I love how he didn't say "Because I'm an alcoholic." he said "Because I shouldn't drink."...The first step is admitting you have a problem as they say.
Maybe he isn't an alcoholic, just a bad drunk. Drink doesn't agree with everyone.
He’s in too deep. Deceiving himself is the first step towards death. Goodbye Jonathan
macspud28 even strangers believe his lies. His wife said “ Alcoholic “
If it doesn't agree with you...you have an issue. That issue is probably alcoholism.
Charlie Nonya EXACTLY!
This man is a great talent. It breaks my heart to see anyone suffer, but more so when it's someone whom I admire.
He should really get himself together. I think he’s talented but also troubled with drinking and anger issues. Don’t waste the talent you got man!
Me and my family met Jonathan in Shannon airport Ireland years ago..he was drinking a pint of Guinness. He didn't look well but he was a lovely man to speak to
Sorry I don't believe you
@@nazramaxamud4057 - Why not? Everyone's gotta be somewhere, right?
I remember I used to really love him on The Tudors, sad to see him struggling like that now. I hope he overcomes his problems and find some happiness
I was big fan of him since tudors and he was my favorite actor in Hollywood and he's still my favorite cuz no one like him he's just amazing me in every way
Give This Man An Oscar For His Tudor Performance.
I adore his performance in Tudors! Always will be remembered for that!!
Addiction is a lifetime health issue and I appreciate his struggle, his acceptance. It is like roller coaster and as a parent, it should be even harder.
Please keep up, do your best and pls don't waste your talent and most importantly your life!
He has only a boy.
I agree the Tudors is a
Masterpiece and he is amazing and absolutely stunning
I am watching the Tudors right now and had to search to see if he won best actor. He deserved it. OMG he is so good in this series. I also loved him in Match Point as well.
He looks nothing like I remember
He doesn’t look like King Henry anymore 😭
So what you won't look the same as you age either. Plus childhood trauma age the conscientious person more than the average fool
@@MissX33 i don't think you look the same for decades, and I'm not asking you to prove it, it's practically impossible to not age for decades and look the same but that's your defense mechanism to help you feel better. You can't self analyze properly no one can do it accurately. You need 3 confirmations from 3 honest, true and neutral judges to tell you the truth on this Earth. Maybe you look younger than your chronological age , I have no idea if that's the case or not, but you can't look the same unaged for decades. It's impossible. God didn't design us divinely to stop the aging process for us, but He can bless us with much health and fitness in old age.
He is is not the same anymore.
I LOVED him on The Tudors and I still LOVE him!♥️
He's so articulate and beautifully spoken in this interview. Keep on keeping on Johnny! Kinda disgusted with the overwhelming negativity in this comments section. We all know he's struggled with drink and drugs. I want to believe he's facing his demons and trying his best. I hope he looks after himself.
Well said on all! I thought the same thing!
People are so cruel towards people who struggle with addiction. It literally broke my heart when I looked into him and found out he struggles with addiction. I hope he can find his way through it like Robert Downey Jr did.
@@MissX33 - In certain context, saying 'drink,' people know what you mean.
Barely recognize him
plastic surgery, booze and drugs.
MMAFighter38 what has he done ?
lex t it looks like filler or Botox
Deer Heart his eyes look different
MMAFighter38 he looks totally weird shame he would have aged perfectly fine I am sure
Unbelievably great actor.
He still is a great actor, i don't care how he looks, all people change with the time, some better than others.
SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED TO HIS FACE 😭
drugs
DRUGS AND BOOZE
There's not enough make up to hide his pain and alcoholism.
Unicorn Teardrop or drug usage ( cocaine)
still handsome man
He's a nice man. So many people struggle with addictions and hard to quit habits.
The guy had a bad day. Leave him alone. Was incredible in the Tudors. Bravo for your talent and your humbleness
I like this guy! I hope he can get himself back on track!
same
Whoever did his make-up made him look like he has jaundice
he's putting on an act while explaining himself here
you can tell by his face
the loss of his mother pushed him over the edge.
and his wife's miscarriage did it again
Ughhh , life imitating art..... Just like Elvis which he played pretty awesomely.
He's in DEEP denial
Agree.
how is he? he openly admitted that he struggles with alcohol.
