    What's making me a little worried about the Skinetic vest is that their Kickstarter just completely crashed and burned. Partly because people didn't know what games had support, partly because of the missing wireless functionality and Quest support, and all those problems are still unsolved right now except for promises...?
    In any case, from a developer's view: bhaptics competitors have a steep uphill battle ahead of them. It took the company several years of software development to get the SDK integration as smooth and painless for game developers as it is now. Catching up to that is quite the feat, and Skinetic definitely isn't there yet. :-(
    I think another interesting competitor would be OWO, who are in a similar position but have going for them that they are providing exactly the one sensation that has been missing: sharp impacts and sudden flinches. I have a DevKit at home and am working on some integration, maybe try to get your hands on one of these before they release in October.

      @@Gamingwithmatteo311 Thanks. I did talk to developers at Skinetic and OWO, and do help them here and there. But I am not for hire, I have a cool job, and more importantly: a family to spend all the free time with. 😉

      Everything stands and falls with the support...or the standardization....the more habtic vests come on the market the more the support will disperse....here Bhabtics has a few years head start but the Owo vest meets all the requirements to go a similarly successful way.... I hope so because I (native Quest user) would like to order it 😬👍

    • @FlorianFahrenberger
      @FlorianFahrenberger 2 роки тому +3

      @@AndiR_78 Having worked with the bhaptics, Skinetic, and OWO hardware and developers... If you want a recommendation for a Quest user: Get a bhaptics vest. Unless you are really, really looking for the physical pain experience. Only the OWO can deliver pain. For everything else, bhaptics right now is so much less hassle, has so much more flexibility for effects, and has so many more supported games that you really cannot justify the OWO skin. And the more fair comparison is the X16, which is more similar in the amount of motors to the OWO skin's electrodes, and then you don't even have a price advantage anymore.
      If you need more details, let me know. For now all I can say is: Yes, you can order the OWO skin now. But unless you really want to feel pain or like to go a more experimental route, with tinkering and problems, really rather go with a bhaptics vest.

      @vicapple6663 Рік тому +1

      @@FlorianFahrenberger What's your perspective as a developer on the timeline of Owo getting support similar to bhaptics? I wasn't going to get a Bhaptics because Owo offers a far more intriguing experience, but I'm starting to wonder if it will be at least a full year after release before it really gets support for a wide library of games.

    Great review Matteo! Love that you compared it to the BHaptic vest! The vest seems to be good. I just can’t justify getting one because I bought the BHaptic X40. Thanks for all that you do!

    We definitely need a software standard for haptic devices in order to enable widespread adoption.
    OpenXR seems to be a good start for headsets, but in the long term there is so much more.
    As a bhaptics vest user, it feels a bit like early VR: Not a lot of titles which natively support the vest.
    As time goes by, things will likely improve, but the software support is my main concern for all these add-ons.

  • @森里螢一-f3c
    @森里螢一-f3c 2 роки тому +7

    I’ve owned both x40 and arms from bhaptics and the only reason I paid almost one grand for that old tech is the excellent software support in the VR Industry. If we just want to experience the coolest haptic feeling, No one can beat something like Tesla suit, that being said, this new vest might be little more “immersive”, but how long will it take for them to get that long list of native support games? Coz audio to haptic really sucks in my opinion.

    Something I'd like to know is. The BHaptics motors have a high pitched whine when trying to create feeling from the high end frequencies.
    I find the bHaptics pretty annoying, especially with open ear speakers like the Index.
    How does this vest handle the higher frequencies and is it as annoying as the bHaptics?

    I saw the Skinetic vest on KS but shied away from it because it was kind of costly and there's too many unknowns right now, like will it even have game support, which it sounds like is a story that got repeated quite a bit given how the kickstarter failed. Which isn't too inspiring, but sucks as there's some amazing tech in it!
    You could have the greatest, most detailed haptic vest in the world which perfectly stimulates sensations on a 1:1 basis, but if the software support is non-existent, then you've got a nice paperweight. As more and more of these peripherals crop up, they'll really need to be some kind of standard created so that these devices can be as easily supported as possible, much like the industry is moving to the OpenXR standard for headsets instead of everyone having their own OpenVR solution that created some compatibility headaches. VR industry in general feels like it had the hardware there, but the software side of things is lacking comparatively.
    Without something like that, unless a competitor ends up having a really dedicated fan to create a bunch of mods for big games or the creators make it themselves, I don't foresee too many bhaptics competitors having success as long as they keep being sold at their current prices.
    Which is a shame. Because legitimate competition is only good for the consumer and drives forth innovation to stay competitive. Things like the Skinetic and OWO Vests look far ahead of bhaptics in the sensations they can replicate, but it won't matter if developers don't try to support it. Bhaptics had almost zero support when it came out, but now it has a library in the triple digits and some major titlles to its name. But it took YEARS to reach that, competitors won't have that time when bhaptics already has such market share.
