    This video was great. I really appreciate going the extra mile to show how to loosen the top of the door panel because mine also didn't have enough space to work with the cable.

    Matt, one late addition to my earlier comments about replacing the passenger side mirror on my daughter's 2002 Focus. A T-20 Torc was needed for the screw that helped secure the mirror to the door. All the panel Torx we're T-15s. I have no idea if this was just a fluke, but it did come from the factory with a T-20 in that position. Again, thanks for the great video and for saving me a bunch of money. Dan

    Thank you so much for the easy to follow and detailed video!! This was a major help, and turned a project i've been dreading into an easy peasy 15 minute job!

    Thanks for the great easy-to-understand video! I installed it with no problems! One side note: my 2008 Focus did not have the screws around the door panel on the driver side. It just pops out for easier access. Otherwise, GREAT! Thanks Matt and keep up the great work!

    Thanks for posting this it came in very handy this morning as I broke my mirror off yesterday morning adjusting my a/c while backing out of the garage. Happily the garage door track was unharmed. But anyway, replacing the mirror was easy, esp. with being able to watch your video first.

    Thanks for uploading, very helpful, although the UK Mk1 Ford Focuses don't use Torx screws on the door cards for some reason.

    One thing I would recommend is to test the mirror works before you put all the screws back in....

    Great video.
    I can almost guarantee that unless your Focus came from the factory with heated mirrors the heating elements in the new mirrors will not work. Even thought the door harnesses have the wires for the mirror motors and heating elements (5 wires at the mirror connector) the body harness and/or fuse box harness do NOT have the required heating element wires. I have added them in my 2005 ZX4 and will be doing a write up at the Focus Fanatics website on how to determine if your Focus is pre-wired (most are not) and if not how to add the wires. The mirrors heating elements are controlled by the rear defroster switch. You can easily test if the mirror elements are heating by holding you hand on them to feel the warmth or holding an ice cube against them and it will quickly begin to melt. Each mirror element will draw about 0.8 - 0.9 amps at ~13 VDC.
    Let me know if this is helpful.
    Paul

      Paul1958R you're right, you cannot retrofit a heated mirror on to a vehicle that came without the heated mirror option. Good point!

    • @Paul1958R
      @Paul1958R 7 років тому +1

      Actually you can if you add the missing wires.

    Thanks for the video...was a little painful to watch you struggle with the door panel. An extra 5 minutes to completely free the panel for direct and easy access to the foam and main mounting bolt would avoid a lot of frustration and maneuvering. This got me started, though.

  • @danjoyce6921

    The only extra step I took was to check power to the connector. My my case it was easy.......the motor still moved the mirror. No meter needed.

    • @MattStephensRich

      Offers noise dampening primarily, but you’re right if it were to tear for throwing it out.

    what if I get the heated one and my car doesn't have that option? It's actually $3 cheaper on ebay than the non-heated one.

    • @MattStephensRich
      @MattStephensRich  3 роки тому

      Good question - it should be ok, or at least, there will be an extra heating wire connection on the mirror. It shouldn’t interfere, but don’t be afraid to cut-remove if it gets in the way!

    • @rickyiglesias5384
      @rickyiglesias5384 3 роки тому +1

      @@MattStephensRich Yeah, I was thinking that it would be okay. It won't work, obviously, as my car doesn't have that feature, but it shouldn't cause an issue. Thanks for the reply and good instructional vid!

    Will a 2007 side mirror work for a 2008 Ford Focus ? I know it’s not the same year

    • @MattStephensRich
      @MattStephensRich  4 роки тому

      I would buy a 2008 spec, but the general principle and process here should still apply. (Majority of vehicles have the same set up for their side mirrors)

      Pretty sure, but double check with where ever you're buying the mirror that it fits your model year.

    Can I replace a heated mirror with a non heated mirror? I just ordered a non-heated one not even knowing there was a difference. Will I hate the non heated one because I live in Michigan LOL

    • @MattStephensRich

      It should be able to swap; just double check the electrical pin connection to make sure it still connects ok before installing!