He's admitted his mistakes and is facing his demons. He's stopped drink and drugs. It must be so hard. What is he in denial about?
Judgmental much?
Oh Jonny Jonny , what have you done to yourself 😢🤷♀️⁉️
Sue Smith he looks like shit and his behavior is obnoxious
L A affects u if u live there .......
Drugs
Correction *What has life done to you? His mom died and he fell apart.
That is not Johnathan. His accent is completely different. He never used to speak like that. really odd.
That's what I said. His Irish accent sounds so different
For some people to admit that they are powerless over alcohol and that they are in fact an alcoholic, is sadly near impossible. Often their ego will be an incredible scaffold in their denial. It’s so sad. I’ve lost many friends who simply couldn’t admit that they were an alcoholic (Step 1) and on their final view days of life and still drinking, having watched them destroy themselves, every one around them, their loved ones, careers etc etc they are still in a state of huge denial. It’s a bastard of an illness. I’m so lucky to have found recovery and every day I am hugely grateful to be alive. He’s a wonderful Actor, I hope he gets sober soon and discovers the gifts of living a sober life.
i didn't know he was irish and i can tell you this.. if the cops are waiting at an airport the incident wasn't " I ltook out an e-cigarette and they told me to put it away so I did"
I love how honest he’s about it
What wrong with his. Face
That's what happens when you get really flushed while wearing the wrong kind of foundation, lol.
I don't know if he's dramatically understanding the event, but this sounds like a non-issue.
This is a very nice guy. He's been hurt all of his life. Deep crippling wounds he has overcome. Be kind to this wounded soldier. He has a sweet soul. Awesome acting gift. He feels emotions deeply..he is very soft hearted.
Cheryl Daniels He's an ass.
He’s an artist.....they ARE sensitive.
He's beautiful
He's in such denial. They gave his tickets away, the baby was teething-so many excuses. One drink? Yeah right.
I could not recognize him. he used to be so hot and handsome
Yap Gim Kwee Before HD cameras
That's rude so you like him because of his looks , He will always be a good actor no matter what he looks like.
It’s normal to age
He still looks great although too much makeup...men age better than woman (as they say)
@@lcard9516 yeah, but he's 42 and he looks 52, he definitely hasn't taken care of himself.
@ 2:00 you can just feel the love in the air whenever he interacted with those asking questions lol😅
HE LOOKS HORRIBLE!!! drugs! alcohol!!!! plus FIRE YOUR MAKEUP ARTIST IMMEDIATELY!
He’s an actor and he’s acting all the way through this
love how he speaks so gently :)
Ha ha ha. I read a slightly different account from some people in first class. I heard he was out of his fucking mind drunk. LOL
I just watched all the clips of this interview and he seems to be a deeply troubled man who's trying desperately hard to overcome certain demons. That said, whilst it appears he's currently winning at life, he also comes across as hugely false, overly composed and very patronising.
you described the situation perfectly.
Not making any excuses for any bad habits. I smoke and vape as well. Good on him❤
I love this man's acting and I will say my hope for him is that no matter how many stints in rehab never give up. You deserve sobriety and the only failure is to give up trying and to ever feel ashamed of any failure. If you think of how many times people that are highly successful fail before they actually succeed it puts things in perspective. Great artist bring so much joy through their talent and work to us. I pray this man finds continued sobriety and peace
Umm... why didn’t he address hurling the nword?
Clearly he thinks it's okay to be racist for him not to think it was worth mentioning AND APOLOGIZING FOR😡
He was drunk. Turn the page. And I'm a blk woman
depends on how you define "sober for a long time", showman with the white vest...JRM you are certainly a great actor ! All I wish for you is a wake-up call once and for all.
How very judgemental of you. The use or non-use of the word "alcoholic" does not alter the fact that he has alcohol abuse disorder and he knows it. Many people around him are also aware.
"Alcoholic" is an antiquated term that is no longer used in the DSM-V to define the physical and psychological condition of being addicted to ethanol / having an ethanol intolerance. It is also likely that he has a dual diagnosis, meaning that he suffers from depression, anxiety, or another condition that he self-medicates with alcohol.
What happened to his face?! Unrecognizable
Drugs,smoking,alcohol...
“I shouldn’t drink. It doesn’t suit me.” No, he shouldn’t.
