Looks good to me. I would certainly pay that. Wife just got back from a Xmas dinner event with a ladies group. She's paid £23 for a 2 course meal and it was first class I gather. Turkey was cut up in front of them, locally sourced in Wales. Non of this processed meat.. Had 7 vegetables. Huge Yorkshire plus pigs in blankets.. it had the lot plus extra if you wanted it. I made do with a homemade shepherd's pie at home.

Half the price of Cote's and double the flavour. That is a no brainer for sure. Great review and nice you are checking out Christmas menus everywhere so people can decide which is worth going to.
Thanks - yeah that's the idea - look at some budget options, a couple less budget and see where the value is. People will, of course, make up their own minds :-)
It sounds so funny for me as a person vaguely interested in food history to hear you : "Its just some basic cheap white bread, for that price one cannot expect some fancy sourdough." For most of history it would have been : " It's only crusty sourdough, for that price one couldn't expect some fancy white bread."
It looks like you had a good meal there . And the price you paid was more than reasonable. Better than what we get here in the states . One quibble , I think you should have given it 4.0 but it's all good. Very good video. Happy Holidays! 🎄🎄 to you and yours Jim and Harriet
One of the benefits of a carvery is that you know the meats are coming off a proper joint of meat unlike places like Wetherspoons and supermarket meals.
Just talking about going for a carvery in the near future…there’s one of these literally 10 minutes away from me as well. Looks like it’s worth a visit tbh, especially for that price!
My immediate response to the title is "probably not". That Unai goal last night though, now that was very much a festive treat to end off what was always going to be a pretty dreary Monday Night Football!
That penalty was a disgrace. We should won that with a corker Enes special. As for the food, last time I went to a toby carvery was at Fleetsbridge and it was foul. This though looked a lot better. Might give it a try.
What a great 3 course meal at Toby Carvery. Everything you had looked very tasty. I would definitely go there and try out the Christmas menu. Thank you Greeno for another great review.
Seems to be a fair meal for a fair price. The food does look good and as you said it is nothing special but very tasty. I would say a winner on all counts.
An excellent, well balanced presentation Greeno - you covered all the important aspects of the offerings at Toby Carvery !!! One day when l travel to the UK from my home in France, i'll track you down and hope to share a table with you (and maybe Mrs 'G') !!! Well done again Greeno - keep up the high standard you have achieved - 'Bon appetit' and 'Bonne fete' !!!
One of the things I like about buffet carvery type things is that they can't disguise the provenance of the meat. It is the joint you are looking at, not some mystery meat coming out of the back kitchen.
@@GreenoEats I have it on good authority that the Royal family when dining together in private prefer a buffet style food service. Pick what you want, when you want, how much you want.
Hi Greeno. Lovely seeing you both at lunch. Mrs Greeno is so lovely. Good value for Christmas fayre. Love the sweater. Basic but let's hope it tastes OK. Enjoy. 😊😊🎉🎉❤.
This carvery chain seems to have consistently good meat options, which is the point of the whole thing. Vege can really be a bear of a thing to get right, especially when doing them in massive quantities. That meal looked beaut and you can't whinge about the price, especially when I didn't see the dreaded "service charge" on the receipt. Good upload, Greeno!!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. There's nothing fancy about this place, it's solid food to fill a hole at a fair price. Which is sometimes just what you need!!
As you well know by now I'm more up for fine dinning and ambience but if I was a family man with children whose expectations are not set very high then this really would be on my list as a treat to give the misses a break from the kitchen.....never a Spoons 🤣
Here in Australia it is very common for seafood to be eaten at christmas. It is boiling hot here at the moment with some daya being mid 30s and very humid. Turkey and roast chicken is also common. Some people enjoy a bbq with their families. Another thing thats different is yorkshire puddings. I have never even seen one and ive lived in both Australia and New Zealand
I can't imagine a Christmas without the traditional British roast dinner, but similarly I cannot imagin trying to eat that in 30+ degrees! Seafood sounds like a sensible option!
