ALWAYS TELL A RELIABLE, RESPONSIBLE PERSON EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHAT TIME YOU ARE RETURNING, AGREE AT WHAT TIME THEY SHOULD RAISE AN ALARM. DON’T THEN GO SOMEWHERE DIFFERENT, AND DON’T FORGET TO TELL THE PERSON THAT YOU HAVE SAFELY RETURNED!

I did some research on this base in Italian media and it looks like it has been stripped of everything of value by thieves once the base was officially dismissed at the end of the 90s. Some even suggest that this was coordinated by someone who knew the base well, since it seemed like a professional job.
Apparently at some point there was even an illegal doghouse in/near the turret you show in the video (I think), where they would raise rottweilers for either resale or illegal dog fights.
It's a shame it is abandoned like this, I think it would make for a pretty cool museum about cold war, but I guess it would lose its charm as an abandoned place.

In my country, many bunkers which in coldwar were on the other side to this NATO bunker, were strip to the last piece of metal by so called "scrap metal thieves" - but do not imagine them being bunch of hillbillies with crappy handtools. Several ton heavy armored seal doors to abandoned nuclear weaponry storage magicaly dissapearing from 10 store under ground means professionals, heavy machinery, and officials looking away.

      @Elmithian 4 роки тому +18

@@volfcz Tbf, as historical as that is, without any efforts of the government in question, you are just letting resources waste away and creating dangerous situations.
As much as I am saddened by the loss I also understand the thought of "why not use the material?" Even if it is largely done from greed.
Waste not, want not. One man trash is another man's treasure as they say.

Even knowing that I probably never go there it was pretty fun finding that place just searching online
First i found the time that you got out of there plus the shot in the van ( 21:27 )here you can see the time, by that I knew more less the time of the year that you went there.( used this to know were the mountain was facing because of the sun). 21:01
I used the last drone shot where you can see the vilage and the other mountains with the help of an altitude map of italy. 20:52
Knowing that there was formation of mountains with a couple hour drive from the sea and that the mountain was facing east i found it.
I know this is not intresting for anyone but it was very fun.

what I've learned from all those bunker expoloration videos on YT so far:
    1) no matter how strong the blast doors are, the air vents are still the proverbial achilles heel when it comes to limiting unauthorised access.
    2) mold spores, asbestos and leaked toxic chemicals are the health hazards underground, as opposed to the agents from atomic, biological or chemical warfare above ground.
One peculiar fact is that the vast majority of cold-war era military communications/intel bunkers were only good for about 20-30 (at the most) days of complete lockdown, before the supplies (water, fuel, air filters etc) would have been depleted.
Thanks for the upload! Fascinating documentation.

Love the videos as we have nothing like that down here in NZ. However, trying to order your calendar is a mission as you don't know if you've done it correctly... the window opens but you can't go back or get a confirmation... just a suggestion... I'm looking forward to seeing some CZK bunkers when I can get back up there.. Keep up the exploration.

It's so strange what's been hidden underground. I used to live somewhere where they had a 3 story hospital dug into the mountain. It got abandoned in the 70s due to radon radiation. To my knowledge, nobody has been in there aside from a private contractor who uses one of the aircraft hangars as storage for heavy machinery.

if I may suggest, you could use strobe lights used by scuba divers. You can set them at main intersections along your way so you can have a guidance even from a very long distance in case of a major problem and running out of light/batteries. They are very durable and the blink can last for a long long time. It's not expensive and who knows? it may even save your life one day.
As for the line you saw on the ground. It is indeed a clever idea. Again, you can use scuba gear. There are reels with massive amount of line and you can also use special arrows that can be attached to the line to indicate the direction for a way back. The best is to use several reels like that and you can attach the lines back to back. And, of course, you recuperate everything on your way back.
