Well not a good morning at the field. please dont be offended if I dont respond to quickley to the crash. I really just want to forget I ever saw this plane!
I feel your pain sir. I am truly sorry that had to happen to such a good guy! But this video will help a lot of pilots know what can happen in crosswind situations. Plus its a good lesson in trusting your instincts. I had to learn that the hard way as well. Now if there is even a hit of a red flag i call off the flight. Thanks for sharing the video. Get in the air as soon as possible that seems to help me move pass a heartbreaker. cheers!
Don't beat yourself up. I know about losing planes. As for the little voice on your shoulder, I have ignored it many times because I was so excited to fly a new bird. I made missteps, took shortcuts to get out and fly...with disastrous results. You know what keeps me flying? You do. I have learned so much about so many birds by watching your videos. This bird may be grounded for a while, but I'll be here watching and learning.
Your RC aviation channel is among the least irritating and among the most real. For me planes take up too much space in my life so I only have a couple but I watch all your videos, and enjoy experiencing your failures as much as your successes and appreciate your honest down to earth approach.
Sorry to see that. I wouldn't use full flaps in a crosswind. They lower your ground speed and make the crab angle worse. You need to land faster in a crosswind or when it's gusty, so use takeoff flaps (15°) or perhaps no flaps at all. Also, the nose looked pretty high. When you deflect the ailerons at a high angle of attack, the down-going aileron can cause that tip to stall. A gyro can make it worse. When a tip drops, the gyro will deflect the ailerons even further in an attempt to keep the tip from dropping. It doesn't know the plane is about to stall. This is why I don't increase my gyro gains for slow flight. It's also a natural instinct for a human, but most humans can eventually be trained to keep the ailerons centered and use the rudder. Especially when they're in the plane and it flips upside down. Fix it up and go again. Also, I'm wondering if your wife ever tried my manual focus idea where she zooms in on something far away and then zooms back out to see if closer things are still in focus. You can't focus on something close and then zoom out.
I really enjoy watching your videos, the good flights and the not so good. It’s very refreshing to see complete honesty in model reviews and is a testament to your personal humility, honesty and integrity, sorely lacking on some other channels. I take my hat off to you my friend - keep up the good work! I also agree with other comments here that a little more power on landing would probably have prevented the stall. It may also be that the recommended CofG may be a bit conservative and could probably be adjusted for a better glide performance after some experimentation.
I planned to maiden a new Yak yesterday, but conditions were 10mph 90* crosswinds gusting to about 20mph. In a rare moment of sanity, I did not unpack the new Yak. I did however take up two other STOL plans and ended up landing cross runway. I was the only one flying, everyone else evidently has better sense. Happily did not nerf either plane, just some wingtip scuffs. Enjoy the channel but have to say I don't enjoy jets so I wouldn't blame you for canning this one. It did look cool in-flight though...

Oh...boy...I wasent expecting this flight for a couple days...ok...so you put it in...let it rest a couple days then go back to it.....yes it has damage..but it's foam and a couple parts....not a huge deal...it will be back in the air....I have faith and confidence in you...👍👍👍👍 But she sure looks good in that morning light...
If it makes you feel any better, I just did the same thing with a brand new FMS Pitts V2, used the wrong way on the rudder to compensate for crosswind and crunched it. New Parts on the way lol. Love the channel
My Brother I know that sucks and it does get expensive. But we see it in your eyes and your voice your actions the joy it brings you and us so for that I say It’s PRICELESS Sir. Thankyou for being you Brother
DARN!!! Here we are, broken hearted, but ready to move on... :) Also, remember, you need sufficient airspeed to achieve and maintain elevator authority, control. On this BIG AL-37, I would recommend landing with Spektrum SAFE Technology; I bet you a tangerine you'd have had SAFEer results.
Ît looks reparable for sure! Sorry for that landing/crashing which I still not understand, were you just too slow?`Because you had a gyro or not? Try to repair that without buying spares! just makeit functional. Maybe it works!! Then you make a remaiden! And if you still don´t like her, give her away. But give her away with a better feeling... she was doing really nice scale fly bys! It´s a stunning scale airliner!! A plane like the normal eye knows and can´t say it´s a model, just if she is moving too fast . Really nice!! Congrats anyway because it wasn´t a bad maiden. More a bit of unluck... Come on Greg! :D
At least you don’t crash on purpose like some other UA-camrs we know.. I’m sorry this happened to ya it’s never fun for sure. It was a beautiful bird, and you’ll bounce back
👀. There is a difference between crashing when trying to increase your skill by pushing your own limit vs a pilot error or not Learning from a previous landing or community. It’s a crash. Why throw shade at another channel?
@andystoybox1723 def wasn't talking about John. I was referring to people who just jumped into the hobby, found a way to get paid by manufacturers to send them planes or have been getting planes sent to them by dealers for years and when they crash (we all do) don't learn from their mistakes and immediately blame the plane. GREG is humble when he makes mistakes, I Make mistakes on my channel too. It hits different when you spend your hard earned money on a plane you love for something to go wrong vs crashing a plane you got for free into the ground because you tried to do a rolling harrier 2 feet off the ground lol
@NeedSpeedRC wasn't throwing shade if I was I would have tagged them. Lol the community knows who Flys for the love of flying and who's just in it for a paycheck and doesn't care enough to give its viewers an honest review. I personally love this channel, Greg's skills are far greater than mine. And we all crash. If you haven't crashed something or had a "mishap" you will.

