Note that this relates to syllabus too- I’m Sri Lankan and our syllabus is NOT very ‘understand and enlighten’ but rather ‘do the exam and fend for yourself’ typa shii. For that, strategies are totally different. I’ve seen people who didn’t even understand concepts and how they were built but just practiced the past paper set and got very good results 😅

Studying for 12 hours is insane lmao. I can study for probably 6-8 hours after school when cramming for a test. Personally, I get more motivation the longer I study. For me the hardest part is starting, since I need to learn something new and struggle through the challenge questions. After that I just need to solidify my understanding, which is really motivating because I actually start getting the answers right.
Anyways, this is a great video! I love how it emphasizes a work-life balance while being aware that grades are a significant priority!

12 hours sounds insane to me to. I wake up at 5 am and do work for 2 hours before school and 4 hours after, or on weekends until12 pm then a break/nap. 12 hours is double my study stamina, I get exhausted. But I do agree with you on your point about starting, and the motivation after getting answers right. That's how it feels in AP Chemistry for me

I know people who study for 16 or 17 hr. They are preparing for a competitive exam
As the name suggests, u need to be competitive, so ya from 1 month to more than a year, some study like this. My neighbor became a CA ( chartered accountant in India) her schedule was 16 hrs studying for a year during the finals.
She said the starting month was the hardest cause she deactivated all her social media ac including yt the only thing she used devise was for calling chatting with really close people previous year question paper and study related only on Google and songs.

It's really addictive at first since it makes me feel proud, pero pagkatapos ng ganyang kahabang oras na pag aaral, my head feels like it's floating hahaha it's so light. And after that, I realized that the best way for me to stay sane is to study for eight hours every day. Ive found from testing that indeed taking breaks is super important! My usual go to is study 1 hour and then a 20 minute break where I can either watch an episode of an anime on my couch, go for a walk while listening to music or call with friends for a bit and I usually repeat this 2-3 times depending on how much time I have. I’ve only started using doing this recently but I already feel so much more productive! (Although I revise for an exam and it went terribly.. but I guess I just didn’t study long enough

Actually the opposite of what is being claimed in this video is true - the most successful (academically) students work about 6 hours a day, not 12. Their success is down to 4 things - consistency, depth of learning (they tend to write things out and reformat them in ways that force their brain to engage with the material), revisiting topics several times, and innate ability to memorise and recall information. NOT long periods of study.

    • @AmsNl2BcnEs
      @AmsNl2BcnEs 2 місяці тому +6

And yes, before someone says it, I did watch all of the video and do know the first thing he said was you don’t need to study 12 hours. But he also puts aside efficiency and erroneously goes into duration. Korean education is highly problematic, it’s memorising information not critical thinking so a lot of what is learnt isn’t useful in later study and work. This is true of most educational systems but Korea is one of the worst.

The most successful students I know do actually spend more than 12h of studying without missing any day
They'd start studying at 8 o'clock in the morning and end at 1:30_2:00 pm , without any breaks but food breaks (sometimes they skip lunch or study while eating) , and the maximum food break is 30 min , so lunch+dinner=1h break , and when they wake up in the morning it takes them only ten to fifteen minutes to start studying.
      They emerge themselves in studying.

I've been studying an hour a day for a few decades. That's yielded consistent results for me. It's not perceptible on a daily basis. It's like brushing my teeth or taking a bath-I just do it out of habit. Same thing with physical training. And, usually, I end up spilling over into 2 hours (never more than 3).
I'm not saying it's optimal. It's simply integrated into my life, so it never feels like studying. It's tantamount to plopping on the couch to watch YT at the end of the day. Instead, I plop on the couch and work on my coding or dig into chem or analyze competitor digital marketing strategies.
Anywho, just adding my experience to the conversation on studying. Cheers, reader!