Alcoholics and addicts should not take one single drink or do any type of drugs. I’m happy he got help again.
Easy for you to say. You're not an addict
@@Harry-bn5mp dafuq? nothing in the original comment was an insult. chill out
Remember always and forever to listen to the music all around.
He is a super cool guy with the same kind of problems everyone faces everyday so cool
He has changed soo dramatically ((
THAT is Jonathan Rhys Meyers??!!! What??
Yes that's him
Seems like a good Father and husband...most parents don't own their character defects....Mr. Meyers humbles himself by being honest.
I'm mourning the loss of his beauty right now tbh
He is a marvelous actor and very handsome too !! From Portugal with love ❤️ !!
Jonathan always had way too many accents.... He always spoke without a break.... He always gave great performances... He always will be loved as he is a phenomanal actor which is where we know him, in the first place.
He looks bad i hope he gets it together
Has he had a face lift ??? Wtf has he done
U.S. doesn´t seem to be the best Country for him.modern haircut but he´s looking kinda weird for my taste...like Barbie Ken.
This guy doesn't need to explain himself to media clowns,
I think this man is astonishingly handsome and incredibly talented. His range can transform him into any character you want him to be on screen.
However, I do hope he finds the help he needs to fight his demons. He tap-danced around calling himself an alcoholic. He selected his words carefully to avoid saying that basic statement: "I shouldn't drink because I am an alcoholic." He just couldn't bring himself to admit that out loud, and perhaps that's because saying it out loud might make it too real for him. Perhaps he doesn't believe he has a problem. Some people genuinely believe, as long as they are employed/employable, and paying their bills, then their drinking is 'not so bad'. The sad truth Mr. Rhys Meyers is that you cannot fix what you don't acknowledge. If your alcohol consumption has caused turmoil in your relationships with others, and your life, that makes it a problem you no longer have control over.
Saying "I shouldn't drink", is not the same as saying: "I am am alcoholic. I have a drinking problem. I don't know when to stop, and when I consume too much, I become an angry drunk." Those are harsh truths to admit to ourself. I know.
Your response sounded very scripted. I get it: airline snafu, teething baby, long day of travel... We get it.
But none of that negates the fact that you had a drink or 2 or 3 or 5, because you are an alcoholic. Your wife was asleep (per your own statements), so perhaps you thought you could have the alcohol without her knowing, but when you behaved the way you did, your alcohol consumption needs to be addressed. Wishing you well. You are a great talent.
This is so sad, not him, but people commenting insulting him for things a lot of people struggle with. People are upset that he’s not hot anymore, well guess what idiots, life happens and sometimes you end up in a bad place. Insulting someone for having problems is so...low. No wonder he’s going through things.
A someone kind in the internet ! Finally !
Dude he was so handsome when he played Tudor. He wasn't a good actor but he was easy on the eyes.
I was really shocked when I saw him on the thumbnail! His face changed a lot...I wish him well
SORRY THAT THIS IS SUCH A HUGE COMMENT BUT IT COMES FROM THE HEART: I don´t know if I have the right to say this because I don´t know Jonathan Reys Meyers in person. But I do know that I am sincerely interested in an artists soul and thinking. I´ve always wanted to see the PERSON BEHIND THE ART- be it a musician or an actor or whatever artist. It´s not about gossip. It interests me what spirit is behind the art. Sometimes it is so sad and destructive, sometimes it´s enlightening and healing. But really often you seem to find out that those highly creative people are deeply troubled souls. Maybe that is why they are able to create what they do? I´ve had this genuine interest since I am a teenager and I am married to an artist now. I may be wrong but I think that there is nothing more personal than showing the world YOUR art because it comes from deep within yourself. Again I might be wrong to say that when we "CONSUME" movies, music or whatever art there is out there we are not aware of how VULNERABLE those artists are who made this. The film and the music industry is extremely rough. The business representatives of the companies see the money and if it was successful or not but they seem to forget that this is not only "a business" for a true artists soul. With every role they play, with every song they produce they give the world a piece of their soul IF THERE ARE GENUINE INTENTIONS BEHIND IT. IT ISN´T LIKE A BUSINESS PRODUCT THAT SUCCEEDS OR FAILS. To them it is much more than that and it is much more personal. No wonder why so many artists are totally screwed up. How many of them eventually die by abusing substances or killing themselves? It is so hard to deal with the world consuming your art however they want- sometimes YOU are the huge SUCCESS and the next day YOU are a huge FLOP. I think that this is how most artists see it: It is not the product. It becomes PERSONAL and this is so hard to deal with. In addition I think many artists deal with depression or manic depressive disorder. One knows that this is often a reason for alcoholism. But it is still a tabu to talk about it. WE OFTEN TALK ABOUT IT WHEN IT´S TOO LATE- then we are so sad and shocked..... Robin Williams is just one of the many victims of depression. I am not trying to say that Jonathan Reys Meyers is depressive. I don´t know him. I am trying to say that there are often many rough circumstances for artists to deal with.