Mmmm, pile em high, sell em low. To be fair everything you had looked really decent, I'd scarf a plate of that any day! Good honest review as usual Greeno!👍👏👏♥️🏴
That looked okay for the price, and would save mom a lot of cooking.Things have surely changed since I grew up in England mainly in the 1950’s(5-15 years of age) then Christmas dinner was a turkey, gammon joint, Brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy, no pigs in blankets, that was a separate meal, no roast potatoes, that was Sunday dinner, no other vegetables, no Yorkshire pudding only eaten with beef in those days, and I had never seen, or heard of cranberries until I went to the US in 1965, only heard of lingonberries, and red currents with any meat in the UK, usually with game.😊😊
Yes, as times change the rules around Xmas dinner also change. We will have Yorkshire pudding, cheesy leek, roasted veggies (parsnips, carrot and onions) alongside a multitude of other veg. Stuffing, goose fat roasties, pigs in blankets. And Turkey, beef and gammon. All served with lashings of homemade gravy. Christmas dinner at Greeno Towers is not for the faint of heart!
Hi Greeno! The prawn or shrimp cocktail! That is one dish that has been a staple on menus for many decades. Definitely a decent meal all-round there for the price. If I was in England, I'm pretty sure I would try a Toby Carvery. Take care Greeno, see you next time. ☺️
For a carvery of it's type, it all looks great to me and better then many i've had this time of the year - I'm fussy with the way vegetables are cooked though and cauliflower is difficult to get right at a carvery - You can't beat home made versions!!! :)
And a good evening to you Mr Greeno, I really liked the art work on the wall. Tobys we have loved. Saw the cheesy starter 🧀🫕🥖my blood ran cold ❄️Seafood sauce, what's poor old-fashioned Marie Rose done to be cancelled 😢🤔? Oh wot no wine glasses available 😩😩. The Carvery counter was very clean and tidy. Always a few extra points for that. Again the meat station were very clean neat and tidy Would have liked to see the chef in action. All part of the theatre experience. Simple food can and should be enjoyable. Like good home cooking but no washing up. It's not a high bar, although some do fail. Not driving an the additional glass of vino or a pint of mild&nasty could notch the meal up a rung or two. Just7 full days left. Oh my how tempus fugits. And still no offer of Pantomime 😂😱 Take care and until the next video cheers Allan&Family
I've managed to get out of going to a pantomime this year - oh happy day!!! Sat through too many painful ones over the years. This was a very neat and tidy venue, something you don't always see at a Toby that's for sure!!!
Can’t knock plain basic brown bread with prawn cocktail- we were only saying this prior to your upload as we are having this on Christmas Day 🥰 memories of this plain basic dish it’s perfect 👌🏽 prawns looked perfect for that - don’t need over exaggerated large special prawns for that at all! Also Marie sauce - you cant pre empt if they made or not? Best way is the original recipe which still tastes out of a jar maybe? But shouldn’t complain as that’s how it was born
It's good if your timing is right and everything is hot and fresh. Yours looked good. I have been wanting to try their lamb which I think they do at weekends. Thanks for the vid 😁
As a prawn cocktail nerd Greeno, I thought that looked pretty sound. A lot of places don't bother with cucumber, so it's great to see some in there. Love also a little chopped fresh tomato as well. Wasn't obvious, but was there any in there? Loved also the fact they served brown bread & butter with it as well - a must lol! 😊
Spot on review Greeno, that’s great value for decent food. Luckily I live near a decent Toby and always have a great meal there, I understand they can differ in terms of quality from location to location but like I said, luckily I am near a very well ran one!
A solid 3.5 ..... Where did you learn to plate food? ... A maximum security prison 😂 .... Other than that, I thought the food was quite good for the price ... Good to see you back with the solo videos .... No need to turn the show into an episode of Blue Peter ... Well done.
good evening greeno its been years since ive had a toby carvery and tbf that all looked nice i may have to sample one over the christmas period theres one about an hour away from me so might be worth the trip thanks for the review mate : )
That looked amazing! I’ve never seen a a shrimp cocktail presented that way. Almost like a shrimp salad 😂. How does that meal work? Is it like a buffet where you can go backup and fill up another plate?
