I've heard this story narrated before. No. Let me backup. I only THOUGHT I had heard this story narrated before. Nothing compares with what you bring to each and every story. You breathe life into them and give them dimension. The music and sounds of the tide at the end really added a poignant touch. Perfect! Thank you.
"What we saw was the track of a bare foot------and one that showed more bone than flesh." One of Montague's all time great lines...in a classic that brings us the concept of "Dim Presences" and yet another cursed object... a curse that can not be undone. Well done Mr Jasper !
@ Unlike HPL James has a very nuanced and subtle sense of horror. He never gets in your face, must be the British in him ! I actually have become something of a Montague scholar in my old age .. lol I have seen Lee’s renditions of M R James hes….well…. Christopher Lee !
I recently watched the 50 short movie of this produced by the BBC as part of their anthology of Supernatural stories. It was the second instalment of “A Ghost Story for Xmas “ and was first aired on Xmas eve 1972. It’s worth a look in my opinion. I think I cast it up from UA-cam to the telly from memory. A big thanks to Jasper the friendly ghost story teller who brings a stunning level of quality to his narrations. Simple the best.
@@WilliamTuckwell-r8b Loved that short film with the late great Peter Vaughan. The 70s horror stuff, always with the atonal music and the weird camera angles, really sticks in the mind. I was watching a 1974 BBC version of "The Withered Hand" the other week with my dear 89-year-old mum and it was still so creepy it gave her a nightmare 😄
Yes, they are wonderful and unique films. I’ll have to find “ The Withered Hand” . So great your Mum still got the creeps from watching it. There is so much rich fodder in the way of these largely forgotten stories that are ripe for making into films. It’d be great if more could be put into a “ Cabinet of Curiosities” or “ Black Mirror” type show.
Me too, it was on again on Talking Pictures channel. Quite different from the actual short story but chilling enough... having visited that area you do feel something...
Thank you Jasper! This is one of my very favourite M R James stories, what a treat to find your rendition popping up on my notifications just in time for bed 😺
Brilliant narration. I can 'go on' a bit about Monty James lol😂. Will just say - this is the best narration on YT of this one. Suitable faint praise 😂. Be warned this tale hits you over the back of the lug hole.
Horrorbabble will always be my home for horror, but that doesn't mean I can't salute a good narration from elsewhere. Great timbre and cadence, nice use of sound snippets. I think I'll be back.
This is a very wonderful and horrific tale. It never gets old. Your version is fantastic! The final scene below the battery, in the sand, shale, and stones, is a most horrific visual. This is a great horror story. I was trying to describe this story to someone about 10 days ago but forgot the title. I kept looking and looking and could not find the story. Thanks!! 5:31 - Awesome quote. I was howling in laughter!
@@EnCryptedHorror I should have been more effusive and said bloody good and worthy of (in better times) a BBC Christmas ghost story. The narration was perfect, the pacing excellent and the material (of course) superb. How's that for effusive :)
No disrespect to previous narrative iv heard by some, but this is as usual another level. Yourself and Edward french are easily the best. However i think your sound and music adds that much more. Love the piano music you use. Keep on creeping on!
