    Thanks for the review Wido. I just purchased this camera and was waiting for a review! Looks quite promising, especially at this price point. Clear skies

    Great review Wido! I actually love the music and this new style :)
    I have the uncooled version of this camera. I initially bought it just for planetary and didn't bother to wait for the cooled version. Now instead of buying the cooled version i've put a peltier cooler from a USB powered fridge on it now it gets to 15 c below ambient. Not much cooling but I tested with darks and it actually makes a big difference :) Now I really love this camera, it's very sensitive in the reds so great for nebaulae and small pixels great for galaxies!

    Really pleased to see this review as I have been doing a lot of research and had already decided this looked like a good option for a camera that can do both DSO and Planetary/Lunar imaging. However, I suppose the big question remains unanswered, which is - is it still advisable to get two different cameras for the two different purposes (at least as a beginner), or is it better to get one camera that does both?
    Pricewise, the ASI533MC which is my preferred pick for DSO is £773 here in the UK, and the ASI664MC which is my preferred pick for Planetary is £287, for a total of £1060, whereas the ASI585 is only £619.
    So my takeaway is that if you are a beginner and are working to a budget, the ASI585MC looks like a great buy (at least as far as the specs are concerned) as it does almost as good a job as the two specialist cameras but for much less money. However I think the two separate cameras do enough of a better job separately that the extra £441 is probably worth it if your budget can stretch that far.

    Very interesting. I use the ASI 585MC Planetary camera and love that low noise and high resolution chip

      Tx! Since Sony introduced starvis 2 and back-illuminated pixel technology, amp glow belongs to the past, and cooling takes care of noise .

    Nice Wido. I see that we must've had a couple of clear nights while I was away. I was off discovering that Bortle 3 in Lochearnhead is no better than Bortle 7 in Amsterdam if its cloudy! Of course that's not the reason I travelled, but definitelty the reason I packed ALL my gear. The 585 pro is a nice little camera for these small dso's.

      Ah yes. I've been there. Weather is pretty unpredictable. Perhaps we should save up for a location in the south of Spain! Let's pray for some clear skies in April. We had a couple in the first week of March during new moon, nice for capturing broadband although bortle 7 remains a challenge. Cheers!

    A lot of detail for this camera and Bortle 7 skies !! Nice !
    Stars are bit large, is it because of small pixels ?
    What software do you use for stars animation with photos ? Tnx🎉

    • @AstroForumSpace
      @AstroForumSpace  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes, should've used an uv/ir cut filter to get normal stars. They're not so expensive. I'd recommend getting one with this camera.

    Hello, I am using it with an Askar 180Pro. I have doubts with the Offset value, I use Gain 252. What do you recommend? Greetings.

    What filter did you use? with a 180-second exposure in the Bottle 7 grade, did the ADU only come out to 1200? I'm in Bottle Grade 5, but my ADU reaches 3000 in just 30 seconds.

    Great film on exactly my subject, txs.
    You are my astro-guru so I kindly ask for your wisdom. I am (a newbie) considering NOT starting with my Canon EOS 70D (and not astro converting my Canon EOS 400D), but rather buy THE ZWO ASI585MC as a newbie allround camera. BUT I cant figure out the effect it has on the exerpiened focal length of the telescope. Following your advice it seems to me the TS 460/80 is great for big objects (like Prion and Andromeda), but with a small sensor like the one in the ASI585MC, will the "experienced" focal length then be like well above 1000mm=only capture a fraction of the Orion nebula?
    Is there a reasonably priced ZWO camera with less "magnification effect"?
    Happy Easter and thanks in advance!

  • @Chorge1972

    I already own an ASI2600MC Pro - do you think this 585 cam is better for small objects?

    • @AstroForumSpace
      @AstroForumSpace  7 місяців тому +2

      The asi2600mc has a higher quality sensor. The only benefit you'd get is the smaller pixel size of the 585mc...could be interesting for small dso's...another option is to get a long FL telescope for higher magnification.

    Wonder if this would pair well with a Skywatcher Quattro 130pds? Thanks for sharing!

    • @AstroForumSpace
      @AstroForumSpace  7 місяців тому +1

      I don't own a 130pds, but your focal length would be about the same - I used a 600mm focal length telescope and the pds is 650mm FL, so you'll have a similar field of view through the camera as shown in the video.

    I just bought one of these cameras but haven't had the chance to use it yet because of the weather. I bought it mainly for the moon but I was also thinking of using it with my grab and go set up instead of my aging DSLR for DSOs. When you say you captured two hours of Ha data, do you mean you used the same camera with a Ha filter, or did you use a separate mono camera? Thanks for sharing Wido.

    do you think doing EAA with the 585mc non cooled version can get similar results?

    • @AstroForumSpace
      @AstroForumSpace  7 місяців тому +1

      Lucky imaging is pretty effective when capturing bright targets. I've tested the Vespera 2 which had a 585mc sensor and the results were quite good.

    I'm in bortle 8-9, your 7 is a little better. Do you use a filter for galaxies perhaps a UV/IR cut?
    Moon doesn't help.

    • @AstroForumSpace
      @AstroForumSpace  7 місяців тому +1

      Didn't use uv/ir cut for these tests, only an Ha filter. And yes, broadband dso's are best captured during a new moon 😀.

    A pity a monochrome version is not available, the color camera does look to be a remarkably good for the price.

    If you want affordable buy the planetary version and my ZWO planetary cooler. I can ship it to you co you can do a comparison test. (maybe an idea?)

    Can the battery station 240 Wh CTECHO GT200 lat all night? If I am not wrong, only the camera, according to specs, needs 12V 3-5A (36 to 60 W). Thus, the camera should drain the battery between 4 to 6 hours.
    I am asking because I am also looking for a lightweight battery that could last 8 to 10 hours.

      Hi. I can power the whole rig for max. 12 hours. That's the am5 mount, asiair plus, the camera, and a dew heater. I cool at -15c, and the camera fan often runs at about 30% power.

    • @boaty1968

      253 is unity gain for this camera and offset 20 if you go lower to 10 you risk clipping the data
