I was just sketching vehicles thinking ro myself "I need to practice drawing cars" and then I scroll youtube and see this.
Just yesterday i was trying to draw a car lol
Awesome! I really do try to put out videos based on what you guys are asking for.
Matrix bro
Same dude
The algorithm has ASCENDED
I love how practical and to the point this is. Instead of confusing us with endless tutorials and theory that we may not even know how to apply. Thank you mr Finch!
The good news is that I don't really understand any of that theory stuff either. So I can't go down that road. I've seen books that really get deep with it, and my eyes glaze over. I just want to know ways to make things work in a way that's practical for a workflow.
@@DavidFinchartist Well stated.
very well stated
@@DavidFinchartist Do you also use 3D programs like Blender? Which is free by the way. That way you get your perspective for free and a good basis for a car drawing. I made this ua-cam.com/video/1q37RahawV4/v-deo.html and want to take this as a basis to make a car painting someday.
@@DavidFinchartist I can draw figures FAR FAR better than I can draw cars or airplanes.
That thumbnail alone is proof of his artistic skills.
Dave..it looks like a delorean and hummer hybrid...incredible!!!
Coolest sentence I've read this week
That would be a car on my bucket list...
That is EXACTLY what I was thinking
ua-cam.com/video/0oYubp7sDvA/v-deo.html
A lot of art oriented UA-camr shows very sketchy examples to just demonstrate topic and logic but you show us full comic artwork for UA-cam format. Thank you a lot. It’s a pleasure to watch.
My dad is an architect and he used that app that you're using and when I was younger and I used to play that app. Thank you for this tutorial my drawing has been improving for the last couple of months ❤️
It's incredibly versatile, for sure!
What app please?
For young artists just starting out, drawing reference lines (grids) is the best trick I learned in college years ago. Oddly enough, I learned it from another art student, not from the instructor. I used to struggle getting the proper size perspective. I’d draw. Erase. Draw. Erase. Draw. Erase. Draw. Erase.
Finally a buddy tells me to do those perspective lines FIRST. and more lines, the better. Just make them light so they can be easily erase or drawn over. I’d always done perspective lines when drawing buildings, houses, etc. But it never dawned on me to draw perspective lines for OBJECTS, like cars, tractors, boats, airplanes.
This trick did a couple of things for me:
1. My sizing was more accurate.
2. I save a ton of time.
3. I was able to complete drawings much faster, thereby enabling me to do more drawings in less time.
4. I SAVED MONEY. I spent far less money on erasers, paper and pencils.
5. And lastly, my works were much, much better because I was less frustrated and more relaxed, which resulted in better pieces.
That was one of the best tips I’d ever received.
One of best tips that I recivied was "draw like a sculptor" and this is exaclty what was this video!
I love that you're honest about rarely using the perspective guideline and just eyeballing it when actually illustrating cars for your work - cause following the perspective 'box' guidelines to a tee sometimes make the overall thing we're drawing stiff, plus surely after drawing for awhile you'd just need basic perspective guidelines instead of the box
Lol you're drawing my car! I drive an 05 Taurus. And I definitely needed this video. Last time I tried to draw a car, it didn't turn out so great.
Haha, that's great! I wanted to pick a car that you would see out there on the street commonly, rather than a supercar that may be fun to draw, but probably not the most practical example.
This is very helpful… u just clarified all my mistakes that I’ve made in my drawings, and the military car is insane I’m learning so much! Keep up the good work 👍
That 90 degree ellipse tip is gold. I had to actually sketch it out to wrap my mind around what you were saying but I got it. Thanks.
David Finch is an amazing artist, I'm blown away each time he draws.
Thank you!
Another great video David. Thank you very much! Looking forward to this upcoming Mondays live stream and to taking some of your courses in the near future! ✍🏻
Awesome, thank you!
Again a great tutorial, thank you so much! I need to do something other then figures at some point, so I will try to give them cars a try ☺️😅🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You have to try it! I'd love to see what you come up with!
This is the best drawing car I've ever seen
Thank you for this! Drawing wheels have always been my bane!!!!!!
Out of all of the drawing tutorials ive seen this was honestly the most helpful one, thank you so much david
David - I love the way you sketch it out and then erase it into oblivion, and then re-draw everything. I have seen you do this time and time again, and most people couldn't bring themselves to erase all that work...but it always turns out great. Thank you.
