There are a lot of apex legend performance and FPS optimization guides, this one is a bit different. Many people have tinkered with max fps and V-sync, but not many have really went further to minimize stuttering, FPS spikes, drops and input lag, all these things can be very important especially for those who want that competitive edge and become the apex predator.

PS4 hops from 30-60fps😂
That's quite interesting. Because two of my favourite content creators use 144Hz. I guess if your spending theoney for high refresh rate you probably know what you're foing
@@GalacticYuna controller players have to cap at 144 or they get alot of input lag. If those content creators on on the sticks that would be why they are 144

Apex has a problem with anisotropic filtering, even trilinear. Only happens in very heavy grass areas like in olympus. If you are using a monster of a graphic card, well, you will get a fps hit but not very noticeable, but for those hanging around 100 most of the time, turning the filtering to bilineal makes a huge difernece (it is the only ever game where i have found this diference). Literrally, from 50s fps in the grass areas to 80....
wow that is tottaly true it went from 70 to 90 fps when i put bilenear on

Btw. If you can't get the "Set up Gsync" option to show up, you may need a display port cable as Gsync apparently doesn't work over HDMI.
Important. Up.
@Nicholas Conundrum Ottr's tutorial? What's sus about it?
Don’t use g sync it’s creates more input lag surprised people don’t know this
@@Gygsd From what I've heard, the increase in input lag is so minor that the stable, tearless frames more than make up for it. Also heard that as long as you cap your game refresh rate below your monitor's, it doesn't add input lag at all.
Hey buddy. For some reason I can't enable 144hz on my monitor. I'm using a dvi to displayport cable that plugs in from my monitor to my gpu

This guy talking about bottoming out at 120 fps 😂😂😂😂 me sitting here happy when I stay above 30 fps
It so sad( i have dogshit pc, i5 3570 - gtx 750ti 1280x800. I barely have 60 fps and i feel how my pc limits my aim(( like i mean master, 4k 20k its not hard for me even on my setting with 60fps xdd (I'm not bragging, I'm just used to such a "torn laggy input lag" game), but sometimes i just cant kill my enemy cuz my tracking start suck on fps drops even on 1-2 frames (58 or 59 for example). 1 week ago i was with my friends in good computer club where were moster pc's, and i played apex on 240hz 240 fps. Daaaamn boiz its COMPLETELY whole different game, when you have that smooth in game process. I was feeling myself like neo from matrix I saw exactly how my enemies were moving and it was easy for me to track them, my tracking was on another level ngl.. i knew that i was more better player than i'am with my home pc, but... Unfortunately i have dogshit pc and it's limits me so bad. no fps drops on gibby ult or bangalore smoke or termite nade... That was just unbelievable for me in club, on every situation tracking was good with out input lag and etc etc. Sorry if i have grammar mistakes guys.
P.s i also feel sad when i realise, that sometimes i have to fight against 240fps predator monsters with my 58-60fps 😅😅😅
i have almost the same spec as yours ( i have gtx 1050ti ) and i dont know how 240 fps on 240hz monitor feels like. I'm a hardstuck D4 playing on 60hz monitor. i always wonder can i even hit master with 60 fps average and you answered my question xD
@@Parano1se to be honest, if u have 2 friends who playing apex, its very easy to get master (im playing always in fullstack). If u dont trust me, u can add me in steam and i show you everything. sorry this guide is so confusing. where do i get this rtss software? no links? extra software to get stable fps?

Thanks a lot. My fps is still at 110-150 but feels wayyy smoother than before. I have just felt this kind of lag in fps without the numbers of it changing. This just made it all go away
WARNING: This video is clickbait - My fps def dropped with these settings. Also you cant use gsync with borderless window mode as it causes major fps drop + screen tearing
you can disable shadows by changing "setting.csm_enabled" "1" in the videoconfig file to "0" and making the videoconfig read only in the properties :)
modifying graphic, is bannable i think? you basically have advantage in dark areas, bannable mod.
@@alwanammarzaki535 you aren't modifying anything that the game isn't providing, it's the same as the videoconfig that is provided to you but just some people don't know that it exists and can be changed, YES this wouldn't be allowed in tournaments and ALGS and all that but if you are a casual player that just plays pubs or ranked you are totally fine and nothing would happen to you :)

