This was the best defence of his friend Fatty arbunkle he could of done....pure genius...love the cut out holding up the bar...I've never watched buster before but will be watching more... apparently his snowshoes guitar gag was that good the 3 stooges used it,who I love❤️...but this had me giggling...
This movie is a roast of William S Hart. The previous year Fatty Arbuckle had his scandal and Buster Keaton publicly defended him even though the studio didn't want him to. Hart on the other hand threw accusations at Fatty even though they had never worked together or even met. Fatty wrote this script lampooning Hart's movies, then Keaton bought the script from Fatty and actually made it. Hart wouldn't talk to Keaton again for years. Must have hit the mark
A myth actually. Hart was well aquainted with Roscoe, and never openly stated that Arbuckle was guilty, but said that his guilt should be determined by the court and no hasty conclusions should be drawn; also he said several times that he himself did not believe in Roscoe's guilt. Mostly he was worried about himself and talked about how this story will hurt the film industry. In autobiography, Keaton says that this parody was a response to an artistic change in Hart's style - a love to cry in particular, which Keaton considered funny (he was a big fan of westerns, by the way).
Does anyone else think that isn't Sybil Seely playing the wife at the beginning and end? She doesn't really look like her, and there are no records from the time of the movie's release identifying her as the actress who played this role.

That's definitely not her!
sibyl is credited as being part of the cast. :)
There is NO Sybil Seely. It's a mistake in all the descriptions, Buster himself disproved it in an interview with George Pratt