Amazing! Thanks, Dave!
My pleasure!
great walkthrough on some fundamentals at the beginning, thx
It feels very validating seeing one of your techniques (tracing over 3D models) being endorsed by a legend like David Finch
I had a lock on my way of drawing until i seen this video...it all makes so much sense and i can draw again after 15 years i given up drawing ...im back thanks to you sir ...thank yoy and salutations
Absolutely amazing !!! Thanks for this!
Excellent video, David! Great tips and that end result on the military vehicle is so awesome.
Great work David finch
Excellent video. Thanks, David!
I love your teaching style. It's so easy to follow.
Woww great tutorial video !
Yay thanks for making this tutorial Mr.Finch you are the best. But I will watch it tomorrow as it's almost 12PM 😅
I didnt expect a vehicle drawing tutorial. I never knew I needed this
Yes and i still cant believe I learned prospective watching a car tutorial.
I've learned a lot of things by accident that way.... You never know
Damn I searched for this circle in perspective stuff for almost 2 months but didn't get a satisfactory answer everything was super academic until I watched ur video
I am very grateful ,thanks a lot ❤️❤️
Thanks Dave. Another great tutorial. Btw I thought of a suggestion for a future video. Maybe a tutorial on more dynamic poses and how to keep proper proportions when drawing them?
Pure gold! Thank you very much :D
This is a good car drawing tutorial from a legend.
Wow! Thanks for the hard work and effort on this one. Was nice to see a vehicle from start to finish.
Thanks Lance!
man the first 2 min is amazing enough tbh
Your batcave and batmobile of the Dark Knight are the best ever. 🤘🏻
never been this early i needed this video so thank you!!
Thank you so much for this. I've gotten competent at illustrating the chassis/frame of cars but always got stuck putting the wheels on the car. Now I know its because my perspective was off. I'm going to try these tips, thanks again
Genial , muchas gracias David

Proud FILIPINO here!
ayos2 ❤️💪🇵🇭🇵🇭
Nice I like Filipinos.
you're very good at explaining things. So thank you for that.
Hey Dave you might try sending this design to some film industry and I am sure your military car will break through the defenses and I'll definitely go and watch that movie. Thank You for the tutorial and your voice explaining does help a lot!😀😀
Thanks Ashmit!
I spent the whole second part of this video hoping you would throw a machine gun on the top of this armored vehicle...great tutorial as always, Dave!
Yeah, I wanted to do it, but time constraints...
@@DavidFinchartist I imagined. It was a lot to cover!
dave, i love your station.. its seriously fantastic
Great tutorial this is really helpful because for a car tutorial this can be a great prospective tutorial to study. .
Glad it was helpful!
@@DavidFinchartist thank you 🙏
I've always struggled drawing those doors and wheels correctly . My car drawings looked really weird because the front was always looked like a rectangular pig's nose . Thank you so much for this tutorial sir 🙏 . It feels so good to learn from the legendary comic book artist himself
Thanks!!
Wow, I just discovered ur channel and I'm blown away by your talent, keep up the good work. Subscribed!
Awesome, Master !!! Thank You !!!
so helpful i was trying find a tutorial on how to draw cars ,your truely a example to follow in drawing simple but affectif thanks
This is awesome people should keep subscribing to your show
Thanks!
Look at Dave free handing lines like a boss! 🐸👍
Thx I’ve been waiting for this! Btw it’s amazing
This is an example that most of the great artist are left handed
i've been drawing car wheels like since forever, i knew something was wrong with the perspective but i couldn't really pinpoint the spot. Thanks alot for clarifying!
Another great, useful vid! Thanks Dave!! 👍
Very welcome
Thanks david! You are a Genius dude. Very comprehensive lesson.
Absolutely amazing 😢 .
I really needed this video thanks for posting . Can you post more on perspectives like drawing more buildings please🙏
4:09-4:11 "I don't know about cars, I just know how to draw them." So cool bro bb!!!
Super awesome vehicles, this lesson is so useful And full of info that I’m going to have review this video numerous times as I do a draw along...thank you very much for making this video
Thanks Jordon!
OMg thank you so much! I've been waiting on a car tutorial. I always seem to laze out on non-human illustrations haha
You are so welcome!
Wow! Is beautiful! Nice drawing ,,
Thank you! Cheers!
