- May 2021 we visit Detectorists filming locations in Framingham and associated areas whilst on holiday in Polstead. I made this video for my memories because I’m a huge fan of the show, I make no apologies for the length of the film and I’m sure if you enjoy the show you’ll understand. Here’s a revisit in 2023 with new locations!

This is brilliant. I am on my fourth time round.But fifty times?, That gives me something to aim at!. I honestly believe anybody stressed in their life could benefit from being prescribed to watch detectorists. Calming, whimsical, understated, beautifully written and acted. And what a theme tune!
Absolutely! It’s my all time favourite show, really looking forward to the new episode over Christmas 😊
I'm on series 3 saving it for Xmas 23 as nothing will be on will it....but will I make it stretch?! Absolutely loving6thisis mentally calming u just forget about everything sheer bliss.... More please there has to be more 😢
Great video; we love the show too. Good job you went when you did as some things have changed since then. 1) The Lemon Tree cafe is renamed and is now a posh restaurant. 2) The trees in the church yard (including the tree Andy hid behind) were chopped down after the brick wall collapsed (the council believed the tree roots caused it) 3) The electrical shop has closed (the owner retired after 42 years in business) 4) The scout hut has been replaced by a modern (and lifeless) building. Oh, and one other thing: Lance's flat is currently up for sale!!!!

Discovered Detectorists in 2023 so I'm way behind on all of this. Wanted to say though that this video is still great for new fans and I'll probably watch it over. Its really useful and informative and I'll probably go to one or two of the places you visited knowing now they're close together and easy to get around. Thanks for putting it on UA-cam guys great work

I now live in Mansfield, Ohio. Loads of people come round to see all the spots in Shawshank Redemption. Suppose they have the same round 'Danebury'.

I can’t even remember what the “woof” is? But no sadly no sign of Russ or Hugh at night and nobody “caught her death”😂

Ahh the lab! Stayed in the van for a lot of the vlog (sadly no longer with us) very wobbly legs for much walking and yes 2 dogs but now just 1 unfortunately

This randomly came up on my feed and to say I was delighted is an understatement. I absolutely adore the Detectorists. If anything, the vid was not long enough and what a stunning area that is. I did notice some movement in the bushes on occassion and can only conclude Simon and Garfunkel had you under surveillance? Nice job.

I discovered this show three days ago and iI’ve watched it completely through once and started it for the second time. I am in the US and had never heard of it but my daughter found it and sent me a link since my husband is a dectorist aka relic hunter. I am really enjoyed seeing the actual little town. I am amazed that everything is so close and so small. The streets look much wider on the television. I love that you are such a huge fan and I’ve watched it so many times. Your enthusiasm is wonderful.

Wonderful. I only just finished watching the whole lot again on DVD. It is such a quaint and laid back show. It's great to watch and the writing and acting is first class. Really surprised how near to each other the locations are in the village. Also how Andy's hiding tree is only a stones throw from the lemon tree restaurant. Fancy the other locations being forty miles away. I expected you to pass Andy, as he worked killing weeds with just water along the roadside. Brilliant series. Hear Mackenzie might be up for filming a fourth season yet. Cheers 😁
Ahhh yes we love the show, I’m hearing he may indeed revisit for s4 I’m unsure if it’s a good thing or not, it was so perfect as is I’d be tempted to leave it be. But I won’t say no if he does revisit 👍 we loved visiting the locations and documenting them here. Thanks for watching 🏴☠️
Just discovered this show and have binge watched the entire series and now on round two. As an expat, I love the incredible characters-smart, curious, quirky, genuine, authentic, intriguing, hilarious, empathic-real humans with all the foibles, hopes and dreams. Incredible show, cast, filming locations, has it all. Thanks for this-great to see the quaint villages-I miss that about England. Emigrated with family when just a teen- but miss all the countryside, wildlife, British shows, especially history and mystery. Loved the Detectorists. We have a young country in Canada with little to pick up through metal detection. Our oldest history Is Indigenous culture, mostly items made from wood and pottery as well as villages to unearth. Most is oral storytelling and narrative- but incredibly important to our Canadian culture. Lisa, Canada ❤️

