by step explaining exhaustively. I figured out my screwdriver wasn't quite long enough so I purchased a new one and the install went swimmingly!

    You don't need to take out the rod. You can gently pry the rod up with a pair of pliers or something and the old mag release will just slide right out. You can then put the new one in, let go with the pliers, and then hook the rod backwhere it was before you started. Great informative video regardless, thanks!

    The last couple Glock Armorer courses I went to suggested using needle nose pliers to just pull the mag catch spring (straight rod) straight up & out. After you use a small flathead to pop the rod out of the mag catch detent. This is way easier. To reinstall, hold mag catch in place, push rod down in its hole all the way, then use the flat tip driver to slide the rod back in place in the catch. No chewing up your gun. I can swap these in about 2mins with no damage & not over bending that rod.

    I feel bad for all the people that are following the second step and taking out the rod. It's not necessary to do that, just take the flat head and bend it outwards while putting in the new release..

      I've got an even easier tool... One of those 6in1 screw drivers... take out the small sized screw end and use the tube of the holder to slide over rod spring and push/pull out of the way of the catch.

    If you don’t want to go invest in a new tool, you can also use a long corkscrew to scoop the spring out.
    The shield mag release has a much easier indentation to get the spring back into.
    Only weird part is that the shield release doesn’t do so great releasing stock Glock mags.

    I'm not sure if I'm using the wrong tools or misunderstood a step. But all I managed to do was scratch the inside of the magazine well to the point I became concerned and stopped. I tried a small flathead screw driver, I tried a dental pick, each time it would just fly off and scratch something. I'll just bite the bullet and take it too an armorer....

    I have to admit, at first I was wary of doing this. Especially since now where I live the glock 43x is like a winning lottery ticket, the big box sporting goods and camping/hunting stores have the 43x on their website but no one has it in the store and it's up to 2-4 weeks for delivery. I had an offer by a woman for $850 if I'd sell her the 1 in my holster, I declined. I purchased the s15 combo pack which came with 3 s15 magazines and 1 +5 spring and base plate and upon reading the suggestions, they reccomended changing out the mag release with their metal 1, it's not a must but for better results and not wearing the plastic 1 out I did. I will field strip my guns but I'd rather not mess with the trigger and firing pin mechanisms, however I do have the harbor freight pick set and watching this video made it super simple and I didn't leave 1 scratch or chip getting the spring out of its seat, and putting it back was super easy and simple since getting the pressure off the spring is the most difficult part, if you're like me and dont want to knick it or scratch it up that's all I could think about. Thank you for the video that caters to us laymen who aren't very mechanically inclined or patient. Task took around 5 minutes after watching this and that's being super careful to not mess it up. Now my 43x has new mag release, 4 s15 magazines in total and 2 of them have the +5 extension, I carry in a vertical shoulder harness with 2 extra magazines totaling 56 rounds when I walk out the door. I will be getting 2 more +5 extensions since everything was so simple to install. Those who knock the 43x because other brands have similar sized compacts that hold 12, with shield arms innovations the 43x is capable of carrying a lot of backup power now with glock reliability and peace of mind that comes with them. I have the 43 also and several other compacts but the 43x with these upgrades and efficiency of possible modifications is my go to carry now. Great products from both glock and shield arms, in which I have no affiliation other than just being a satisfied customer.

    Like others have said, go to Harbor Freight and get their $2 mini pick set, and push the release from the back side as your are prying the pin. Make sure to press the hook on the end of the pick under the pin and it should pop out. Also, you can leave the pin in and just slide the new release in while prying the pin up. Super easy to push the pin back in place once it’s in.

    Great Video, i followed step by step by step and I was able to actually do the opposite of what you are doing here. Great video and thanks again!!

    • @tomcurran8470
      @tomcurran8470 7 місяців тому

      After looking for installation vids, I came across lots of reputable vids that warn about and demonstrate FTF issues, especially with hollow point/defense ammo. This occurs with Gen1, 2, and 3 mags. It is not the mag release causing this. Shield has told people it is the loose tolerances of their particular gun. I'm returning the S15 set-up without installing it. Better to have an 11 shot that works 100%.

    First time ever having done any gun work myself, after figuring out why my slide wouldn't release (TIP: depress trigger) i literally had the old release out and the new one in/slide installed complete in a minute and a half, very easy. (also having a little hook tool does really help to unseat that rod).

      Yeah once you change the mag release it is best to use the steel mags as the polymer mags tend to stick and will eventually wear out the grove on them although it would take some time to do so.

    • @HammerIIHammer
      @HammerIIHammer  2 роки тому +3

      True but if you don’t change it then you can’t use the S15 mags as it will damage the factory mag release. I plan on just using the s15 mags now as they have 15 rd capacity instead. But will have the 10 rd factory mags around as backups.

    • @HammerIIHammer
      @HammerIIHammer  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah the metal magazine on the factory plastic mag release will work if you are not doing a lot of shooting with it you are correct. If you do a lot of shooting however the mag rocking back and forth slightly and changing mags by engaging/disengaging the mag release will wear out the plastic. Some people I’m sure won’t change it and that’s fine, but since it is my carry I don’t want to leave it to chance when the malfunction will happen. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Good Job... thanks for sharing - New Subscriber:
    The Glock OEM mag release will work with the S15 mags but, metal mags working against a plastic mag release will 'eventually' cause the the plastic mag release to fail. It just makes sense to dump the plastic for metal with your first order of S15 mags and never have to think about it again (IMHO). All my mags will be S15's from here on out and the two OEM mags being held back for "SHTF, Alamo Last Stand Do Or Die" duty anyway. - I run and EDC a (black) Glock 48 as well.