As an indian student as a neet aspirant and i know at start you cant but slowly but slowly is really slowly you cant achieve within. Here are the MOST USEFUL studying advices i got so far, (no bullshit, no cap, 100% works, skibidi)
    1. Understand the WHOLE thing that you want to study, make a mind map and undertsand the correlation between material & sub-material. KEEP IT SIMPLE. seeing things in the bigger picture is good as a starting point.
    2. Condition yourself to be able to study effectively. Basically just start study, and after you notice you can't focus do something to condition yourself. People different, i listen to SPECIFIC album to make my mind focus. but you can do something like staring at a wall or something that make you focus again. do it everytime you study, something like ritual to make your brain understand when to focus. it's important. you can just read a whole book and not understand a single word if you're not focus.
    3. Understanding the correlation and re-explain it in a way you can understand better and easier to recall next time. basically make everything recall-able, you can learn method like Mind Palace to help you remember specific material.
    4. Take notes, it's important, the key is, make another mind map with more details on it. remember, KEEP IT SIMPLE. it makes everything have correlation and not all over the place. and once you wanna re-learn it next time you can recall it faster and no need to overloading your head with bunch of informations.
    5. The RIGHT way to REST. don't reward yourself with something exciting between your study sessions. keep yourself bored and not distracted. you can rest by actually not process anything with your brain. letting yourself to be bored and relax is great to your focus and your motivation.
keep in mind, when you actually learning you will get tired and confused almost all the time bcs you overloading your brain with information, so it's okay to feel that way.

I have a couple of questions:
    1. How do you use a laptop or phone for studying and not get drifted off? There are so many things you can do on a PC that are more exciting and release more dopamine. I am trying avoid smart devices, but then I won't be able to use a pomodoro timer. (Maybe smart watch is the solution to that, but still it takes immense discipline to study on a PC. How do you do it?)
    2. How do you deal with the frustration when you can't study as you planned? When I make a study plan, I always fail to execute it. Either I get stuck on a topic and it takes way more time than I expected or things come up in life and I have to take unplanned breaks or I just start procrastinating forgetting my goals.
I am preparing for a very competitive admission test to get into a university that has always been my dream, yet when it matters the most, I am not studying at all. I am wasting my time procrastinating. I just wanna get out of this never ending cycle. I know exactly what to do, but I'm just not doing it.

    • @faizmalik3719
      @faizmalik3719 Місяць тому +1

      1. You can get a wall clock and use it for pomodoro. Say you started studying at 10:15 and wanna study an hour, you will stop studying at 11:15. Then take however long brake you do for pomodoro (this is what i do cause i also struggle with getting distracted by my phone)
      2. I will be deadass right now in my class there are a lot of smart people and almost everyones complain is they cant finish their schedule. I would recommend really taking your time to understand how much you can actually do and factoring in these breaks you take and stuff in there. So that although you didn't study enough you studied how much you thought you would
(I dont know how your home life is but i would recommend locking your door if possible so as to stop "things coming up" cause with me its usually my parents and i just ignore them cause study is more important. You need to set boundaries cause study is a higher priority)

taking breaks is a very important, not only for your brain but also for your overall body. Staying immobile for long periods is not good.
this becomes even more important for college students(students in their 20s) as your body just isn't just the same as in yours teens, sure, you have gotten cognitively more better but things like focus and memory keep getting slightly deteriorating as time goes. So the thing you do in breaks should move around your body to some extent, it should not be an idle thing(like staring at the phone) while it should also not be something that further tires your brain out.

Also I just want to say, as someone who plays an instrument at a really high level, we thought Korean students were just built different and could practise 12 hours a day (which they do, it's not just a stereotype), but once I got to know some of these people well, they told me that they usually spend 2-4 hours out of those 12 just zoning out or mindlessly moving their fingers. While I do think quantity is still very important, going over 8 hours is just a waste of time and pretty inefficient. Remember to prioritise quality over quantity and that comparing your studying quantitatively with others isn't that helpful :)

my study technique is simple. I sit in front of my mom 2 days before exam. Cry and she will help, make it into short tasks and organise. I study in front of my mom. Its the fear that gets me but also we take breaks where we yap and gossip for relief and go back. She also acts like alarm and tells me to walk or drink water when i am overwhelmed. Funnily there were times when I ran to her with literally just 8 hrs for the exam. Guess what I aced the exam to an extent that I was on the top 1 in the entre school lol. Yeah studying in front of her helps me focus. Csue or else I shld be ready for her slippers

