Although funny- when you consider the race driver conscience, it can be looked as "inflation", because now 16 yo is driving his golf 3 about 100km/h. So yea- probably the feeling and the physics of the vehicle was, not like 526mph, but around 280km/h
With wood spoke wheels, very high center of gravity, minimal braking capability and no way to keep from being tossed out in an accident, I'm sure it redefined the word scary!
Tire/petrol/pit strategies, spark advance and throttle controls integrated in the steering wheel, brake balance/migration control mechanisms, power to weight ratios...not much has changed, other than safety... Great upload...!
This is where Grand Prix racing began. I just find it so funny.... 1906 French GP: 1st: Szisz / Renault 2nd: Nazzaro / FIAT 1907 French GP: 1st: Nazzaro / FIAT 2nd: Szisz / Renault and 100 years after the very first Grand Prix, the French Grand Prix happens again. But this is the outcome: 1st: Schumacher / Ferrari 2nd Alonso / Renault So, the 2006 French Grand Prix was a mirror image and remake of the French Grand Prix that happened 99 years earlier instead of 100. Simply hilarious.
Much more exciting back then. Some cars had 18 liter engines and topped 170 kph. The organization and paddock had nothing missing compared to today. The circuit was super exciting and dangerous. The racing was totally unpredictable and the winner was decided by the combination of the car’s revolutionary technology, the crew’s faster pit-stops, brains and soul strength.
1:09 "Some see this use of tradesmen as the end of motor racing as a sport" hilarious that this was uttered in 1906. can't keep anybody happy it seems.
The Vanderbilt Cup Races in Long Island, NY, USA from 1904-1910. Racers from Germany, Italy, France and the USA competed. They were the first International automobile road races held in the U.S. In 1908, a Locomobile, built in my home state of Connecticut, won this prestigious event! 😊
Is this commentator the guy from rush that says:”The returning Niki Lauda seems overwhelmed, being overtaken by car after car. Maybe he’s a danger out there, to himself and to the rest of the field.”?
90 mph in 1906. Adjusted for inflation that's over 526 mph today!
Lol!
🤣

90-95mph on the straight in 1906. Incrediable.
Great footage of the very first Grand Prix. I love these historic motorsport movies :)
Hey where is the old le mans 1906
this was 115 years ago, let that sink in
70mph is scary as hell in my 2016 Ford Ka, can only imagine what 90mph feels like in a bathtub on a dirt track!!

This is basically Wacky Races with Dastardly and Muttley.🤣
And they won!!! 🏁💨

great found buddy
And yet Bernie and the FIA removed it from the calendar from 2004-2007.
Thank you so much for posting this! The commentary is exceptional and enhances the brilliant footage wonderfully
I thought the exact opposite. It detracted from the footage rather than enhancing it. IMHO.
😊
My god dunlop has been around forever!
It must be the other dunlop. Dunlop we know was founded around 1965.
Ferenc Szisz was a Hungarian driver-he was my hero!
I never knew Lancia was an actual race driver (strange I know but something I never thought about)
Vincenzo Lancia was a Fiat race driver, before founding it's own car company.
Great historical video ,only if the audio was louder
Try to imaging driving down the hwy while sitting perched on top of the hood of your car, that pretty much sums up the driving experience
KlunkerRider Yep they reached 148 km/hr with those tires, brakes and suspensions😮
Awesome!! much better quality image than most of 50's 60's 70's grand prix we can find, its a shame
And Michelin tires!
Superb footage of an historic event.
Knights of the wheel.
Don't forget either that each time the cars were rolling on Michelin tyres.
Imagens espetaculares. O começo de tudo, uma relíquia.

can’t say better
At 7:50.The Horse is back!!
3:21 IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO🤪
Now THAT was Grand Prix racing!
No assists, no aero, no grip, no power steering, no electronics whatsoever. These are real race cars, not the sim rigs on wheels of today.
Lol, goes to show how much effort was needed to keep those cars running at a race. 😅
#Renault ➕ #Michelin❗❗❗
❤❤❤❤❤
Fascinating
Great!
Looks very much like rallying, except they lap the same piece of road.
Hristo Itchov technically it was rally.
@@marguskiis7711 that was before rally/race split. Races moved to decicated race tracks (and closed street tracks) and rally stayed on public roads
Why don’t they make a big-budget film, something like “Le Mans 1906” instead of all those childish “superheroes” or blue archers of Pandora?:-(
Like it was 300 years ago...
Only 1010 years Christian ,but They were the pioneers and a great generation that advanced Technology
Now this is pod racing!
Das waren noch wahre Rennfahrer, todesmutig.. 🤪⬅️
Great artists 🏎️🏍️

Szisz Ferenc HUNGARY!!!!!!!!!!!
Nossa, e pensar que isso é anterior até mesmo à primeira guerra mundial.
Is this commentator the guy from rush that says:”The returning Niki Lauda seems overwhelmed, being overtaken by car after car. Maybe he’s a danger out there, to himself and to the rest of the field.”?
All the cars seem to be right-hand drive. When did that change?
in 1920s as far as i know
Do you know the name of where this originally comes from?
Sorry @Nick, unfortunately, I don't.
@@boromiszajano no worries. I'm making a video on the this race, would it be okay to use this footage if I give you credit?
@@nicktullett8023 of course, You can use it. I don't own this movie, so You don't have to give me credit neither. Thanks.
Grand prix is french for grand prize
@@foxy126pl6 Never!
@raikko2007 No, the original Le Mans circuit.
Actually, the tack used for the fist Grand Prix has nothing to do with the one of the 24H

What the i dint know theres other layout of le mans
Great film footage. Far, far too much talking, with barely a pause to take a breath; distracting from the action rather than enhancing it. IMHO
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG GRAND PRIX.
16 litre lightweights eh?
yes. sure
1 ton weighr limit
Look at all that pollution. What an era!!
Good job you never caught a train in those days.
Well racing was dangerous in those days.
96 years old...
Ferenc szisz wins

I wish there was a better scan than this, this is pretty low resolution.
