I picked up this phone an paired with a HTC Vive Flow headset/glasses plus bluetooth gaming controller an included remote, getting around 12 hours of fun being completely mobile. Like what he mention this runs anything everything you throw at it even VR with the pair glasses. I’m very excited! where the mobile gaming is heading and to see what else coming to market in 2023. It's a freaking monster, and also it's build like the gods. Maybe it is, time will tell, but for now this phone is my favorite when it comes to any desktop performance. Maybe you can show if it can be used with desktop apps or maybe split apps in some way on the monitor. Thank you for the review!
Thank you for showcasing the other side of a Phone's capabilities! Would you do a round up of all the phones and compare their "Desktop" environment? At times I would think; these could almost replace a Chromebook.
Literally what is missing for smartphones to become pocket pcs is just having compatibility with Windows applications, there are some people making a port of Windows arm for Android and there is a pc emulator called exagear so if in the next few months or years they will improve even more you can be sure that your cell phone can become a pc at any time, because they already have plenty of power.
@@DavidHee the problem is not even the websites since if you put them in pc view mode they look the same as on a pc, what is missing for cell phones to become pocket pcs is for them to run programs that only have windows, the exagear (pc emulator for android) already manages to run several games and programs on it, using only 30% of the gpu of cell phones and with poor compatibility, when it evolves even more and has support for 64-bit programs and games, here we go even pocket pc.

The console mode looks pretty awesome. I use something called scrcpy (it mirrors your screen using adb, wireless works too) and the weird aspect ratio is annoying.

Honestly, this kind of smartphone is a match for Nreal AR glasses, basically switch that monitor with OLED sunnies and you can play any contents/emulator anywhere
I wish they'd bring back the laptop dock but for, well we'll say most, phone instead of just the one... Talking about the accessory for the Motorola Atrix 4G. It was a laptop form factor that the phone docked onto and it included a battery with a screen and keyboard w/ track pad. Docking the phone to it enabled a desktop mode.

You should get the Windows 11 ARM Dev Kit 2023 from Microsoft ...w/the SD8cx Gen3, aka, Volterra, hooked up as a mini PC to see what it can do. It has 2x USB3.2 Gen2 Ports, plus USB3 type A ports, mini dpi; it has a custom MS x86 conversion layer built in... It runs DX12. It will play Android via WSSA & Linux via WSSL...(?) 32Gb LPDDR4X, 500Gb NVMe. It's relatively inexpensive (less than the phone in this video) & is about the size of the original Shield TV; it might be cool to see what it can do with an external GPU.

I'd prefer 120Hz and better battery life anyday, more than that is a gimmick just like quad HD...
Mapping "buttons" on Android is pointless if they are too incompetent to turn off the stupid touch overlay, I'd rather just not play games at all than have the screen littered with that crap.
I was so happy when I saw the Xperia series with 8 gen 1 chips and damn this is awesome, but I think I'd still go Sony for the Micro SD, front facing speakers and no notch or hole punch. This is an impressive phone though and I doubt I'd give it back if someone said "here, take it".

If they'd only given the Razer Edge the ability to make phone calls. It has a mobile data (which means it has a modem) and the controller is removable, so theoretically you could've use it as a big phone if Razer hadn't locked it down.
Unbelievable. In just one year from SD gen 1 to get 2, we are at 4x full speed on PS2. would it be possible to test out some sports games? That's something most of the UA-camrs don't do. NFL Street, NBA Street, and earlier Madden games struggled on my Tab S8. Would it be possible to test those games out? NFL Street in particular. I modded a PS2 just so I could play these games console style but this is a game changer if they'll run on this phone at better than native resolution! wow!
Unless you have a particular reason to play an early Madden, try "ESPN NFL 2K5" instead. I have an SD845 phone and it runs flawlessly on it at 2X resolution if you set the EE Cycle Rate to -1 and the EE Cycle Skip to 2. I also disabled Hardware Downloads; but I don't remember why. I could probably find a more efficient configuration if I tried, but, it's legitimately excellent as is. Note: when you first start a game it will run like garbage for the first 45 seconds until you get a pop-up saying "Vram is full". Then you shouldn't see it again for the rest of your gameplay session unless you reconfigure AetherSX2 settings.
I always wonder how long phones like this one are supported. Their website doesn't seem to say how long it'll continue to receive updates, and after it stops receiving updates, I imagine it might be hard to find a custom ROM for it unless you roll your own. Totally speculation on my part though.