I came across Jonathan Reys Meyers some time ago and I wanted to know a little more about this ARTIST. I am not saying that any of this is correct because it is only my feeling, my impression about him but I am saying it with A GENUINE AND DEEP RESPECT for him as a HUMAN BEING and also HIS FAMILY. This man has a wife who has to deal with this and a son, brothers and friends. Just because they are famous, they are not out there to be discussed like objects. THEY ARE HUMAN AND THEY HAVE FEELINGS LIKE WE DO TOO!! Think of some of those comments on the internet from this perspective. And please don´t say now that this is the price for being famous. THOSE WHO CHOSE TO MAKE SUCH COMMENTS ARE THE ONES WHO MAKE IT THE PRICE FOR BEING FAMOUS. It doesn´t have to be that way! IT IS OUR CHOICE HOW WE TREAT FAMOUS PEOPLE: AS HUMANS OR OUR OBJECTS.
Regarding Jonathan Reys Meyers: When you first see him- I think most see an exceptionally good looking man. But it doesn´t seem like pure beauty to me. There is alot of sexual energy to his looks. I also suppose for some men (!!!). This seems to be a blessing or curse at the same time because it is harder for him to be seen as the excellent actor that he is. To many he is an object of their phantasy and it is about his looks. This is certainly nice in some ways but I don´t know if it is so good for the soul if people are so attracted by your looks. Also people expect you to keep that looks all the time. But it´s impossible to keep the looks and the sexual vibes of a young man. You get older, life shapes you and your looks and vibes change. No plastic surgeon, no fitness studio can give anyone the vibes of youth. That´s not negative but if you read the comments here you might think so. Jonathan Reys Meyers is over 40 years old and he is still very good looking. My God- he became older. We all do.There is only one choice- either you die young like James Dean or you grow older and begin to see the beauty of age and experience. No wonder he looks a bit skinny- knowing what he has to go trough after his relapse had become public. And please get over the makeup artist. He or she used the wrong color of foundation for this TV interview. So be it. THIS MAN IS STRUGGLING WITH SERIOUS ISSUES that might cost his career and eventually his life and soul if he doesn´t find a way to fight it properly and THIS IS HOW WE SUPPORT HIM? WITH COMMENTS ABOUT BAD FOUNDATION and whether he still looks good or not? I bet that the pressure that we expect him to stay young, good looking and sexy as we want to see him and all those comments about that also make it hard for him to stay sober. I have alot of issues myself but I am not keen on alcohol but if I read all those comments and this was me, I´d probably like a drink myself. To me Jonathan Reys Meyers always seemed extremely vulnerable and behind his intellectual talk and proper language (which I like by the way because you understand him well- I wouldn´t if he spoke Irish) and his very serious answers there seems to be a man STRUGGLING WITH ANGER AND DEEP EMOTIONAL WOUNDS- maybe also wanting his true artistic talent to be seen. I think he is an excellent actor and I love his love for music. He comes across as likeable person.....No wonder he is uncomfortable: You have to talk to the whole world about your alcohol problem (something deeply personal and surely shameful- or would you like to speak about this on TV?) and we discuss if he is still good looking. I am sure the world can support Jonathan Reys Meyers to stay sober BY SHOWING HIM RESPECT AND TRUE LOVE. I am not talking about fake compliments. THE INTERNET COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD shouldn´t be shocked when another star dies of an overdose or killed himself. There are often signs long before that happens. At THAT POINT we can support them and show them love and respect. Here is a sign of a struggling human being: HEY, JONATHAN REYS MEYERS, I wish YOU would read this: WE ALL HAVE OUR PROBLEMS. NONE OF US IS PERFECT. I always want to be perfect but it makes me and you human that we aren´t. There is nothing to be ashamed of. The only one who should be ashamed and are the ones who contribute to his addiction by showing him disrespect in all kinds of ways. I wish Jonathan Reys Meyers and his family truly well. I wish that he frees himself from all the emotional burdens that make him unhappy. My feeling is that he has already suffered enough from his demons. I wish him and his family TRUE HAPPINESS AND SATISFACTION. I know this is is very hard in such a business driven industry and very hard when being a star and being the worlds object of all kinds of compensations and phantasies. I wish that he can become a thankful and happy man for the huge talent GOD (or whoever is responsible for that) gave him and separate from all the negativeness around him. I hope he can be a good man, father, husband and friend...
