James is the original Techno Viking
I love how Hetfield had to hit the cymbal on Lars' drum to get him to start the song
Not really
James: Hamburg thank you for staying as quiet as possible during the song, you rock man.
The audience isn't mic'd. Hence, you can't hear them over about 3000 fucking watts of power. I'm sure they're going apeshit.
Metal shows Were supposed To Be faster. You guys at UA-cam are the only thing that makes me happy In These Dark times... Thank You...
nothing is better than Jason's background vocals
Period.
Remember watchin that gig was a fan after it
So how much gain do you want?
no.
PERFECT SPIRIT
It's a direct soundboard recording with no Mics to pick up the crowd. The only way you hear the crowd is through the PA and James' Mic.
Jason was so fucking awesome on stage, he was feeling the beginning riffs!!
It also comes down to the recording technique and the guitar sound itself. Both have changed over time. Tuning down half a step (yep, only a half a step, not one and a half) alone doesn't have such a dulling effect on the sound.
the slowest live version of master of puppets ever
JASON NEWSTED💖
i was about to play along with this video. and i am pissed as james hahaha 0:15
I miss Jason Newsted, Robert Trujillo is good but I think jason played with more accuracy and feeling...
I think Jason Newstead is more Metallica than Rob trujillo.. If you get what I mean!?.. Infact if it wasn't for Jason I think Metallica would have lost ALL their street cred especially around this time 1995-2000..i saw Metallica live in the early 90s and Jason definitely carried that band live, to the point that if James's voice was fucking up, Jason could fill in.. He did it many times and took lead vocals during seek n destroy, creeping death, whiplash, so what, etc etc!!!!.. For me, Jason Newstead was what metallica needed..no disrespect to Cliff, but I dunno how distorted bass solos and 4 part harmony would have gone down during the whole grunge, alternative rock, pop punk, brit rock, arty shit that was going on in the 90s..jason kept metallica from going under back then especially live!!!
@@zakkvicious1783 I commented that 9 years ago and still agree with you. Such an accurate description of what Newsted did for Metallica 🤘🏻
Vi amo ❤
this was on slovenian national tv... i wish i saw that :)
0:55... James' right hand... downpicking... gahhh. HOW?
it sounds good, you dont need too much gain to sound decent
i did not know they where that funny at that small sort of gig....... i love it..
Best era of Metallica ever.
def osod WTF??
Are you kidding right?
It's really good but not the best
this is one of the best performances of master of seen
@BigRog6789 not really, we are being misguided by the pro audio work, this is a pro shot live which means the sound is taken right from the mix table and not from a taper-audience source, this is why the crowd seems dead&silent.
Kirk Hammet fail pinch hamornic =))
*everyone read If you want* ,the reason everything sounds so dry is because they wanted to sound like and justice for all.... lol jk the mics used aren't what they normally use and is way to compressed.
Nice 2 hear the bass grooving during the solo
...And James For All
that voice
Probably the sound of the crowd wasn´t included on the console recording, I don´t know..
its amazing how much his voice changes between performances. this has to be one of the worst years from what i've seen though.
Why his voice changed;
@@george_97 whiskey, beer and poor singing technique is what killed his voice, he just blew it out
@@captaincumrag42069 I see... Thanks for your reply
James Hetfield anyway is an alive music legend and i hope to comeback soon
*btw his voice now is better than others periods
@@george_97 i want to add that when you sing with horrible technique for so long, you produce micro tears in your vocals chords , when healed, the scar tissue of the former injury tend to be denser and thicker... deepening your voice, thats why he sounds totally different now compared to before. The same happened to Phil Anselmo, and so many others metal singers.
@@geronimoamuchastegui6796 I see...Okay my friend thanks for the information 🤘
You can tell James is getting older...they're tuned down like 1.5 steps at least. The song doesn't sound as punchy tuned down that low to my ears. The performance is great though.
dude this is standard Eb
james guitar = bad ass
It sounds like they play with less distortion, pity waste of a brilliant song
They do
@BigRog6789 its a very little hall just for 2000 - 2500 people -.-
Dude,do that guitars sound meaty or what.
James guitar is fucking great!!!!
0:16 fail xD
jasons back vocals are crazy
Definitely the best version of the song after 1990
0:55 start play 1:33 start sing
The crowd doesn't suck, but the audio of the crowd sucks
BIG UP !
Jason Newstead, the best band member they ever had. Rest of the band always put the music second to the drugs or drink.
Trujillo can't bring what Jason did to live performance, no disrespect to his bass playing but the overall output is diminished with him on stage.
Lucky James and Lars are too old to smash the bar every night now. And if Kirk ever plays as well as Dave well, then, imagine that album......?
Best Era: 1983-1991
Worst Era: This.
that is what happens after bob rock joined the band i really think that the worst mistake they made was not firing his ass immediately after the black album or never hired him they were doing a fine job sticking to the original formula i blame bob rock
You probably never would’ve heard of them if it wasn’t for Bob Rock
the beginning , everyone was like what what what ..
haha
seriously now, James is fucking hot!
Shame about the guitars, because the drums sound absolutely awesome here.
this performance sucks, the only good thing is that James is shirtless
I agree 50%. I think they've always been decent through it all. considering most people can't even play that good sober. And Ah yes. shirtless james. 😝😛
Apparently he started attending the gym in the late 90's.
He seems muscular in this video compare to the black album era.
You suck... Get on your knees.
I totally agrew. He was ( still is ) pretty dashing and fit
He looks like a gay. Eew
why are they palm mutting everything? it sounds weird like that but still awesome
if you wouldn't have hurried to write "fuck up" and you would have watched the whole video, you would have discovered that this was their LAST song on the setlist... after 2 HOURS of concert, "the beginning" cannot be hilarious... unless YOU are the joke!
