  • In less than 10 minutes, you can fix a bent or broken garage door hinge or wheel for under $20. The trick is to determine which hinge you need first because as you’re reading this, you now know there are four different depths of hinges.
The depth is simple. The ones at the bottom, have the wheel axil is real close to the door, and as the hinges go up, the wheel axil is spaced away from the door, and at the very top it could be 2 inches away.
Once you purchase the correct hinge and matching wheel, you can now in a matter of minutes, first place the door in the closed posts, undo the screws that hold the old hinge on the door and replace it, and save yourself a huge repair bill just by watching this video

The B'laster company makes an excellent spray can for overhead doors. It sprays really far, so you don't have to climb so high to lube everything.
Don't forget to spray the spring drum,,, when those get sticky you will have the cable jumping.

Hi. I was a garage door tech for a few years. The rollers sliding in and out of the hinge journal is actually by design. When you install a garage door the vertical tracks get installed in a slight outward angle away from the door towards the top end of the tracks. The reason for this is it spaces the cable drums a little further out so that the door panels dont grab the cable and tug at it while they go up and transition to the horizontal tracks. Had numerous service calls where new doors had been installed at new constuction homes and they didnt know what they did wrong and why the cables were slapping and catching the top of each panel. Its not such a big deal with 7ft doors depending on the tracks. If its a martin door they are a much better design and they assemble their tracks with a finger shield thats attached to the length of the vertical tracks. When they assemble them they angle the top so its already going to be where you want it to avoid cable grab. As far as being aware of it the taller the door the more potential it has for grabbing if the installer didnt know what they were doing and installed the tracks straight up and down. If i have left a vague description of this. Watch your cable drums on the torsion spring tube. Activate your door opener. Youll see as the cable winds up on the drum it travels more and more inward. If the tracks arent angled properly after a couple panels have gone up the cable will go inward enough to allow the panels to catch against it.