The alcohol has killed his looks. Damn.
Oh wow! He had an e cigarette and a drink. End of the world here. John, keep going strong mate. Still with ya here. Love from the Netherlands.
he is alcoholic, it was not a simple drink 😥
He has rage issues and he is abusive to those closest to him, especially the women in his life. This interview is nothing more than his acting abilities at their best.
I believe he has his demons but he's facing them. He's trying. That counts for a lot.
I remember watching this awhile ago, I was stunned by his appearance. Like with most things in life, I forgot about it. I'm watching one of his movies right now, Six Souls aka Shelter. Looking online to catch up on how he's doing I came across this gem and once again I was stunned. He's so good looking in the film, a 2010, and it's incredible to see the change. I hope he stays clean, goes to anger management (based upon other accounts) and gets his act together if not for himself, than his son, Wolf.
Ok Jonny is 41 ok not 141 years old🙄people I swear anyone past 30 is ancient to you guys! y’all think Jonny is as old as Santa Claus🎅🏻 😂😂😂😂why don’t you dudes check out Sean Connery!
Go Larry! Still kicking!
What happened to his accent?
Daniella Robins exactly !! He is Irish not from Westminster :)
I've seen other interviews where he says he stays in character even off set. So if he was filming at the time of this interview and his character had an American accent then there is the answer.
Lovely man. So well spoken. A slip can happen so easily with stress. Great teaching moment. Respect.
Wendy Knox-Leet abusive to his wife! Horrible addict! Wake up people
He's teaching you how to really ignore addiction as a problem that destroys you and everyone you love, that's so great?
Betty Santoro But he didn't address it, he said it doesn't agree with him. He wasn't sober either, his wife literally posted pictures of them drinking, partying it up days before this drama happened. I hope he realizes that he needs to be more honest with himself, admit he's a alcoholic and go to rehab. Divorce if his wife doesn't work out for his health but, at least a long, very long rehab stay, anything. He has to want help first and admit he needs it. Nobody improves that quickly in days just by talking to "someone". He just wanted to sweep it under a rug by the looks of it in that interview.
Betty Santoro really? Addressing it by lying? Give me a break
Marie Constance oh Yes, we will give you a break...take a looooong break please !
Jonathan , you are great! Love from Stockholm, Sweden
He’s gorgeous.
Ray mn He was
@@Rune8119 Still is.
Wtf happened to his face!!!! I'm shook!!
Drugs , orgías , alcohol ,
when will people stop saying that damn horrid phrase
I loved him as Dracula. The only actor in modern times that pulled it off. I always have been a super fan of Jonathan Rhys Meyers since Bend it like Beckham.
However watch him as dracula absolutely amazing as well as Tudors.
You can do it. I'll be praying for you and your family, sir.
He is a man with a big heart. Keep fighting Mr Meyers, dont lose the fight !
Arum Putri tell that to his son and other passengers
" daddy what is that in you're hand? " probably a scotch. This seems to be hiding something.
I like him, and sympathise
All you haters who are posting hate comments..you are ignorants...he had terrible times during all his life and he had alot of issues especially that he was targeted alot by the media...yes he got problems... everyone has problems....such an amazing...kind ...decent and phenonemous actor...i wish you all the best Jonathan!
