I got to see her two shows prior to when this video was recorded in the summer of 1995 and ended up hanging out and meeting her anthe whole band after the show. After which I went and bought my first guitar (Yamaha six string acoustic) and got into lessons. Thank you for the inspiration to play Ms. Raitt!
I too saw her outside in a park in Rhode Island, and then she showed up at the bar we went to afterwards, got on stage and played some tunes with the band!
I saw her and her band at Legion Field at the University of Georgia in 1977. Their performance of "Runaway" had just been on Midnight Special. If that name means nothing, go look it up. Loads of amazing music. Anyway, Legion Field is an open field surrounded by berms along three sides. She and her band absolutely blew everyone away. Only one sorta hit at that time, but once they started performing the audience doubled in just a few minutes, Legion Field was very near three high rise dorms, and they flooded out. Man I am glad I was alive and aware in the 1970s
Put Kim Wilson’s harmonica together with Bonnie Raitt’s slide guitar along with their respective singing, and you have a musical treat for the ages. This is real music, kids. Give it a listen.
Such a killer shuffle by the drummer. I can't think of another song with this groove. I like it better than the Thunderbirds' studio version or any of their live versions of the tunes. Those are more like straight time, and the bass player rides the tonic instead of playing blues walking lines like in this Bonnie Raitt version. Plus, the harp licks sound even catchier and funkier at the slower tempo.
@@oseogunda and @Staylogical - the groove you're trying to describe is called a "scuffle," which is just what it implies; a fight or a duel between a standard shuffle (dotted-8th note) and a straight 8th-note beat. The beauty of this hybrid is that it never resolves itself! The effect feels like the track is careening a little, and at the same time creating tension while still feeling 'loose.' A killer shuffle, indeed. Ricky and Hutch are masters of this.
The Red Headed BOMB!!! Bonnie is So Bad..... darn it and I'm Younger than her at 57! that Hottie at 67! Her slide guitar was what hooked me in back in the 70's.
Muddy called Kim the best harp player he had heard since Little Walter and Muddy should no cause he heard and played with all the great ones in Chicago