Ooh that’s a good price 👏 Prawn cocktail was basic in the 70s and is still loved the same way today 😋 Definitely go for beef or pork with crackling - yum! 👍 For optimum freshness you have to go at the start 🤷♀️ Again a nice basic buttery crumble works well and is just fine for the money - prefer with ice cream 😋 Solid festive Christmas meal - very good value for money 👏
I almost always find beef overdone for my taste at a carvery, I like it almost still mooing. The crumble reminded me of ones my Mum used,to make when I was a kid.
We used to go to the Northbourne Toby in preference to the Somerford or Cooper Dean one, they seemed to care a bit more. But haven't been since their re-decoration! Has it changed much inside? The meal was certainly value for money considering what others are selling and at least you know you are getting real meat rather than processed! Can't say I've ever seen that car park so empty, I take it you went mid-week early?
I never went in that one before the refurb, so hard to tell 🤣 It’s quite nicely done, just looks like a fresh Toby Carvery really! I actually went midweek, but around 2.30pm. Normally I try to get to places as they open, but this time of year that means possibly encountering large parties of folk on Christmas get togethers…
Sounds like very good value to me. Probably would have scored it higher. These type of banquet places can be hit or miss but this looked good, not a rip off and you enjoyed it. I would certainly like something like this where I am but it does not exist.
I'm glad that was decent, both for you eating it and for me, as I have to go to our old friend the Poole branch on Boxing Day with a large group of the in-laws. I feel a little better about it now, so thank you!
Looked and sounded like an okay Christmas lunch, mate! I wouldn't have eaten it and I could be content with was on the plate, without it being fantastic. Getting closer and closer to 20K subs and quite sure you will reach it before Christmas! Have a wonderful rest of your day and keep up the fabulous work! 😊
Thank you very much, always nice to hear positive words from the Good Doctor 🙂 I have seen your very generous donation to the Buy Me A Coffee too. I am travelling on a train currently and the site won't let me log in to send a reply from there, but be assured I will take care of that when I am home later. Much appreciated 🙂
@@GreenoEatsno worries, the most important thing are the charities and not a thank you. Especially when one is a children's hospital, my wife is a heart surgeon specialized in children and she both loves and hates her job, because some days you can't do anything for the patient and other day you get to save a small little creature. So it's something close to our heart's.
@DrFrankLondon Wow, that sounds like a stressful job, at times hugely rewarding, and at other times heartbreaking. Julia's House is a wonderful hospice care facility which provides vital services to the sick children and their families at the most difficult times. Again rewarding and heartbreaking work!
Nice to have that memory. My older daughter loves a Toby too, and actually picked to go on her 13th birthday when given the choice of anywhere to have a birthday dinner!
Yep I would 💯% give this a go, I do think it’s good value for money! You know what you’re doing Greeno with the colour of the hoodies!! Autumn comes so you go with an Autumnal brown 😂 top video ….Smithy
Hi, Mr G. Would I go and have a Toby Christmas Carvery? I think I might based upon your fair and detailed review. What more can we expect? What I want to know is whether we will be getting to see Mrs G's roast potatoes??? Less than 200 to go eh? Easy 20k by Christmas Day latest - all down to your happy and positive demeanour. This time next year you will be easily be celebrating at least 50k methinks. I wonder if TC do a Christmas Carvery TGTG ?
20k just around the corner Nikki! And hopefully your predictions will continue to be right!! It would be interesting to know if they do a Christmas TGTG - I would guess perhaps not as the staff would be all over any leftovers, and fair enough if they've worked the day themselves!
love a cavery like to make a choice ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉yes i am thinking of going to my Toby would be first time on my own 😢first time was in 2016 with my Husband and 2 Sisters ❤but i would have the main only
Nice review ! Decent price . Looked good especially the pudding. Do the staff look at you strange when you are videoing pouring the gravy on ? 😆 Happy Xmas
I love this concept of being able to get a real meal all year round and a Christmas meal at Christmas. i crave a restaurant in Australia like this when im short on time after work at 6.00..you want home cooking comfort for dinner.being single this would be a help.😊❤🇦🇺👍 You plated meal looks delicious, better than Morrison,s or spoons .