Looks like you were not far from the cottage they bought on Woodbridge Road? The shepherds hut, just caught in the distance on your video, is very similar in build.
Not sure on the cottage, the shepherds hut was sort of the excuse we were using if we got caught as it’s a wedding venue we were going to say we were checking it out for a friend 🤣
Lovely video! I’ve been bingeing the show over the last few days and I’m absolutely besotted. Been looking for somewhere cute to go and do some writing, might double it up as a nosey at the set and try here. Do you know if there’s a train station nearby?

It’s easy to reach Framlingham Castle by rail. Hop on a train to Wickham Market, which is served by Greater Anglia services from Ipswich and Lowestoft.

Excellent. The tree! Great series. Me and Bri also enjoyed watching The Detectorists, but I take it you’ve watched it a few times to recall all that detail. As for Framlingham Castle that has its own recent claim to fame through Ed Sheehan’s song ‘Castle on the Hill’. All the best to you both and I hope Rick’s got his voice back!

Sorted out the pump intermittent fault by cleaning the filter. The filter cap was also loose 😂

Thank you for filming this. I really enjoyed seeing a real view of the town, and not a cinema view. I was waiting for a trampoline to come rolling by when you were in the field. The DMDC even had the finds table in it. It looks the same. Pretty cool

Really awesome to see not just the locations itself but also the surrounding areas. Good job! As a metaldetector (sorry, metaldetectorist) myself I love the TV show. Have to watch at least once a year.

@@RickandHeather Yes, looking forward to it, though hope it'll be on TV here in the Netherlands. We do have BBC but it is altered for dutch market (subtitles, dutch commercials) and don't know if the programming is the same as in the UK.
Hope to visit Framlingham and some of the other sites myself also some day. Last visit to the UK was well before the TV-series. Thanks again!

This is a lovely insight into all the main locations. Whoever found them for the production company did a superb job in finding so many locations in one village. Thank you for the video, it is very interesting as I am a great fan of the Detectorists.

Look on Street View and the Scout Hut still visible, but on Google Earth normal satellite view, gone being converted to housing estate. How very sad, hope Scouts got a new hut out of the sale somewhere.
It’s not houses, it’s a new community room.
Oh good news, Scouts should still have somewhere to go. Plus could be used in new filming if a new series appears.
so i watched the second video first which is confusing because the scout hut is now replaced and andys tree has been cut down but it all makes sense when i tried to find the locations on google makes so thanks for all the hard work you have done thanks i will visit now

I absolutely love this series. This area is on my work patch and get to drive round here on a regular basis. It's lovely country. Ideal for the series. Very lucky to live and work in such a lovely area. Ps your motor home is obviously loving our 'crunchy' Suffolk roads!

Enjoyed watching your video. My wife and I were supporting artists in series 2 of Detectorists and we'd never heard of it before we went for filming but we were hooked on it after that. It was interesting seeing the locations again where we spent many hours with the rest of the cast.

Nice walk around my home town and surrounding area and lovely video. Well done
Becky’s mums house was only about a 1 minute drive where you parked in town and the train station was actually Saxmundham station that you was very close to.
Always wondered why the castle didn’t feature. Perhaps it was an issue of sorts with English Heritage. It does have lots of history and where Mary Tudor was proclaimed first queen of England
I’m going back in May to do a few more locations, I’m guessing the castle didn’t feature because the fictional area was decided not to have one? Does seem strange.
@Rick and Heather - Pearl The CV20 hope you enjoy the trip back. You won't recognise the scout hall now. Completely refurbished and I wondered if that was the reference to the scout hall being refurbished in the latest special. The "scout hut" is actually a community hall. The actual Fram scout hut is around the corner in Badingham Road.
The Crown Hotel in town is where the cast stayed when filming.
I was lucky to have had a chat with Mackenzie in the Station pub while filming the Christmas special. He was in there with Toby. Really lovely humble guy. He was in the Crown having breakfast the next morning when I was in there with my wife for a coffee
@@Mikes_Travels yeah many people on the Detectorists Facebook group say he’s lovely which is always nice to hear, yes the community rooms I knew had been demolished they’ve been selling bits off to fans, also in the special you can see they’re actually standing at the corner by the Castle pub just up from St Michael’s and if you look carefully can see the fence around the new building.
I believe the interior was another local community room re dressed to look similar but it seems smaller on the tv.
@Agatha And Anything I think the interior was the Community room at Great Glemham. The money made from selling off bits of the old community room went towards the building costs of the new one 😊

