GOD I love Squirrelflight. Anyways have this short lil animatic I made :-)))
If you're confused, here's an explanation. This animatic is jumping between times a lot so I get it's not completely comprehensive lol
(DON'T take a shot every time I say Squilf you will DIE)
Basically:
Starts with Squilf who just found out/realised Leaf was staying behind, left in Starclan while she herself was to live on. They hug and say goodbye and we see a brief flashback of Squirrelpaw just about to start her journey, excited, with a less-excited Leafpaw staying in Thunderclan (which mirrors pretty well with what's happening "now", because Leaf is once more staying while Squilf is leaving lol). They say their final goodbyes and Squilf wakes back up and re-enters the living world, where she's alone and injured while Leafpool is, as you might have guessed, dead.
Squilf screams at the sky (taking no special place in the timeline lol, idk when that happens or if she just imagines screaming at the sky) and we see flashbacks of her raising Lion, Jay, Holly and then Alder and Spark.
A bit later on (but we're still in a flashback so to speak) she's looking out over the clan when "Bramblestar" throws her down from the high ledge before she's exiled.
Flash back in time again, we see the fire scene where Squilf reveals the three are adopted. After this, her kits reject her. She takes comfort from Leafpool, then later finds Ashfur dead. Holly reveals the secret at the gathering and runs away but is "killed" by a rock-fall in the tunnels. Bramblestar yells at Squilf for keeping the secret from him.
Two very short flashbacks of 1, Squilf standing up for Moonlight to Bramblestar and 2, the rockslide about to fall on Leaf and Squilf.
Back in Starclan, Squilf is "judged" by the Starclan cats as she walks through them. She finds Leafpool yelling at one of them because.... they encouraged her to "follow her heart" and now they're having a fucking trial.... that's not cool lol, but anyways her screaming is interrupted as they see Squilf. The Starclan cat reveals one of them can live but the other can't, and while Squilf if horrified, Leaf immediately resigns to her fate because she's willing to die for her sister - Squirrelflight has already done so much for her, it's her turn to return the favour.
Flash through the entire animatic so far (would have rearranged so everything was in chronological order but I'm too lazy lol) before pausing at the two of them hugging as they say goodbye and yada yada Squilf waking up, Leaf is dead. Last frame is Squirrelflight being found by the other cats, the ones shown being Jayfeather and Alderheart.

I animate/draw using procreate and edit using final cut pro. My frame rate is 6 or 12, but I tend to speed it up in editing.

I disagree with Mapleshade. She isn’t strong nor an example. She’s an emotional, cold hearted killer. Her misery was caused by her own actions
This really just shows the crazy and sad life that Squilf has lived through. She's been through so much, and it almost seems without any good rewards unfortunately. Her highlights being the beginning of New Prophecy, and her children, least from my memory. She deserves so much more. Amazing video, you really captured the pain and sadness she's been through, and I LOVED seeing Leafpool yelling at the starclan cat!

This song fits her so horrifyingly well. Squilf was mistreated throughout the series by the characters,authors and fandom and to see all this content that appreciates Squilf and says "yeah what happened to her was fucked up" makes me happy

SHE DOES OMFG- Bramble is such a horrible mate to me, he is literally so mean to her and she deserves better and to be called SQUIRRELSTAR!
this was so beautiful! squirrelflight's life has been an uphill battle, something that isn't common for the children of leaders. she never gets to fully enjoy anything given to her and even in comparison with her sister, squirrelflight always gets the short end of the stick.
Reading this I compared her life to Silverstreams. Your right her life is such a battle compared to Silver she got it easy as a warrior in general
@@milks-thoughts i think most she-cats in the books get it easy. now, the main characters can, from time to time, have pretty difficult lives, but it is usually the tom cats with the larger struggles and apparent closure. silverstream had a pretty simple and nice life, even through her once in a lifetime romance. the only issue or struggle she faced was her death, but, even then, both of her kits survived and lived decent lives. i'd make the same argument for many different she-cats (excluding maybe violetshine, twigbranch, and bristlefrost because i haven't read those new books). however all of that, squirrelflight has been given the short end of the narrative stick from the first introduction. i remember rereading the first moment we see her in midnight from bramblestar's point of view and how it seemed the authors just didn't like it. this didn't lighten up as we continued to see bramblestar's begrudging opinion of her throughout the whole journey and then some. even if it does lighten up or change, that original opinion is still very heavy. being the daughter of the leader and one of the most well respected she-cats in the clan doesn't give squirrelflight much easiness. anyways, i could go on about this for hours and would rather not talk everybody's ears off.

