Date code (27th week of 2020). Your bag probably has the IR chip since it's newer. I had the same concerns as you regarding the shoulder straps, but it has held up well after numerous travels on planes while under the seat, overhead compartments, uber/lyft trunks, airport / cruise ship security belts, etc... No issues, rips, scratches or tears to report. Leather shoulder straps would have been ideal, but...... Enjoy.