If you have Anisotropic filtering on with 8x, 16x the game looks so sharpened up, and on most of map it's pretty distracting specially on Olympus, I use 8x with Anisotropic on even tho people say its blurry, it's not that bad just imagine something like FXAA or Nvidia DLSS, that's what you call blurry stuff, All depends on your monitor and your likings ofc but Anisotropic with 8x is pretty good if you have mid pc
its confusing whether we need to write +fps max 0 or not if we are using RTS frame limit. do we do both or only RTS?
ive seen other yters say to leave it on unlimited in steam then use rts to cap it
Dude, this helped me SO MUCH! btw, I am no where near anyone's skill level here. i'm really bad at the game, BUT!!! seeing that smooth 120 FPS, and i don't see it going up nor down is a VERY BIG HELP. If I get to see someone jumping over me, the usual settings bumps the FPS to high to low, to high numbers. but now it's BUTTERY SMOOTH! Thank you so much Ottr !

Why don’t you change in game settings?
@@xenen9797 I believe setting the config to read only prevents it from being overwritten
@@Sam-ng7kd that is totally correct
Hey man! I did tons of testing with the videocfg and autoexec files. While you can change specific things like gamma (brightness) and shadows on/off, settings like those aren't specifically labeled, and are likely a combo of a bunch of other small settings.
I reccomend deleting the videocfg file contents, saving that, un-check read only, and set all the in game settings you want. Then close the game and copy the newly edited videocfg. Make changes that you know and are labeled like the gamma and turning off shadows, then save and check read-only.
Hope this helped! Lmk if you have any more questions!
You think 47 fps is shit?

Greet to all my ps4 bro's!!
Test if g-sync is good for you usually it is bad on high frames but bad frames its good
this may not make sense but when he used the sheild battery at the start how can you see the whole thing and how did he get it to move like that where it goes more up
u are talking about 120/200 fps i am trying to get consistant 70 to 80 fps 🥲
Np amount of code can make bad hardware good.
Depending on GPU you might want to either turn off anistropic filtering or setting it to 2x at most if you are running a higher texture budget.
Filtering higher resolution textures is taxing as all hell, so might want to turn it down for a bit more performance (this wasn't a problem in older games, but the more pixels per texture you are filtering the more it takes.. just saying).
Another thing that might be worth looking into is how stable frametimes affect recoil.. this might be completely anecdotal or down to placebo but i feel like capping your framerate properly via RTSS somehow makes recoil smoothing easier (i have 240+ fps regardless in any situation, but capping at my monitors 165hz refresh rate with RTSS somehow made this feel better overall).
Think this might be down to how recoil works as it uses frametime to interpolate toward the intended "push value" when you shoot.
Jesus loves you alot trust in His death 4 salvation and be saved from eternal hell
@@Fit4C jesus is fake
Capping your frames to 165, when you can push higher frames, just gives you more input delay.
@@Petrixxxxxxx Yeah but having too much frames over ur refresh rate is making the frame queue longer thus increasing input lag. So there a sweet spot of fps for each specific framerate.
anisotropic filtering is one of the settings that have a minimal impact on performance between turned off an 16x. I don't know what ancient device you should be running the game on to where AF would cost you even 1-2 frames, but at that point you have bigger issues than AF. It's not usually taxing at all. You might be confusing it with antialiasing which is hella taxing on GPUs.

Dear Ottr,
I am a seasoned apex vet with about 500hrs on controller early in the games life and more recently 1300+hrs on PC from season 9 until now. I am a small time twitch streamer that started in January after buying a whole new setup. For all the hours I've put in this game I always feel like I just am not as good as I should be, until following this guide. I LITERALLY did not know that although my monitor is 200hz, windows had been capping that to 60hz by default and thus apex has been capping my game to 60fps. I just got off a 8hr shift at my normal job and it's 3am for me now so usually my apex games at this time would be pretty mediocre as I'm tired as hell. Literally my first game after following this guide and now maintaining a steady 197fps instead of 60, I shredded through a pubs lobby like butter with the easiest 12 kill 2.5k dmg game of my life. The game feels smooth as butter and I genuinely think changing these settings was the missing piece in my apex career. Thank you for elevating my game and sincerely changing my life.

@SteliMan
Thanks I may try that!
All the best 👍🏽
@SteliMan ottr said this was fixed. I don't notice any frametime issues with rtss capped to 237 on my 240 monitor. I used to cap to 180 but stopped that a few months ago.
@@thomasraymond6146 not sure if @SteliMan is referencing micro stutters, but that issue has since been fixed for a few months now. I reccomend setting your fps and refresh rate in RTTS to match your screen refresh rate. Lowering it gives no advantage unless your hardware is struggling.

