Awww the kitty in the end 😍 I love the idea of passing on ink samples that you're not in love with. We end up accumulating so much, that's a nice way to reduce the stash and still give them a good use
It just doesn't make sense to me to hold on to things that I don't really love. I've been trying to be more mindful about all that lately and so why not do the same to inks. Yes, they are small in size but knowing I have tons of inks put a big weight on me mentally.
Awesome swatching video! Alt-Goldgrün is one of my favorite inks. I don’t use it nearly enough. Oxblood was a miss for me too. I’ve heard that mixing Oxblood and Writer’s Blood brings out the best in Oxblood while taming Writer’s Blood. I’m not sure of the proportions, but I’ll ask and see what comes up. The other two you swatched I haven’t tried, but they’re beautiful! And browns. They are so unique and different. I hope you find something that you love! 🤘🏼😸🧡🖋
I really like the Oxblood in my Lamy at the moment, but I'm usually quite hesitant towards these bloody inks because I just don't like the color of blood. It's not a shade of red that I'm particularly drawn to. I should send you a sample of the Deep Magenta such a wet and flowy ink and the color is just amazing!
@@seemownay That Deep Magenta looks fantastic! I’ll connect with you via Discord and we can set up a swap. I’ll have time to put together something over my holiday break. 😸🧡
Marilyn sent me a sample of Deep Magenta, and I LOVE it! I tried Oxblood before and also didn’t care for it for some reason. I LOVE alt-goldgrun, but honestly don’t remember if I’ve tried it in a pen yet. And Sailor yozakura is a weird one for me - I want to love it but I only do when I see other people using it. 😂 Kaweco sport B and BB nibs are my favorite. 😍
May I just quickly? OMG, you commented on my video. LOL. I have Oxblood in my Lamy 2000 right now. It's ok, but definitely not my favorite. The Yozakura is so weird in my pens, the only time it worked ok was in the Kaweco. But I had it in a TWSBI Eco B and a Lamy M and both were just meh.
I love that green as well. If I didn't already have a bottle of Noodler's Army Green, I'd get this one. They are VERY similar. It' might be slightly closer to Tea Time with that little dash of yellow to it. I don't know if you are into stub nibs, but Kaweco makes excellent stub nibs as well. I have a few stubs and this one is one that is regularly in my pen rotation. I'm not the biggest TWSBI pen fan, but their stubs are pretty stellar. I appreciate your color nerdiness, I'm right there with you sister! I love playing with my inks 😊
I’m still not 100% sure if I'm into stub nibs or not. It seems like most problems I have are with stubs. And that just leaves a negative vibe, then I'm more reluctant to pick them up again. I might just be a regular round tip nib person for now.
I got a sample of Deep Magenta from Goulet when I was first getting into fountain pens, and I loved it. I've now used it all up, and I really want to get a full bottle of it.
I have samples of Yozakura, Alt goldgrun and Oxblood. I don’t have Deep Magenta. I finally got the Yozakura to work for me. I tried about 3 different pens until this ink worked in a TWSBI Eco Lilac F that I always thought was extra wet. Beautiful combination. Love AltGoldgun in both drier and wetter nibs. I really didn’t like Oxblood at first. A tad too realistic and I was smelling the iron in blood (mind playing tricks), but I currently have it in a Delike New Moon Dark Rose where I swapped nib unit to a small bent nib and it’s writing wetter and they make a great combination.
Thanks so much for sharing how you were able to get the Yozakura to work. I will have to take note and see if that is the solution for me too. I did not like the Oxblood too and it was the same reason for me too. I have it in my Lamy 2000 and I do really enjoy it in that pen now.
Try Diamine Espresso. I have Diamine Chocolate Brown, but it's more of a warm brown. I have a sample of Espresso, and it's the perfect brown for me. I still need to buy the full bottle, it's lovely.
I don't have any of the inks you sampled but just wanted to say I follow the same rule you have about not buying a bottle without trying a sample bottle first. What an ink looks like in a swatch can be very different from how it looks in a pen or even different pen. Also, performance in a pen during everyday use can vary from ink to ink. Learned that lesson one too many times. lol
I agree 100% that the swatches are so different are not a good representation of how it will look in a pen. I just do these swatches because I enjoy the process, it's like meditating for me. It does not replace the "trial and error" of understanding how it will work in a fountain pen.
@@seemownay I can see how it'd be meditating to do the swatches. I like seeing the swatch videos to see the different properties that might not show when writing with a pen plus its relaxing. 😄
I have Alt-goldgrun and I love that shade of green. I was really disappointed with it in a pen...but that was when I was really new and didn't realize not all inks work well in all pens. Tried it in a different pen months later (after I learned that inks work differently depending on pen and nib) and now it is a favorite. I'm not such a fan of magenta...so I don't have that one.
Yes, that's one of the things I wish I had know earlier when I got back into fountain pens. That not all inks are the same and it's not necessarily the pen's fault when something doesn't feel right.
I love a good leathery ink. I would recommend Montblanc toffee brown, iroshizuku Yama guri, troublemaker tablea, dominant industry winter wood, pelikan topaz, diamine saddle brown, diamine espresso, and paper plume pecan. I could send you samples if you’d like. Let me know and I’ll send you a message on Instagram 🤎

Thanks for this tip re Oxblood and Writers Blood. I must get a sample Writers Blood and try this.

I've had a bottle of deep magenta for a while now I need to break it out and start using it again
I think the only reason I purchased Deep Magenta was because you recommended it to me.

I second toffee brown and Yamaguri, although I don’t know if they’re perfect matches for the traveler’s brown. Two of my fave browns though!
That would be so lovely! Yes, please send me a message on IG!
I haven't really explored any brown inks so far. I'll see how I like them.