Well i would say 4/5 and Goodbye Weatherspoons Xmas lunch and "Hello" Tobys carvery.I cannot afford to spend more, so this christmas offering would be just fine for me thanks😊
Hi Greeno That looked to be a massively better Quality meal than the Whetherspoons offering . Like you said it’s not Gourmet food , and not as good as Mrs Greeno’s will be on Christmas Day I feel sure . But for the money it looked a pretty decent to me . Good review as always.
It was definitely better than the Wetherspoons offering. Christmas lunch at Greeno Towers is a joint affair between myself and Mrs Greeno. I’ll be in charge of meat, spuds, stuffing etc. but her Yorkshire puddings and cheesy leek can’t be matched!
Standard fayre but sometimes comfort is good. Miles better than spoons and Cote. If you time the sit down right the ingredients are nice and fresh too. I always go for lunch there just before midday. And no washing up
I have no problem with people enjoying whatever they like on Christmas Day. I know someone who always orders a curry from their favourite takeaway on Xmas Eve and reheats it on Xmas Day 🙂
Good evening folks. Tonight we find out if a budget Christmas Lunch can be any good...

There is one simple reason for Toby Meat being so good and that's the ovens used.
They use what's called a cook and hold oven bu Alto Shaam which slow cooks the meat and holds moisture.
Each oven is around £20k a pop .
I know this as I installed them in many of the carverys.

great vid , looks like nice food! Awesome Greeno! what are you doing xmas day and whos cooking!! cheers
Just the immediate family at home, and myself and Mrs Greeno will share the cooking. Her Yorkshire Puddings are tremendous!
There were halved cherry tomatoes in the salad 🙂
Spot on review Greeno, that’s great value for decent food. Luckily I live near a decent Toby and always have a great meal there, I understand they can differ in terms of quality from location to location but like I said, luckily I am near a very well ran one!
Glad to hear it - a good one is a reliable, lower cost option
Great review, good VFM :) Merry Christmas all :)
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂 Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your kindness, it is much appreciated!!
@@GreenoEats Thank you for supporting two good causes.
A solid 3.5 ..... Where did you learn to plate food? ... A maximum security prison 😂 .... Other than that, I thought the food was quite good for the price ... Good to see you back with the solo videos .... No need to turn the show into an episode of Blue Peter ... Well done.
I was trying to plate completely one handed as I had the camera in the other hand - did not go as well as planned!
That was worth the price. Three point 8. A very filling three course. 🎄🥳
Yes, as filling as you want it to be, as you can restock on veggies etc of course!!
@GreenoEats Can you get more than one Yorkshire pudding?
that grub looked top notch and ideal for parents with a family, great video
Yes, decent budget option for families with kids, especially if they are fussy eaters. Just let them get what they like!
That price would be cheap 5 years ago. Under 19 quid is insane. Toby is pretty good, I would have it. Mr greeno does yet another winner.
Agreed Dale, it’s really good value!
The crumble looks yummy ❤
It was good!
Its not the best but you have to love a TOBY... 4 of us stuffed a month ago with bill of 45 quids. Abs VFM
Better than a Gordon Ramsay Beef Wellington then 🤣
good evening greeno its been years since ive had a toby carvery and tbf that all looked nice i may have to sample one over the christmas period theres one about an hour away from me so might be worth the trip thanks for the review mate : )
Glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope that you will enjoy the Toby if you get there!
That looked amazing! I’ve never seen a a shrimp cocktail presented that way. Almost like a shrimp salad 😂. How does that meal work? Is it like a buffet where you can go backup and fill up another plate?
You can refill with vegetables and potatoes, just not the meat 🙂
@ figures! 😊. Enjoyed your video as always!
The veg sounds good tó me I like my veg well done. It all looks lovely. 10/ 10 take care thankyou
Get down and enjoy one then Carol, that's my advice!
The only thing that could spoil that meal would be sprouts.
Great looking xmas dinner and a fantastic review.
Cheers Greeno.
I don't like sprouts at all!!