@WRCreedRS To be fair most of their gigs in this time period sucked... I mean even for Cunning Stunts the music was off for part of it. The one big mess up that comes to mind is during the solo in "One" Kirk got lost. It's OK though Metallica are still the best!
sound heavy as fuck, why they no sound that way nowadays...... oh yes missing jason
+Jorge Sanchez I think they sound way better these days, they're playing it really slow here and still fucking up. Plus James's voice is worn here
these guys realy kick ass in this part,,mosty all drunk..but they still kick ass..best performance of Master..
Either you must be new to metallica or completely oblivious to their other live shows...
Listen to san diego and seattle 89
@@Ulterior-l4k,seen them live ..3 times..
@@henrymeer9640 Dude ur alive hows your life?
6:26 what does he say??? FIX ME? FACE ME?? I've always wondered what the hell does that part says
fix me
oficially, it says face me, but i really think he says fix me the most of the times live.
letissier7 Its fix me.cant u search the lyrics?
i can, i know what it says on the record.
what i dk well is what he says here, and in several other recorded live versions. sometimes he says fix me, other face me, other fuck shit...
now in live he say pancakes .-.
the sound is like from a teenager band
the audio SUCKS
metallica ROCKS
aqui suena el bajo, que raro
What guitar is that Kirk has?
ESP KH-3 Karloff Mummy
@@okilydokily6371 Also of note: That guitar (alongside its "Eye of Horus" twin) were never mass-produced or sold to the public.
At the peak of their alcohol and cocaine powers! Lars was still semi-decent. 😂 Still dope AF! 🤘
huh.....that's from the slovenian tv.....I live in Slovenia....XD
This is why I don't like dual rectifiers for rhythm. Spongy low end, not articulate, no attack to the sound. James triaxis and diezels sound way better
lol. Sold my dual rec because of this. Its almost like its hard to play fast with that thing. Very muddy son of a bitch
Alper Can Did you ever try it with a tube screamer infront? What did you replace it with?
yes. I used my dual rec with ts 808 and dunlop 10 bend eq. Made a remarkable difference but still... didnt buy anything yet but considering mark V or roadster. maybe a diezel vh4 if i can afford
Alper Can Awesome, I would love a Mark iv or V myself. It's been my dream amp forever.
I like this chunky sound, even though it is kind "spongy" sure. But they've had great sounds with it as well.
Lars thought he was being funny at the beginning fucking about with the 4/4 count in.... But I don't think James saw the funny side!
que tibia la gente loco...
im an huge metallica fan, but this gig sucked
they're playing it a little too slow for a live performance.
Robin Hood plays MoP.
This is so fucking amazing, but i don't like so much the tone lol
Metallica
I don’t know if the boys realized then but Metallica was in its prime then.
No. Metallica prime live was from 1989 to 1992
Imbecile lol. This is not prime metallica
@@jd0879 everyone has a different opinion on the matter I’m sure.
bad distortion!!!!
everything about this video is bad the guitar is the driest EVER
drums snare is the best
Brock Carrow Not here 🤣⚰
Listen to them on their Hardwired tour... You'll change your mind about guitar sound.
This might be dry, but at least it has body and it's chunky. - You know why?... Because they're using proper tube amplifiers and speakers and microphones, and probably analogue mixers as well. - Their sound TODAY (2016-2018) sounds like ear-rape, with dry high-end sizzle that makes you want to turn it down. At least I can blast this and not be too bothered, it still works.
James...
whysosexy? ;D
fuera sido mejor que ubieran tocado solos sin publico en alemania es Rammstein no metallica CArajo
No, they definitely sounded bad in this show. Their tone has improved since.
Q porra d distorção é essa?
The audience didnt even sing!!!!!!!!! WTF!!??
I'm sure they did, however; the audio in this video is derived from the microphones themselves and the amps, much less the entire stadium. (This is why we can hear the band so clearly)
As a German i can only say its about the audience in Germany. I've been to bands all over the world, but i can tell you my fellow Germans form up to be the worst audience =)
(Before i get insulted: i might have been to the wrong place and time... each time ^^)
It’s a soundboard recording
Todos fodidos xD
untattued hetfield ;p whent the fuk he gets thats tattoo?
Rivharvla
Worst era of Metallica ever.
xTWOGPlays why?
Couldn't have said it better myself
M Bonz guitar tone sounds so muddy and chunky and Hetfield’s vocals sucked here and they just dont have the power and energy they had in the 80s
Definitely, Load, Reload were fucking rock albums not metal.
Garage Inc was heavier but still rock and while St Anger was hard hitting, heavy and most definitely metal , it was also sloppy as shit and a hot mess.
They didn't recover until Death Magnetic imo.
This performance is sub standard too.
this is metallica worst I've seen
+claudio mendieta Then you must have not seen them from 2003 forward.
+sadsadsa asadasd 2004 was their lowest imo. they were still a tight band as always, but james was really struggling to keep his vocals good. i think rehab had something to do with it
+sadsadsa asadasd 2004 was their lowest imo. they were still a tight band as always, but james was really struggling to keep his vocals good. i think rehab had something to do with it
Infinity
Lars was still somewhat ok in 2004 compared to what we know he is in 2010-2016 :D
+Infinity Yeah, for me sounds 2003 better than 2004, 2003 is an underrated year. At some moments in 2003 his voice from '90s came back, 2003 was after rehab right?
ufff what a awful live performance of the song !!!!
what an awful crowd!
Very drunk
Worst era...
1:01 a fart?? o_O
Que lástima!!!