What pisses me off the most about the book is how many times Squirrelflight suffers from the actions of other people.
Leafpool dumps her responsibility (one that she most likely KNEW would happen) onto her sis, and didn’t suffer half as much as Squilf did.
Ashfur thought he was entitled to Squirrelflight and had the right to own her. And when he realized he doesn’t, he got emotional about it FOR YEARS and took his anger out on her.. and yet, people think Squirrelflight was in the wrong??
Starclan pressures and lies to squilf to make her take leaf’s kits, but when she finally does (after refusing several times) tHEY PUT HER ON FRICKEN TRIAL???? She did what they wanted her to do! So why punish her?!
And finally Bramblestar… he’s just a jerk. No other explanations..… Squirrelflight deserves some peace cuz it seems like she gets none of it
I want justice for Squilf in the last book/next series Damnit!!
Man Erin needs to make a new character that will be friends with Squirrel and later become her mate and treat her like the queen she is. And finally give her some peace and quiet.

Stuff like this, that essentially highlight all the wrongdoings of Starclan, the folk that are *supposed* to be good, and help guide the living to the best outcomes, helps fuel a very odd headcanon/interpretation I have... That Starclan is filled with more morally gray characters than the actual good folk, and so only want to torment the living. Maybe to satisfy a suffering they never got over in their life? But either way, purposely messing up people's lives for absolutely no reason other than entertainment. And sadly, Squilf is another victim of bullying from her "gods". I just wish papa Firestar would do something up there!
It would have been amazing if Firestar barged into the trial like WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY INNOCENT DAUGHTERS and then granted them their get out of jail card

oh my god. when it got to ‘well well look who’s inside again’ I got actual freaking chills. man I love squilf, I just want her to live in peace for the rest of her life, she deserves it more than anyone right now.
"You're really joking at a time like this?" I think the "joke" thing really fits the adopted situation. I mean, I can Bramblestar going like: "That's a joke, right? Like, this bullsh*t must be a joke, yes?", before realizing it's true and lashing out.
Edit: I also realized that Squirrel's life is such a... joke. A very sad and bad one. She constantly suffers from the actions of others (a comment already pointed this out here) and has nothing good happening to her, at least without paying a harsh price for it (the adopted kits).

3. I like how when Leaf’Pool is yelling at a starclan cat that they smile evilly then tell the 2 sisters that only 1 shall live and the other shall join starclan as if it was a punishment. It really reflects how strict and mind changing starclan is!
I swear, I sometimes hate StarClan.
Honestly, as dumb as this might sound, I would rather find out that Ashfur manipulated the events of that "trial" from behind the scenes than find out that Starclan is like that normally. Otherwise.. Hopefully Squirrel gets out of there, she deserves so much better.
OK BUT I am kind of obsessed right now with the scene where Squilf wakes up next to Leafpools bloody and battered body because it’s something a lot of animators gloss over; leafpool decides to stay in starclan, but what a lot of animators and artists forget to remember is that it also means that she is DEAD. for good. The way you formatted it is such a harsh change back into reality that it’s genius, the wtrangely peaceful and tranquil way they look in the starclan shot and then BOOM you’re back in the real world and squilf is just laying there next to her dead sister. Also, just what a terrifying concept is that?? Like you’re saying goodbye to your sister and she looks the happiest you’ve ever seen her, and then you wake up and are presented with the fact that hey, that means she is literally dead and you have to bury her now. You did a really good job on this animatic!!
once tbc/tpons is over and starclan comes back I want firestar to be the one to kill bramblestar/ashfur. He saved both of them only for them to hurt and abuse his daughter. I know this man would bring sandstorm with too. He'd be PISSED.
Alternatively, I want Goldenflower to kill bramblestar and Ferncloud/Brindleface to kill ashfur. I wanna see their kin look at them in disgust. Goldenflower's would hit hardest bc she'd probably think he's become like his father.

Squilf has had such a devastating life, and she dese rves to have AT LEAST a MOUNT of respect from her clanmates and her ancestors. But none of them seem to care.
Honestly I haven't read the newer books yet, but I really want Squilf to run away to start something of her own or join the sisters, and just have her best life there being surrounded by people who respect her and treat her fairly.

this is absolutely wonderful oh my god i’m in awe of how well you were able to capture squirrelflight’s struggles and grief. she’s been treated like a punching bag for so long and to see her getting the recognition she so so so very much deserves makes me SO HAPPY!!! squilf is an intelligent, strong, and loving cat who has come such a long way and has sacrificed nearly everything she’s ever had for the sake of others and deserves the whole world dammit!!! the emotion that comes through this video is so astounding and i’ve never wanted to hug this little red kitty more

this is absolutely phenomenal, the emotion is so clear and I got chills watching this. the Starclan cats saying "well, well" is so dynamic and actually such a simple but unique take on the scene, I had to rewatch the scene multiple times to process just how lovely it looks. This is flawless, I'm so glad you spent time on this. Well done, as always!