Ooh that’s a good price 👏
Prawn cocktail was basic in the 70s and is still loved the same way today 😋
Definitely go for beef or pork with crackling - yum! 👍
For optimum freshness you have to go at the start 🤷♀️
Again a nice basic buttery crumble works well and is just fine for the money - prefer with ice cream 😋
Solid festive Christmas meal - very good value for money 👏
Hi greeno that looked like a decent meal and you couldnt crumble about the price. Hope you are keeping well and the family ❤❤😊😊😊
No grumble with the crumble!
I've got a Toby about ten minutes walk away so I might just give it a go 👍
Why not - it's good value
Looked nice chap, good value for money…👌👌😋😋
Yes, much better value than Cote!
Love ❤ any roast any day of the week Greeno yum 😋 ❤🎉
I could eat a roast most days!
@GreenoEats me too Greeno definately 😅🤣🙏
Thanks
Thank you very much, that is most kind 🙂
Great video Greeno.. the food looked more than ok
Agreed - Toby is not always perfect, and this wasn't without fault. But for 3 course under £20, and filling at that, can't grumble!
Sounds like very good value to me. Probably would have scored it higher. These type of banquet places can be hit or miss but this looked good, not a rip off and you enjoyed it. I would certainly like something like this where I am but it does not exist.
It wasn’t perfect, but it was certainly good value for the price paid.
What a wonderful gesture to donate your earnings....Top man Greeno
Seems the right thing to do at Christmas!!
My local Toby to go to, many a breakfast consumed there 😁 looking good Greeno
It’s one of the good ones it seems!
A good meal for the money, I would say. My parents took me to a Toby for my 18th (many, many years ago 😂), so I do have a soft spot for them
Nice to have that memory.
Well I won't wear white hoodies in the winter Smithy - they'd be stained with gravy and all sorts in no time!!
@ sky blue Greeno…. Do some reviews in Coventry! 😂
The food looks yummy ❤ and that's cool you're donating your money to charities this month ❤
Seems the right thing to do at this time of year!
Crumble looks good. Can't go wrong with Toby Carvery. No parsnips sadly.
No grumble with that crumble!
I love prawn cocktail ❤
One of my favourites!
£18.49 not bad, not bad at all👍🏻
Very fair price right!
@@GreenoEats yes, sir.
Looked good + good value. Is that the Toby on outskirts of Bournemouth?? Aim to go when next in Bmth!😃
This is the one in Northbourne - the one on the way into Bournemouth from the east is the Cooper Dean branch, near the hospital - I haven't been there
@@GreenoEats cheers.
Thanks for the review! :)
You're welcome!
love a
cavery like to make a choice ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉yes i am thinking of going to my Toby would be first time on my own 😢first time was in 2016 with my Husband and 2 Sisters ❤but i would have the main only
If you do go I hope you will enjoy it 🙂
@ thanks Greeno will let u know 😍
Looks like a nice Toby carvery. ❤
It was refurbished a year or so back
Nice review ! Decent price . Looked good especially the pudding. Do the staff look at you strange when you are videoing pouring the gravy on ? 😆 Happy Xmas
The staff and some of the customers always look at me strange when I am talking to myself too!
Think that was very good food for the money, that dessert 🍨 😋 😍🥰🥰 bloody lovely 🎉
Yes, very fair for the money I think
I love this concept of being able to get a real meal all year round and a Christmas meal at Christmas.
i crave a restaurant in Australia like this when im short on time after work at 6.00..you want home cooking comfort for dinner.being single this would be a help.😊❤🇦🇺👍
You plated meal looks delicious, better than Morrison,s or spoons .
Well i would say 4/5 and Goodbye Weatherspoons Xmas lunch and "Hello" Tobys carvery.I cannot afford to spend more, so this christmas offering would be just fine for me thanks😊
I think it's a good option for those on a budget certainly!!
And no washing up
Get there just as the lunch service starts huh, that's the key?
It hasn’t failed yet haha
Love your videos Greeno.
Thank you Craig
I'll be happy with my steak and chips on my own for the last two years.
I have no problem with people enjoying whatever they like on Christmas Day. I know someone who always orders a curry from their favourite takeaway on Xmas Eve and reheats it on Xmas Day 🙂
wow quiet large Crumble ❤
It was! Not that I was complaining 🤣
@ 😺😺
