Do we need assessment of people who declare they have played viola themselves to judge (rather enjoy than judge) this performance ? I honestly don't think so :) Besides, why should one be so eager to say "I also played played viola" (and therefore know what I am talking about) ? Seemingly, youtube comments are often used to allow people to talk about themselves (whereas to talk about Berlioz, Bashmet or Fedoseyev would be far more exciting).

Sounds vaguely Russian here, but only because Berlioz and Liszt were so influential in Russia, analogous to Byron's own influence on Pushkin, not coincidentally. Russian string playing tradition was nothing to sneeze at though.
Wow! Simply great in every way!
this is the best performance i found here of this great piece
Both soloist and conductor are supremely excellent! Truly outstanding.
Excellent! A real treat to hear such uninspired performance, thanks,
Did you really mean "UNinspired"?
Superbe interpretation
inspired performance, Berlioz's piece is so cheerful as well as full of angst.
what a beautiful interpretation and encouraging piece of music in this troublesome period of European history.

Good Conductor and performance.
Herz zerreissend!!!!
Berlioz is a great composer.
As a former Violist this is good stuff!

🙏⭐️
Dette er Berloz på sitt beste,