Until I saw the detectorists I thought that Essex was less than desirable, now I want visit. Btw I think it was one of the best sitcoms ever. It had everything I look for in a programme, humour, compassion, empathy, beleivability and great acting by all. So much so that can't stand hearing let alone seeing Simon Farnaby as I hated his character so much (sorry Simon). It's up there with Doc Martin.
Just like the fictitious Wombles live fictitiously on the real life Wimbledon Common, unfortunately the fictitious DMDC don’t live in the real life Essex… The show is filmed in and around Suffolk, Danebury itself being totally fictional and is in fact Framlingham.

When travelling between Fram and Orford, you should try to stop-off in Saxmundham at the station, which was used as Henburystone Station.
We’re going back in May to do a few more 👍
Great video. It really felt like you captured some second hand magic of the show at times.
I've had plans to do something similar on our next trip to England, but it would have meant a serious detour as our end destination is always Plymouth where we have friiends living.
Now I sort of feel like I've done it already!
So the itinerary for the next trip will be Dover-Salisbury-Plymouth (I want to visit Old Sarum because of the Edward Rutherfurd novel).

Hi, great video, I had my van motd the other day in Framlingham and Lance's TR 7 was in the garage, it was sold for over £30000
That’s right Mackenzie Crook donated it to children in need and it was auctioned by Mathewsons (Bangers and Cash) someone local to Fram bought it.
So sad the village hall has been demolished :(

I'd like to know if they actually made any finds when they were filming the series?
Mackenzie actually found the hawking whistle used in the scene where the field goes back in time during a filming break but on set all detectors are turned off to stop distractions 👍

Enjoyed this video thanks! Does anyone know were the Open Mic was filmed? I know they use the Kings Head Orford, The Crown, Great Glemham, The White Lion, ufford, The Castle Inn and Railway Inn - Fram, but not sure which one was used for the Open Mic?

Highly unlikely I fear. The last special in 2022 was reported to be it, all the props including the car were sold off for charity
It’s strange how familiar it all is. On a more personal note, we emigrated a couple of years ago and when i’m asked if I miss anything of England, my answer is always the same. I still love the sights and sounds of these English villages. There are so many small things which simply dont exist where we now live. The church you walked past has a damp mossy pathway leading to it, surrounded by trees and birds singing. The row of massive chestnuts. The blackbird. All of that has a smell, a sight and a feel to it which doesn’t exist anywhere else. I miss English woodland. I think i’ll visit this year and spend more time just loitering .
I think it’s something we take for granted until we realise it’s not there, truly understand what you mean, England on a good day is pretty perfect 👍
@@RickandHeather I loved nothing more than spending days just hanging around the medieval villages in Sussex and Kent. Couldn’t get enough. There’s so much history going right back to flint and everything about them has a value of its own. I think, apart from adoring Toby Jones in anything he does and the evident absolute genious of the series itself, that this is the main reason I really enjoyed Detectorists. Thanks so much for making the effort to bring it all back to life for me.

I'm like you. I loved watching it. I've watched every episode 4 times over in the last 3 weeks. Brilliant acting by all the cast. Mackenzie Crook done a brilliant job writing and directing it. After watching it for the first time I ordered my Nokta makro Simplex detector. Had it 2 weeks now. Still got to go out on my first dig. I've read that they are making another series of it. Should be end of this year. Series 4
