As I Floridian who travels to Quebec during late fall, I do have all weather tires on my 4Runner. Never know what weather I'll get between PA -> QC!! Last month was an great example, I got sleet, slush and snow, never had to slow down! Those tires are awesome.
Thanks for the review! I wonder how these would compare with the Michelin Cross Climate 2? - Because in highly controlled tests (there are numerous you can look up) they seem to always be the top performer (like by a WIDE margin) in snow/ice and even long term wear, HOWEVER I've yet to see this tire actually tested against them. I used to have WRG2s (many years ago) and they weren't anywhere near as good as my dedicated snow tires, however that was over a decade ago and older tech, so I'm sure these are far better now - I'd love to see an actual controlled test of these vs the michelins in both snow and onroad (rolling resistance/noise/rain/ice/snow) etc.
Those are excellent points. We also have to ask about fuel consumption, handling, braking and tread wear compared to All Season tires in spring, summer and fall. I will stick with my Michelin Defender on alloys/X-Ice on steel rims combination.
Good morning David, Yes sir, this is John Chan the fisherman. I'm retiring from 32 yr of lawman at 55 yr old. A fisherman but I just found out, I am mechanically inclined. At my old age I learned many things about life. My wife and I had opportunities to own different type of cars. Just to name a few, used to own EvoX, C4S, mustang RTR, C7 vett.....but now, we only own Toyota 07 tundra 5.7 with 197K miles pull my 22 ft fishing boat every summer, 13 RX350, 18 NX300, 09 Toyota yaris with 168K miles, 22 GR86, and 07 RX350. Why Toyota only? That's because I noticed are cheaper to maintain and long lasting. My first time I put Nokian tires on my 2000 lexus ES300. We drove our family to Canada, Montreal and Quebec in a snow storm. I noticed awesome traction on the snow. That first set of tires last us over 100K miles. We're happy Nokian owners. Now I only runs Nokian on my truck. My first set on the truck, they last five years. I own plenty of other tires in the past they never last this long. Just learned Nokian are made in Finland and Datton Ohio. Cool.... Like your video thanks
I have a current generation gasoline Rav4 with awd and I have been running falken wildpeaks as my spring summer tire and Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 as winter tires. They are getting worn out now and I’m going to consider this WRG5.
Had all weather tires on my cx5. Last winter I barely got through it and barely got up the hills. I took them off and got proper winter tires. I feel better and more comfortable and confident in the snow with proper snow tires instead of these all season tires. Note, in Europe, all weather tires are considered all seasons only as they still use winter tires. I’m replacing my all weather tires with some Pirelli Scorpion AS3 all season.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. With the 21 inch wheels on the Crown Signia Limited, the Nokian brand was not available. I went with the Vredestein Quatrac Pro 235/45/21 all season tire, which is also a true all season tire from the Netherlands. Very quiet all season tire with the triple mountain peak snowflake rating. They were on closeout for $105 USD so grabbed them quick. So far so good.
Hi David awesome video, I totally agree with you on these tires, you pretty much sold me on these tires I just got a question, where can I get these tires? Thanks in advance
Hi David, can you please make video on Window Tint and how you approach it? What brand and type of window tint do you use? How dark are your window tints. What kind of tint setup do you have on your Land Cruiser. I really value your opinion and would love to get insights from you on what you do and think about when thinking about tint
I have a 2013 Honda Civic Coupe. I have been looking at the WRG5 tires, it seems they will do well in the snow and ice but I am wondering how they handle the standing water on the freeways in the rainy times. I live in the low end of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. We have usually one or two good snow and/or ice storms a Winter and lots and lots of rain. Our winters can be -15F with a 3 inch layer of ice or 2-3 feet of snow overnight, then it rains and freezes puts 3 inches of ice on top of that or like this Winter, mild, lots of rain with intermittent weeks of mid 20F at night which makes the commute to work icy, I also live out in the country and commute into town, so my immediate area roads aren't cleared at all until I hit the main roads.
David, The tire companies are not doing consumers or themselves any favours when they sell All-Season and All-Weather tires. 🤨For myself, dedicated winter tires on steel rims will serve me from November to March then I will go back to All-Seasons on alloys. What is the tread wear rating on these Nokians?🤔
For those of us that live in cities were the roads are plowed during and after snow storms and what remains afterwards is some slush and icy patches till the roads dry, all weather tires are all one needs year round.
@@robertb5583 What are the fuel consumption, handling, braking and tread wear penalties associated with All-Weather vs All Season tires in spring, summer and fall? Why would anyone ruin alloy rims by habitually exposing them to heavily salted roads?
Hi David, I have a 2023 4Runner Limited with the Yokohama Geolandar G96B, 245/60-20. Nokian does not make a tire with this size. Can you recommend me a tire that is as close as possible to the Nokian WRG5s? Thank you.
David...i just got some Firestone weathergrip...all weather tires....curios to see how they grab trough the snow and ice... I am sure are not as good as the Nokians...but probably cheaper
David San 1) how is the performance of these Nokian tyres in hot summer climate? 2) do these tyres wear faster like traditional winter tyres or no they wear like traditional all season tyres / normal tyres? Thanks (Mobin)
Supposed to handle and wear like the all season...but with snow traction. Not as good in snow and ice as a snow tire..but you drive it in the summer...not as soft compound as winter tires.should last 60k miles? Depending on weight of vehicle...
Nokian makes best snow and arctic tires on the planet. Michelin is the largest tire maker...probably best all around tires...but for snow and ice Nokian rules...but they have different models....make sure you do your homework
Direct experience beats online reviews anytime...in my experience. I would trade my Michelin , BF Goodrich or Firestones...any day over Nokian....look up their testing grounds in the Arctic...
I’ve used Nokian WRG3, WRG4, and Nordman Solstice tires ( all are all-weather tires) - they grip great in snow and resist hydroplaning in rain. Currently, I’m on Nokian One all-season tires, with top-notch snow traction (5-star Consumer Reports rating for snow traction). But here’s the catch: every Nokian tire I’ve owned has had slow leaks, even after valve stem replacements. Recently, one of my Nokian One tires developed a slow leak, and last month Kal-Tire had to replace the valve stem to fix the problem. Some blame Russian manufacturing (Nokian WRG3, WRG4 and Nordman Solstice were made in Russia and Finland), but my USA-made Nokian Ones still has slow leaks. Meanwhile, my Michelins never had slow leaks, unless I ran over a nail. My next tires will be Michelin for my new car because I do not want to deal with slow leaks for brand new tires. There seems to be quality control issues with Nokians.
I heard it is still noisy once the treads wear down a little. And probably more expensive....and how about breaking performance on cc2? Better than this Nokian models? It is good to find out from people who own this tires and have direct experience. Lots of times marketing is deceiving
Nokian is a snow tire brand from Finland...best tires for snow and ice...and arctic weather. Better that any in those conditions. Michelins are better for warm climates...deserts...