I'm old enough to remember that one of Sony's selling points for the PS2 was that it was both the best game console and the best DVD player on the market, for the price of a meh quality DVD player. If we're paying so much money for these phones, give us the flexibility to use it to replace multiple devices and then it becomes worth the money.

Haha, recent the hype of handheld gaming had definitely made a noticeable impact not only on gaming consoles era, but the phone & computing era as well ... until they consider combining these functionalities, or some might add why are you naming these types, the lines are blurring, which is a true statement. This is an interesting trend to see, as a consumer, I pay for a phone and I got a phone + gaming console seems like a good deal; however, when a certain thing try to do a lot of things in one, it'll be hardly good either one.
Shame that the only advancements in mobile tech is screen and cpu last two years, we seriously need a breakthrough in battery tech, also end user/consumer cost reduction by chilling out until battery tech catches up and limit the failed component QA levels and seriously why still no removable battery.....

Mantis says it supports both gamepad and keyboard mapping. The other big mapping app is Octopus; but, unless things have changed recently they only support gamepads.
Its got the same hardware as S23 ultra, but is it better? The S23 ultra has that unbeatable camera. Can S23 get console mode or can you use DeX to get similar feature?
Now we just need more games added to the play like old releases of Xbox and ps4 games and maybe even Nintendo switch games which seems more internally possible

the Red Magic 8 Pro not Plus costs USD$1300(16/512) in Indonesia... if you really want to play games its better to get a gaming laptop lol. and fyi for USD$1300 you can get the ROG Strix G15 G513RC which comes with Ryzen 7,8GB DDR5,512GB SSD and RTX 3050... the RM 8 Pro Plus version can get you the exact ROG laptop but with 16GB of RAM... and not to forget if the Red Magic gets damaged you cant repair it here in Indonesia,whereas the laptop has 2 years of warranty xD

this desktop mode of game space for mouse and keyboard is good, BUT... for joypad..... very bad. some command work on second screen, and some on phone. really dont to play with joypad. waiting for future updates for fix in redmagic 7
Personally I hate that you have to connect it to a PC to cast with USB. I'm not trying to be at my computer when I play my phone so it's really useless for most people. I really don't understand why they made it this way but it's really dumb that I can't cast to my $800 TV using my $800 phone without a computer

Yeah I’ve noticed some older chips emulate better than this chip with the newest official dolphin website build
It's because the processor itself is still quite new, lack optimization and updates. Give it 3-6 months

There's the NexDock as the closest thing. Motorola, Samsung and Huawei have desktop modes that work with it.

Emulation gaming will continue to be a factor in mobile gaming 100 million plus for sure
when you try out AetherSX2 please enable the wide screen patch so that we can get an idea how it performs on full screen without black bars

It already has enough internal active cooling to lock the soc at max boost clocks forever. I'm not sure if more cooling will be better.
Motorola has this desktop and gaming mod since 2017, called ReadyFor, I'm always using this feature in my Motorola edge 20.
Using this phones console mode with a Uperfect or a Nexdock seems like it would be awesome to try out if you're on the go!!

Nascar Thunder 2004 is a tough one to run, was getting around 50fps on my S20+ but I imagine it would run flawlessly on this, even with upscaling.

the Red Magic 8 Pro not Plus costs USD$1300(16/512) in Indonesia... if you really want to play games its better to get a gaming laptop lol. and fyi for USD$1300 you can get the ROG Strix G15 G513RC which comes with Ryzen 7,8GB DDR5,512GB SSD and RTX 3050... the RM 8 Pro Plus version can get you the exact ROG laptop but with 16GB of RAM... and not to forget if the Red Magic gets damaged you cant repair it here in Indonesia,whereas the laptop has 2 years of warranty xD

The 8 gen 2 is as powerful as a gtx 1050ti so why isn't it in hand held pcs running windows at much lower tdp?
this desktop mode of game space for mouse and keyboard is good, BUT... for joypad..... very bad. some command work on second screen, and some on phone. really dont to play with joypad.

Personally I hate that you have to connect it to a PC to cast with USB. I'm not trying to be at my computer when I play my phone so it's really useless for most people. I really don't understand why they made it this way but it's really dumb that I can't cast to my $800 TV using my $800 phone without a computer
