Kristen Leontiou is the Lead singer for One Eskimo and because of the 2020 lockdown they were separated but their back together now playing & recording! 😊
@@ericlee6125 Is that true, I reached out like 2 years ago and things were "imminent" then...his sound is so amazing...but it seems like they dont' get going...
A lot of people don't know that One Eskimo is sampling Candi Staton "He Called Me Baby" or that it's Candi's vocals on the chorus. Yep that song is over 30 years old and just as good today as yesteryear.
TexasShopGirl74 That is right, in addition, Motown artist Candi is covering a song written and recorded by Country Legend Patsy Cline.in 1963. so the song "he called me Baby" is actually 52 years old.
Thanks to an episode of "Bones" I heard this song. Thanks to UA-cam for all the other artists with their renditions. Amy Helm, Nelson Elle and Lee Ann Womack also do this song phenomenally!
When I first heard this song, it was literally on the car radio from a great independent radio station. When the chorus comes in, I was like my God, this girl sounds like she's straight out of a 1970's soul time loop. And then when I looked up the song I was like, oh that make sense, they looped in Candi Staton from her 1971 song, He Called Me Baby... and I must say they brilliantly looped in her voice. She's unreal, but the guys deserve a lot of credit too. Very creative and well done!! Bravo to Candi and the guys!!
This is a song rooted in the Blues, Soul, and Motown. I have to say that, in my opinion, it is the BEST song of 2010! And yes, unlike the teen-ager hip-hop, rap, ghetto swill music (adored by narcisistic, subliterate twits who wear really BAGGY and SAGGY CLOWN pants) on the FM radio nowadays...This is truly a song for the ages...
I went to a show. One Eskimo, when this song came out. Small venue. The band was awesome and they hung out in lobby and talked with the guests. Portland Oregon
"does my love ever touch you..does my love ever reach you..it's never enough..why is it never enough.." 😢 those lines man! They resonate so deep...awesome song!
Listening it now on Bones rerun from 5/20/2010 episode “The Beginning in the End” I use to think that Booth was actually going to kiss Bones.. Great song for the season ending!! ❤❤
+Aspen Darling Things are already better. Go and live your fullest life possible. Your mom wants that for you even though I'm guessing she is unable to share it.
Have listened to this tons of times and can't get enough... acoustics... melody.... words. feelings... love it! Perfect.... and this was after listening to the original song. Beautiful how -- it's combined.
OMG I COULD LISTEN TO THIS ALL NIGHT LONG AND NEVER GET TIRED OF IT...AN AWESOME AND UNIQUE VERSION OF AN OLD SONG...IT'S BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVE IT! GO ONE ESKIMO!
@ickaickaicka: That woman is (82 yrs old as of Apr 2022) gospel/R&B/disco singer, Candi Staton, from her recording of 1961's country song, "He Called Me Baby All Night Long". One Eskimo wrote this song around it, in 2009. Genius!
I always liked this song, but now that I've seen all the other versions here on UA-cam, I have a whole new appreciation for this song! I love these guys and this song is magic!!
Wow this comment synchronicity, yes Bones(currently watching, again)reminded me of this song... but at first i only saw the original version but this the one i knew first.
Does s anyone know what the heck happened to the band? I did a search in depth and I couldn't find anything for like the lask 5 years...did they implode? I love their sound...Amazing and Candi....
The woman's name is Kandi Stanton, she did one R&B album in the late 60's or early 70's and the original song was about heartbreak. She the went on to do gospel only.
@Keri Chaotic: It was released & played on indie radio stations in 2009. The woman's voice is Candi Staton (gospel, R& B, disco singer), sampled from a song she recorded in 1971, written as a country music song, in 1961, entitled "He Called Me Baby All Night Long". Tdy, Candi is 82 yrs old (April 2022). Her memoir was published in 2016.
Freakin' FANTASTIC!!! Wonderful album too. And very cool video. This song has worked its way under my skin - can't stop hearing it in my brain. Get the album, people, it's terrific.
I Love This Version Of This Song So Much! ❤. Put’s A Whole New Twist On The Sound, So Good It Give’s Me Chill’s & Thrill’s! 😋. Patsy Cline did this song 59 years ago in 1963 it was awesome then & even better now! 😊
Heard this song on KFOG, san Francisco, a couple of weeks ago. Almost drove my car off the road - which is exactly what happened the first time I heard Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing" and Rickie Lee Jones "Chuck E's In Love" -- so that's a GOOD sign!
this tune goes to show you amidst all the crap out there today a good tune will hang on -- gives me hope for pop music--Marc Goodman plays this on sirrius spectrum--I've heard it a few times--think it'll be around for a while
This song is on 97.5 Santa Barbara about every half hour. Funny how it sticks in the brain --so much so -- I had to buy it from Amazon. Very nice voice
Heard this on WNWV in Cleveland 4/6/2010. A very powerful song which stirred my soul. I didn't want the song to end but when it did, I was spent and my heart ached for the presence of my wife who I love. Very moving. I set out to purchase this on Amazon the moment I got home.
I simply love every version of this song especially the acoustic. refreshing as cool lemonade on a hot summer day and pure and fresh as the flowers on a hill after a morning rain...
And the gentleman who wrote it, Harlan Howard, co-wrote I Fall to Pieces for Patsy too! He wrote many country hits including: "Heartaches by the Number" for Ray Price and "Busted" for Johnny Cash. What a talented guy!
I used to listen to this 15+ years ago on radio, maybe more, I'm getting old and lose track of time. I love it, it is one of those tunes that sticks in your mind when you hear it, it was never released in the UK as a single, why I do not know.
A special shoutout to Candi Staton for making the great 1978 hit “He Called Me Baby”...great vintage being music incorporated into modern music Listening in June 2021!
Bones (S05E22) brought me here! :) (A perfect song to describe and introduce Bones and Booth's relationship in season 5 - from Booth's point of view...)
my wife and I were best friends in high school but we had a period of distance afterwords, one day she texts me saying she met someone and i wound up being the therapist for all her woes. This song gets me, sitting there on the sidelines watching your love pass you by, eventually I grew a pair and stepped in. The rest is history.
What a damn shame that this band no longer records. It's some of the most beautiful and soulful music I've ever heard.

What happened to them?

It's 2024 almost 2025...still a groovy sound

The obvious talent of this group is in the simplicity and beauty of melody and words.