Just an average Indian student from different streams of courses who are pursuing a top notch professional courses/ exams of their streams.... Study 12 hrs or more a day.....
But productivity is more about consistency than the amt of time invested...😊
Amt of time is imp but consistency is more....
Secret to 12 hrs could be breaking the day into 4 hrs each batch and break/nap/doing ur fav things or just watching ur drama but keeping track of time.... But at the very end no one could be consistent each day so not pushing urself too much on ur low days and finding something to grab motivation could be the best schedule to go with....bt don't be lazy everyday then...
    Hope this helps
an advice from average Indian Professional Exam Student...😅

Yes you don't need 12 hours studying. Yes, make plan for your study, don't study long. But, do it efficiently. When I was highschooler, I wake up at 5.15, arrived at school at 5.45, get back home at 18.00 and study until 2.00. I do sleep only for 3 hours 15 minutes
Guess what? I got top 3 from the bottom. 29/33. 1 person are Drop Out. So, yes top 3. Yes, Congratulated me. Gladly my parents are understanding me and make me keep sane.
Next Semester, I change my way to learn. I change my plan. I do more goals oriented rather than time based learn. And, I got 2nd rank. Well, I learned something.
But, I'm not satisfied. I know not everything in highschooler is needed. For example, my school don't teach me deep English. So next semester I do learn a lot from outside. I add more knowledge. In the end I got 16th rank.
I notice that the point is not ranking, score, perfection, or competitiveness. The point is why you learn, why you study, can you use this knowledge for better purposes, also the impact from your knowledge. Life is too short for learn something you don't need.
My tips, if you don't like the topic, do learn its concept. So, next time when you meet the same topic. At least you knew the concept and then searching it on Google Scholar

Actually if you're studying daily for 2-3 hours, then you can just study for 6 hours max before exams.
But if you're like me who doesn't study throughout the year properly, then 1 month before the exam will be cramming. At least 10 hours of daily studying will be needed to finish the syllabus.

Guys I failed last two years because I didn't studied, and this year feels no different I'm wasting my time everyday by doom scrolling every day. Ik this is wrong but I don't change idk why. I don't have time but I still don't change i might not make it this time, I want the God of this universe to make me study because I can't I don't what to do. And it's not like I never sat down to study because I did. But I genuinely didn't understand anything I feel like my mental age never grew after the pandemic. Im cooked.

Omg my situation is same. I wasted last two years and this year too. I decided to finally delete all social media apps that were distracting me and focus solely on academics from scratch. I believe that as long as we stick to our goal and instead of blaming ourselves and being stuck in that same toxic loop, spend more time on accepting that bad phase and try to be gentle with ourselves and work towards self improvement then it will get better with time. It's time to focus on today so future gets better. It's definitely hard because I feel like I am behind everything but I am determined now that if I work hard for next 6 months I will be in better place. So let's try our best and remember that we can make our brains more sharper and better with consistency and discipline. Best of luck to you 🫂💞hope it gets better :)

Hey, first of all what's important is that you have a will to study, you want to do this so you can and you will. But trust me sitting waiting for the universe won't help but yes, if you try the universe will help. I'd say you should start with studying for maybe just 20 mins but with a proper plan and resources so that you can understand what you studying, you are not going to get anything out of studying for long hours if you can't comprehend anything in the first place so try studying for maybe 20 mins but really be there and take guidance from someone who has already done well in your course or a friend who knows a bit better. I'm sure you'll figure it out but it's important to try and push yourself slowly. The aim is to do well and be productive not sit at your table for the longest time possible. Hope this helps!
