Yes! I also started playing it recently and gladly discovered the new puzzles!
It makes sense, they knew that we would play it again having the experience from the original, and decided to make it exciting for us as well!
Also, some puzzles that in the original relied on a specific perspective, are not feasible on a free roaming mode.
The real time 3d definitely made the rotating room easier to comprehend

47:08: I've been looking for others' reactions to entering the domes, cause I had the same mind-bent reaction that you had here. XD In fact, it made me queasy (both from nervousness and from how surreal it was) in the Meta Quest VR version. :P

Chris, have you played Rain World before? It’s a game I have been playing non-stop recently and it’s really fun.
If you haven’t heard of it, it basically has you playing as a little creature at the bottom of the food chain. You have to get through a harsh world where every creature tries to hunt you on sight, and the AI is really impressive as they will follow you across different rooms and everything. The game is unfair in a lot of parts, but a quote from a friends puts it this way: “Nature is unfair, and Rain World is nature”
If you ever get the chance I highly recommend it because it’s just super cool. Also if you have played it before, have you played the dlc? It came out like a year and a half ago. It basically doubles the content of the game and can triple your playtime easily.

You make a long video, you get a long comment!
Of course you were going to play this! I'm interested to see what sort of stuff has been added or changed.
Very immediate thoughts: they should have kept the live actor fmvs over these comparatively bland models. Even if that meant needing to lock the view in place to prevent weirdness or whatever, that'd be far preferable. Is there an option to restore the originals?
I'm so glad the music and sounds are entirely unchanged. Just... so good.
And WOW the world looks good!
Yeah, Myst worldbuilding is absolutely top-notch, though a lot of it requires reading the books to piece things together and pick up on all the little details.
Based on the structure of the telescope, it feels like they might have changed things to try and avoid "notice this one small thing on the screen to click on" moments, which I imagine would be even harder to pull off well in full 3D than the still images.
No, those holes in the wall of the beetle room were added here, presumably to make it easier to keep track of what's where. Also, I definitely preferred the look of this room in the original. It's too bright and shiny here, feels less "sacred mythology of the creation of our world" and more just "gold."
Come to think of it, there's probably no zip mode in this version =(
I've probably mentioned it before but my Myst order goes 21345. Own all five games on disk, though the original Myst CD-ROM and 5-disk Riven box set (that thing was SO COOL!) are currently misplaced. They likely got put in a special box for safekeeping that then got lost over the years, but they exist somewhere in this house. I definitely have the least clear memories of 4 though, and it deserves a replay assuming I can get it to work on my more modern computer.
Huh, not only did they move the fire marble dome here, they also added an extra step to getting it open. Interesting.
And the entire gold dome seems to haver been redone! This will be fun.
    If I'm remembering right, that'd be 9 * 25 + 7, so 232.
    Reading time!
I feel like, rather than just saying the story of Myst is the story of the D'ni civilization, it's more the intertwined story of Atrus's family and the D'ni civilization. So from that perspective, IV and to a lesser extent III are still important chapters. Though I feel like V would almost be better off with large parts remade more than remastered. Exploring the D'ni ruins at last was awesome (I never got to play Uru), and both the good and bad endings were super-cool, but the Ages were so bland and desolate I remember almost nothing about them.
I love the detail of how in Atrus's journal here, he's referring to Riven as a singular island and all the implications that draws about exactly what these catastrophic consequences he was worried about were.
Also, I feel like these dates are listed as year.month.day. We popped in on the middle of him working on all this.
Huh, it feels like they restructured the whole of Temple Island so you have to go to the gold dome while first here.
Okay, this was a cool way to redo the firemarble domes.
At least in the original, I believe the telescope code wasn't set until you got it, so brute forcing was impossible. I also really appreciated that it was a 5-digit combination, continuing the theme. I wonder why they made it longer here?
Watching you having just completely missed the staircase down in the gold dome was pretty funny.
I laughed out loud at the bridge collapse. That was 100% made as a joke aimed at people who'd played the original. I was right in the middle of thinking "Wait, what's even the point of this bridge and the big loop-around when you already have access to the whole gold dome?" And then the game answered for me.
Welp, Moiety puzzle seems to have been redone! This feels like... maybe a bit too simple? Hopefully there'll be more steps later on.
No, Zip Mode was in the original Myst, too. Skipped past long travel, cut out long animations, and everything.
The game's basic structure feels a lot more constrained so far, like it's trying to guide players to certain bits before letting them loose on Riven as a whole.
The 25 is a big x in the box. As far as I know there's no zero.
Favorite island? Hmm, overall, probably Jungle, though they each have their good points. Temple has the gold dome and everything involved with that. Bookmaking has my favorite of the smaller-scale puzzles, plus Gehn's office is attached to it. Survey has some really cool scenery at points not to mention all the hints there for the overarching puzzles. And then Prison is part of the climax of the game (I am not looking forward to having to see CG Catherine).

Yes! This was a verry long comment whit a lpt of space between the lines. So I not going to respond to everything. But their was no way that the could have used the old FMV:s in this remake. The resolution was so low that you would watch a blurry wall of pixels if they have pjt them in his remake. So that was sadly not a option.

Played the original Riven (well, the ScummVM reimplementation) with my girlfriend last month, and it wildly exceeded our expectations. We must've spent an hour just deciphering the stained glass at the beginning. Our favorite island was the one with the village, because the eye puzzle is sooo cool and made great use of fixed camera angles.
I've gotta disagree about Myst 3 having the best actor in the series; I think John Keston's performance as Gehn in Riven is way better. Though he did get some help from Riven having better writing :P

Gehn's actor was pretty good. I guess I was just repeating what others have said.