Jamal Bashour Who's hating on him? It's not hating on him if it's the truth. Down playing what he is - a alcoholic, that won't help him. He needs help to fight it but, only he can do that. Of course he's a beautiful talented actor, phenomenal caring beautiful human being, but, his alcoholism will kill him, if he doesn't do anything but, shrug it off like no big deal and that he can get better in a couple days. That's unrealistic and it worries me but, again holistic treatments works wonders no? ... Sorry I do wish him the best, I'm hopeful he will.
This is why he lies and will continue lying
Jamal Bashour plenty of us have had terrible times in our lives. We don't turn into raving jackasses on airplanes. I do hope you'd defend one of your loved ones as intensely as you're defending an actor you don't even know.
yah lets coddle another poor wretch who couldnt get a grip
Jamal Bashour Boo-hoo. So have a lot of people, who don't act like entitled drunken, abusive, racist assholes.
He's lost so much weight. He looks bad. I pray for his healing.
He did a masterful job with the bishop character in vikings & he looked alot healthier recently, he comes off as such a gentleman & the facial hair suited him well.
Jonathan it won't be ok, until you get a divorce and rehab ( This time stick it out), period.
Unicorn Teardrop someone with brains
Nothing against his wife but, it's best to separate or divorce because, they always seem to be fighting all the time. This wasn't their first time being caught, many fights went "unreported" but it happened, even Mara quickly tried to cover one up with "rehearsal of lines"...ok 🙄. So, I'm sure that isn't healthy for any of them. Adds more fuel for Jonathan's disease of alcoholism.
Betty Santoro What's wrong with you not researching this man's history with his alcohol problem? They can raise their child perfectly fine separately in a better environment without the child watching his parents destroy each other and then put fake smiles about it.
Betty Santoro The only thing right about your rant that it's his choice to change his life and good for you staying with an alcoholic for 25yrs, that must have been so fun! I will judge Jonathan 990,000,000 times till next Sunday because, he did everything...now get this... PUBLICLY!! Agree or disagree. I watched my parents literally fight all my childhood because they decided to stay together for my sake. My sake turned out to be, me as adult, living with depression, anixety and attempted suicide. Jonathan's and Mara's actions will affect Wolf, it's up to them if they want to change that and divorce. Yes divorce! Imagine the horror! ...🙄
Betty Santoro The ones that get sober survive. The ones that just stay and decided not too, or like what Jonathan is doing, shurg it off as a "bad day", excuses after excuses, will damage themselves and their love ones. That damage will last forever. Forever. Peace out, taking my "anger issues" to good use. Have a good day, God Bless and let Jesus into your heart and He will heal you.
I think that he should portray Martian Manhunter in the DCEU.
Jon has been ravaged by alcohol ... sad.
He has got such a clear accent I can get everything he says.
gaydar is going off the charts
Jonathan Rhys Meyers shouldnt drink alcohol. His wife is right.
lovely Irish gentleman
he looks awful if not different. too bad he was on a roll
And I'm still big fan of him
He has not aged well...good lord
@Captain Brandon Punk & Horror Lover yah but common..he's hideous and was very very good looking
Sadly I fear he may not survive battling his demons:(
Dawny K he tried to kill himself not too long ago
Celebrities are just that they are not gods they are not aliens they are human just like us may god keep him clean I feel for him addiction is insidiou
Omg cut the poor lad some slack, y'all expecting him to look 25 forever GET A GRIP. For a 40 year old man with substance abuse issues, he's holding up pretty well - also, the bad lighting and awful foundation that doesn't match his skin tone AT ALL certainly don't help. He's aging, but he's still a beautiful man.
👏👏👏👏👏
Well said!! ❤️
Poor man
I love Jon Rhys Meyers. Like most (or at least many) people I remember him most from The Tudors and his tour de force performance but I also loved him in Velvet Goldmine. He is such a talent; I really wish to see him in some major roles in the future. He'd make a great Sith Lord I think, just an opinion! Or I'd love to see him as a Targaryen in House of the Dragon!
It's GOOD to be the king! sorry, just had to say it.
He’s such a great actor, I love him as King Henry VIII and Bishop Heahmond
Awesome talent. I don't get into celebrity personal lives so I don't know much else on him
If I don’t hear his voice, I almost don’t recognize him.
He looks like Barbara Palvin and Tom Hardy
