Imo it’s the sound. There was no experimenting going on with the music. When I hear his lyrics/sound, it’s not anything we haven’t heard/gotten from others in his genre before him (Gunna, Future, Young Thug etc).
The problem is/was that he didn’t bother experimenting. Nor did he ad additional layers of substance as an evolving individual. Yes, hearing tracks about flipping bricks, fast money and women are great “turn your brain off” music for just that. Vulnerability is a key point (imo) to progression as an artist. They (and I) want to know about the issues that are personal and difficult to speak about, that affect him outside of the stereotypical millionaire lifestyle.
That’s why when Gunna came back, he went straight to vulnerability and discussed exactly what plagued him with the YSL case. Are we privy to that info as fans? Absolutely not. But an artist willing to let their guards down from being famous, and essentially use their music as method of therapy, humanizes them to their fanbase.

I'm a Lil Baby fan and I do gotta say that his music hasn't been the same for a while now. Ever since I listened to his last album "It's Only Me" I knew something was off. It was a decent album but I was disappointed. "Voice of The Heros" was better than that. I wouldn't say he fell off but I will say he had a good run. That's really almost every artist in the game. Their streak of never missing, making hits, and being highly relevant can only last for so long.
When an artist is hungry and they work hard just to make it to the top as a main stream artist they get too comfortable when they do make it and then they music won't be how it use to be when they first started. They'll start sounding the same, they won't be as consistent, and they won't have much passion for music as they did when they started out. That's just how it go alot of times.
But as far as Lil Baby goes, I hope he can get his momentum back because I still like his music but I do understand what people are talking about. He didn't fall off. It's just not the same anymore and his music does sound the same alot because I don't think he tries to change it up. I just hope his upcoming album is better than the last.

Lil Baby music needs real substance, now more than ever. Despite him and NF being two completely different artists, the progression NF has gone through if you look into it is vast in comparison. I think we're at the point now where solely popularity and surface-level or substanceless music aren't as potent anymore as they used to be for some rappers.

    • @haechanfullsun65

Lil baby's problem is not only that he is failing to connect with fans because of his awkward personality, but he also does not have any real depth or substance in his newer music, he said that he has not been in the best mental space in his interview with yachty, but this actually can be a great opportunity for him to rap about how he has been feeling personally allowing him to drop an album which will be relatable to fans on an emotional level and display a level of vulnerability that he has been lacking.

As a real fan, it’s not just about cadence. Lil Baby's versatility is clear, especially in features. But his older tracks had more replay value because they were relatable. Right now, songs about incomprehensible luxury to the day to day person and names most people don’t care (ex. Mike Rubin, Wristwatch names) about aren’t hitting the same. Artists like Drake and Kendrick connect because they make their abnormal perspectives relatable. In my mind, I believe a Collab project might rekindle some of that hunger and piggybacking like The Voice of the Heroes. It aged well and Durk was able to match his energy with that project in his own way. Lil baby has always been hot with rap features and could use someone to match the energy and get back to that hunger of beating the odds. Although it’s easy to escape that mindset living a life of luxury