I was just about ready to get the Cross Climate 2s for my RAV4 Prime and so glad I came across this video. Thank you, David!

I haven’t owned these particular tires, but I’ve been impressed with Nokian tires I had on my WRX. Excellent tires for snowy Quebec

Vredestein is a good brand too - I'll have to try them out one day!
I have the Nokian WRG5 Remedy after 2 sets of Wrg4s on a 2012 GX460. On the 2024 Rav4 Prime XSE I use Michelin XIce Snow in the winter.
Unfortunately I could not find OEM size for GX460 with 19s in Nokian. Only Cross Climate, which I’ve been happy with so far.

For us here in the westcoast, all weather tires are the best choice

They perform well even in summer time. And they wear out like any other all season tires - best of both worlds.
Following waiting for update video
Great info. Dave.
What’s the avg. cost and guarantee depending on sizes?
Thanks. I just looked it up 👍🏼😊
Back in the day. We could only afford 1 snow tire. So you put a couple of sand bags over it for traction.
Agreed the Nokian WRG All Weather tires are the best tires I’ve ever owned.
Better than Michelin CrossClimate 2?

nokian is exclusive to kal tire .
I don’t think I know anything about Nokia tires. No way they can be better than Michelin or other brands.

In winter conditions, Nokians are the best, and yes, they are better than other well known brands
