I got a mobile service guy over to replace my oem steering wheel and he did it starting at the step where you stick the two flat screwdrivers to pop out the airbag. He said no reason to disable anything, that’s the advised way to do it by tesla. Took him all of 3 mins to swap it in.
The silver carbon fiber looks cool with the white interior! Very unique design for someone that wants something different! It’s nice to have options.

I've just had my steering wheel replaced under warranty (the material had sagged a bit so Tesla offered) and it took about 10 minutes. Every easy to do
At 2:15 the stock wheel looks like an inner tube out of my kids bicycle wheel.
You do not have to disconnect the high voltage to change a steering wheel. I’ve done mine multiple times.

You don’t need to disconnect anything. A airbag will only go off if the car is moving.

I like how the touch buttons are on the new yoke wheel in model S, i just don't like the yoke either. Regular wheel with the touch stuff from yoke would be nice though.
Wouldn't mind for the dash going across, seeing something in gunmetal brushed aluminum or titanium.
the reflection is way worse the darker the tint lol that's why I installed a matte black cover for the dash.
Just a FYI, you dont need to disconnect the battery, the whole backseat thing... ive changed mine out numerous times ( i have a few different ones) for my wife and my car and never have had a issue ever...
I think the reflection is a bi-product of the tint on the inside of the windows. I just had 50% done on both front windows and noticed the reflection of my wood grain immediately when prior to tint install I hadn’t noticed a reflection.
You kind of skipped a few steps. I there a mark to line up the wheel straight inside? Is the hook up for power in reverse, seat cable, then battery? Anything that you have to reset after power is restored. Is there a torque setting for that bolt holding the wheel? The a mat carbon fiber could be cool, silver doesn't do it for me, but I like the shape.
I’m not in my Model Y long enough to have an opinion. Home to the golf course and back. Probably 20 minutes per day. I will stick with stock look. 😊

The reflections are always there in a white interior (white dash, white seats, etc), especially on a sunny day. You just have to mentally block them off when driving. Now I changed to an all black interior and I don't even notice reflections.
PSA: for the seven seater Y, there are small clips that you first have to undo and then pull up on the rear seat. I made this mistake by yanking the mount out of place

Two observations: 1) The white mini dash is crazy cool looking in my car. I wasn't ready for that but it's dope. The reflection IS an issue (at first) then I've noticed I just tuned it completely out.
2) I wonder if that heavier steering wheel dampens inputs meaning the steering at high speeds in MY 2023 is very twitchy meaning ANY steering input is immediately put into the road. Does the heavy steering wheel help with that?
I prefer the yoke s.w.

Pro tip: Forget all that disconnect stuff. Just bite down on a piece of leather and try to get your head out of the way.

Some comments about not disconnecting the low voltage battery. Disconnecting is for safety reasons, airbags use capacitors that are used to trigger if power is cut off in a crash. Technically power should be disconnected and let sit for a few minutes to let the capacitors discharge. Once saw a guy troubleshooting an airbag issue and he kept disconnecting/reconnecting it and it went off. Luckily for him he was under the dash but it cracked the windshield and ruined the dash. Yes the airbag can be switched out without disconnecting power but I wouldn't risk it. If it hasn't happened, doesn't mean it couldn't.

Awesome looking wheel! I'm considering the matte carbon or glossy carbon wheel. Is keeping the original airbag an option? As a former Tesla quality inspector, the stock airbag harness is the one thing I recommend keeping stock when replacing steering wheels. Especially with that after market Tesla "T". That could become an extremely dangerous projectile if it's not designed properly upon deployment of the airbag... Have they specifically mentioned safety of the deployment of their airbag? I don't see it on their website.
Can you speak to your experience about the difference in how hot the steering wheel gets in the car? Does the glossy top part retain more heat and feel hotter than the stock wheel? Is it cooler overall?

Had the absolute worst time buying a model y. Took delivery of it and so many panel gaps and an entire misaligned back seat… never again. $55,000 for what? A battery? 😂