I really needed this thank you sir
You are very welcome
That's a dope AF vehicle Dave
Truly legendary
Awesome... The circle angle is really useful for a lot of things like a gun I'm drawing. Hope your cold gets better Dave!
Thanks TK! I'm over the cold, which is great.
I need lesson from this channel,,, thats very nice skill
Just finished drawing the mad max interceptor, struggled like hell but managed to get it to a decent point, then you bring this video out 🤦♂️😂 awesome video dave, definitely one of my favourites ad it focused on my weak points and showed me where I was going wrong, thank you 👍🇬🇧
I find I always get more out of things if I've tried to do it myself first. I hope the video helped solve some problems!
@@DavidFinchartist it certainly did, thank you so much.
Perspective makes this kind of thing so easy! had trouble following what you were saying about the wheel perspective.
Oh my god thank you for this awesome tutorial!!! I learned so much!!! Also “I don’t know cars, I just know how to draw them.” Thanks to you, that’s the case with me too. 😁😁😁
Glad you liked it!!
I know people like to say first but I will claim credit for like 616. Awesome video as always. Very informative.
I learn how to draw cars from looking a pictures from real cars. It took me a while but practice make you better at it. Now I use my own design so I don't use picture anymore. That perspective design doesn't work for me it takes longer to draw a car. My strategy is choosing the right angle and follow the lines to make a 3d design of a car.
This is great for a beginner . That's why I love it .
This guy is really helpful 😄 your explanation is really good, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I really appreciate it😊♥️
amazing, i like it. feel like trying it
Cheers. Great instructional vid 👍🏼
Justo lo que necesitaba, thanks!!!
it's amazing I've never tried drawing a car before but this was a fun new experience.🥺
thank you for very good tutorial man. i like it to sketching automotive design
Thank you. This is a god send
I needed this
🙏 🙏 😊
thank you for sharing this with us
I just wanted to say that this channel is amazing, I never thought I would see such amazing techniques all in one channel. Your channel is an inspiration to all artists out there, I was wondering when working with comics, did you ever draw the character called the huntress from the DC comics branch? I feel that it is a character not many people know about or draw, but I think her story is very unique.
Thank you! I have drawn the Huntress for DC before, but only here and there. Never as a major character in anything I've done so far.
Really, it's cool to know that you drew the huntress from DC before, I wish this character was more popular because her style is very interesting. Again thank you for an amazing channel, you are an inspiration.
Wow this is so cool
Thanks for sharing so much information! 😊🍫
Im so obsessed of cars and i love to draw them. I relized that i need help to improve my skillz and this vidio is my answer
A very useful tutorial, an amazing vehicle concept, sir. Thank you very much. Greetings.
Best drawing teacher
I am not a trained artist and i just couldn't understood why the box and crosses method didn't provide a correct circle... now i do :D thenks
Im trying to learn how to draw objects, people and back ground. But Im trash at it. Most tutorials I watch are so complex and hard. But you just made it super simple thank you :)
Also why does your pencil have that on it
@@jadenwilliams781 he has tutorials on all of them. And it's tape around the pencil it's for artists that draw all day it keeps the hand relaxed and gives more control.
@@samankucher5117 Do I just put tape around my pencil and then boom thats how I make that pencil
This is a master piece...❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very nice tutorial master!
Nice work my friend
Hey I started comic art about a year ago and have enjoyed it since you inspired me to begin and I hope to be a comic book artist as good as you some day
Best of luck with it! Drawing is the best job. I'd be doing this for nothing if I had to, so I'm very grateful I've been able to do it for a living all these years
Holy moly guachamoly he replied 😱
I'm working on 3 point perspective for an upshot of a scifi hanger and fighter. Drawing from my time working in aviation and other reference. Still difficult sometimes to get the perspective right.
Thanks dave
WOW
I don't know much about English,
I think I know this painting is great.
Awesome thanks so much! Such great information that is extremely well explained! I especially appreciate the tip on how to draw a circle in perspective! I have had trouble with that for years!
On I side note I think the military vehicle would be a great give away for your 75k sub show!
Thanks! And maybe I'll throw that in there for the show.
Thanks so much david
You sound very different, are you sick? If so then get well soon :)
We had a cold run through the house. The video ended up getting posted late this week because I couldn't do the voice over well for a couple of days. As it was, there were a bunch of coughs edited out of this one!