6:14 Interesting, it's pretty well documented from numerous sources that RTSS has more input lag, but more stable frametimes than engine FPS limits (and vice versa).
I'm basing this off of the original post, eitherway at the end of the day stable >>> faster

Hey pc master race i need yall help im a ps5 player but wanna switch to pc for a few games my budget is currently $1500 should i just build 1 or buy a pre built from walmart
If you want to do it fast get a pre built but if you want to know what’s happening with your PC when something goes wrong then I’d recommend building it yourself as you’ll know all the components and what they do. The only struggle of that is cable management after but you’ll be good lol
I dont have shader cache in my 3d settings for some reason
G-sync is amazing for those who struggle to hit their refresh rate, but if u can hit it consistently then having it off is prob more beneficial, either way personally I like to look at my frame times using RTSS and try to keep it linear for the best smoothness. If your fps is unstable jumping across 180 up to 300 you will have inconsistency in your inputs due to frame time variance. At the end of the day it is personal preference. Also if ur PC pulls 300 or 400+ fps on Apex u def don't need to worry about framtimes since the frame time variance is near or less than a few milliseconds that may not affect you. only downside of having a consistent frame time is for the times that u would normally exceed ur frame cap you would be missing out on newer info since the frame times are lower at a higher fps, I choose consistency over higher fps because I feel like it is better for muscle memory
When i activate g-sync does i Need to use fast sync aswell or I can let The vsync option off
I have the same concern. The only thing i can recommend you to either change is capping fps with Steam/origin command or using reflex ON or boost so it auto capps with gsync and vsync on; do not use RTSS (it adds significant input lag in order to provide perfect stability. With ingame cap its still super stable and you dont get like extra ~20ms of input lag dependly on your refresh rate. So in the end if you cant hit your monitors refresh rate or you can but you still prefer stability turn on Gsync + NVCP Vsync + Reflex On or Boost.
On the other hand if you can mantain your monitors refresh ALWAYS, and you can use motion blur reduction (ULMB or DyAc +) if your monitor suppor it( remeber you cant use MBR and VRR at the same time) consider using it as it makes your image so much clearer but for some people can cause headache or eyestrain. I dont recommend other BFI / MBR technologies then the 2 i mentioned.
3rd option is when you can run game on much higher fps so you dont use gsync and vsync and frame cap but you should use reflex (it wont autocap since not using gsync)
You uploaded this right when I started looking at new GPUs lol
yea but if u have a 240 hz monitor i recommand to not cap the game under 140 fps cuz below the game will fell like shit
idk what i did wrong but im capped at 60 now... and my sens is somehow lower?
3 mins before you actually get to the settings.... spare me the long prequels and get to the point.

uncapping my frames resulted in less stuttering because my gpu wasnt being utilised enough
I got loss in the part where I need to download the file, Not sure where to go to download it
I have a cheap gaming laptop and get an average of 70-80fps. When this laptop can't play Apex higher than 60fps, I'm going to get a laptop with an RTX3050 with a 4k screen to enjoy the game in maxed out settings. But until then, low to medium settings. 😢
you skipped over the videoconfig too quickly. I have no idea what to do
the fact that almost every one herre locking for booost fps DONT HAVE G-SYNC monitor
if we do , atleast their PC have 1650 or higher GPU, and that already able to play smoothly
Bro Idk whats wrong but that messed up my entire game, couldt play
"Prefer maximum performance" can cause stutter, when the GPU runs into the power limit, which creates a framedrop when the driver is then downclocking the GPU speed while the CPU is still requesting the same GPU render work. You can use this if you keep your GPU under the power limit for example by limiting FPS etc.
so what do u think the best option to use ? cause i get stuttering even on 3060ti gpu
the Battle(non)sense did physical tests of total Input Lag using detectors to measure Input Lag from mouse clicking to changing pixel on the monitor. And in his test ingame cap better then RTSS
Unfortunately he didnt test in Apex Legends specific
On mine 3080 I don’t have “shader cache” why? Thank you!
So I want to make sure I understand right. After I download RTSS, I run a few games without it first and take note of what the lowest FPS is that my setup is fluctuating to. Then cap it on RTSS to that number under Framerate limit?
Curious how come you don't use Nvidia control panel to limit the fps that way
Input lag.
Sure you can limit the framerate through NVCP, or even the game itself, but in most games it has been shown that limiting fps via RTSS causes the least input lag.
I even saw a test that compares frame consistency and input lag across RTSS, in game settings and the 3 nvidia framelimiters in a couple games, and in most cases RTSS gives you the most stable rate.