We've all been there and sorry you damaged her. The world of ARFs and all their custom parts can make repairs expensive. A little advice.... having watched your page for a year now and the variety of planes you go through so fast, I would suggest spending time improving your flying skills. The wide range of aircraft types you like requires it. A good aerobatic (IMAC type) and the structure of learning precision aerobatics made me 10 times to the pilot I was before doing so. Would work for you also
Pretty certain she can be up and running again pretty inexpensively. I looked at the AL37 but it appeared to me that basically once built up that was it you end trying to store and transport as is.
I been contemplating getting this model in an all white and customizing it in a Military paint scheme, But i've seen many RC pilot make this same landing with the AL-37 resulting in damaging it. I may result to using a Gyro too assist if needed for the landing,
Sorry to see, I got one flight in yesterday same crazy cross wind down safe we all called it afterwards. You'll get her fixed in no time unfortunately part of the hobby
The blasted thing is too big - I think something like the XFly J65 Twin EDF 70mm or even the Freewing PJ50 Twin 70mm EDF Jet (they might be the same thing) is more manageable for transportation and handling - on my to get list - but I will not get one like this.. sorry about the Maiden Crash
I can see that you are a perfectionist, this can be repaired low budget or as you do it perfect😢 Sorry always sad to crash such a beautiful bird. You might still get into beeing an airline pilot.
It flies so good but it doesn’t seem to land very well. I don’t see any obvious mistakes on your part. I must add, I do not own this plane and do not know anything about it. Sorry and I know it’s frustrating.
Meh, chalk this up to experience and learning. We’ve all crashed and we’ve all bought an RC that just didn’t put a smile on our face. Just move on and ignore some comments from the perfect pilots that are UA-cam commenters.

Feeling the pain nothing feels as bad as that sinking feeling when you know that you stuffed up.

Can’t glide her in, need a little more throttle power in landing that big biz jet.
I agree.Turned in to close and to slow. Should have been on finals a lot further out.
I warned you yesterday, she likes more throttle. Sorry to see that happen.

The passes by the full moon were beautiful! With all the experience you have, i know you will have her fixed up and flying again soon.
A little more power on landing approach might have helped.

One suggestion that I would have is to mix a little opposite rudder to your aileron. It'll help smooth out your turns.

Bummer, bro, I don't listen much either. 😊
You can put the Esc in your J65 if the L37 doesn't work out.
I been contemplating getting this model in an all white and customizing it in a Military paint scheme, But i've seen many RC pilot make this same landing with the AL-37 resulting in damaging it. I may result to using a Gyro too assist if needed for the landing,

Hi, I’m sorry for your loss , but if you wanna sell the nacelles with the Inrunners , I’ll buy them from you, thanks
Sorry brother that hurt me u will have it back in no time
Half a gallon ca glue and it flies again 😎
That's a BUMMER
It's worse than it looks turned out to be way better than I thought.
At 10.56 i believe i hear you crying, chin up Greg, upwards and on wards to the maiden of your next plane.
100% your fault, it's and airliner mate. You need to make stable approaches on final, its not an aerobatic plane.
When that little voice says don’t fly. You should listen. Go home, and pressure wash the green mold off your house.
When that little voice says comment on UA-cam don't listen
She was party while she was flying
It flies so good but it doesn’t seem to land very well. I don’t see any obvious mistakes on your part. I must add, I do not own this plane and do not know anything about it. Sorry and I know it’s frustrating.