It's funny, i'm currently reading the new prophecy books, and seeing how squilfs life is gonna go makes me feel like i'm her; some young teen, who seems like she's going to live her life as some hero alongside her sister, but suddenly seeing what the future holds.
(p.s, don't worry about me spoiling the books for myself; i saw flightfootwarrior's "took my by surprise" before i even knew what warriors was lol)

Tbh there's nothing wrong with traumatized protagonists (I love them and 90% of my many OCs are morally gray) but I wish warriors was equal in its treatment of male and female leads.

Years ago when I was reading warriors and squirrel started getting a bigger role, she very quickly became my favorite character. It’s been crazy seeing how much she’s gone through in her life

Man, Squirrelflight certainly did go through hell. After the truth was revealed, the only cat except Leafpool who bothered to come around to talking to her again not very long later was Lionblaze. Jayfeather outright refused to give her or Leafpool any time of day for moons, and Hollyleaf was kind of…absent…for most of the aftermath. Brambleclaw was, albeit rightfully, devastated by the news and completely cut ties with Squirrelflight. The wounds that were caused by the truth were so deep that Firestar couldn’t really do anything, and he was forced to stand by as his daughters suffered the cold shoulder from almost every single Clan cat. With quite literally only two cats by her side, who were just as caught up and hurt by the truth as she was, as well as had their own battles to overcome, Squirrelflight was about as alone as one could get.
Screw Bramblestar, though. When he was still Brambleclaw, his anger and frustration towards Squirrelflight was understandable. He should’ve known the truth from the beginning. But him as Bramblestar has become one of the single-worst written characters. His whole spiel was to not be Firestar 2.0, and he has been doing that far too well. That’s not to forget to mention his verbal abuse. Squirrelflight deserves a lot better. I don’t like the newer two arcs, but I definitely think they are trying to give Squirrelflight a better life.

This really cool! The "Well, well, look who's inside again" gave me chills! There's lots of comments about how it sums up Squirrelflight's suffering really well, and I couldn't agree more. Also, I like how you made Hollyleaf's tail!

1:02 is my favorite part for some reason but everything in this is so IAJANJAKANA. I see people underrating what she went through and how much it has affected her for the mere reason that they think she’s a bland character (speaking just from a conversation I had with someone not sure that this is true) because she just plays a part in fixing everyone else’s stuff when that’s the WHOLE POINT. She’s had so much pushed onto her and been mistreated so much.

Squirrelflight has always been my favorite since TNP and it's so sad to see how much she's been through and I really hope she becomes leader or becomes an elder in the new books and have a happy life then. (Screw Bramble, I hate that guy)

This is AMAZING!!! While I had to read about a few things in the description to be 100% what was depicted, most of the time, I could tell what was going on! The expressions of the characters and animation of the different pictures was amazing, and the text on screen OH THE TEXT ON SCREEN! Showed up at the right time in the right spot, loved it!

The only thing squirrel flight was really guilty of was being to accommodating to the cats around her and never really putting herself first.

whattt this is amazing?? squilf is definetely a huge hit or miss chara for me. her actions were genuinely awful a lot of the time whilst the other are also amazing. shes one of my favorite characters but personally ive always liked brambs better pfft... she did go through a lot and i sympathize her a lot. the scene where imp brambs threw squilf has always been one of my fav scenes lwk, im glad to see it incorporated into this hehe

Bro literally broke the Warrior coke for like 60% of his life. I know they think the others need to move on from him or whatever but nah, we need him now. He loved his kits, he would never let this happen even if he was strict with Squilf, he still loved her!
I’m so late to this but this just reminds me that Starclan literally told Squirrelflight that she was barren. How horrible, to just straight up lie to her, and then QUESTION if she deserves to even be in Starclan afterwards.
I love how (what I hope is) the writing team's mistake in forgetting Squilf was forced into accepting the babies makes her one of the most tragic characters. Punished for doing something she had no choice in.

Could someone explain how Squirrelfight and Leafpool trial went exactly ? I haven’t read it yet and I’m so confused cause everything I’ve seen anywhere just points it at being….. unreasonably unfair ? I literally cannot make sense of it ;-;
Like, every cat there broke basically the exact same codes yet Squirrel and Leaf get trials ? How do they have any argument to them not being allowed in, they’d really send /them/ to the dark forest?

I want Squirrel to become a ghost when she dies, I don’t want her to be surrounded by the same cats who ridiculed and tormented her because of a choice THEY MADE HER make. Becoming a ghost seems the only peaceful afterlife these days or she could get reincarnated but not as a ThunderClan cat but into a family that’ll give her the love she deserves 🤔
You know if Firestar doesn't take down Starclan, I bet Squirrelflight will.

This is so good 😊 honestly I feel bad for Squirrelflight, her life got worse when they were going back home to the Clans after the journey because she and Bramble we're arguing a lot, then Leafpool decided to have kits and let Squirrelflight take care of them until Hollyleaf told everyone at the gathering, which allowed Bramble to snap at her, then Brambles body being possessed by the spirit which made him evil and then everything went crazy and terrible at that point for Squirrelflight, she didn't deserve all of that 🥺
