Loved this video! Especially the inversions of the augmented on top of a C7. That's a great sound and really useful. 🙂 . I have been teaching music from the 80s in Europe and there is one thing that we really don't do; Minor-Major. It is either or... So in the case of this video, it's simply an Aminor#7 chord. . Minor/Major comes from a polychord where you split the chords up and indeed come to an Aminor for a root-chord & Cmajor for a top-polychord. But... the moment you want to d e t e r m i n e this chord, there is only 1 t o n i c and you have to use THAT tonic to determine the other notes = Amin#7 . Thumbs up and subscribed.
absolutely BRILLIANT here. Egads...I'm 58 right now and I'm just blown away at how much I DON'T KNOW! I stumbled upon similar chord structures (as well as this one) just by goofing around...but man, had I KNOWN this stuff I could have EMPLOYED IT on purpose. Thank you SO SO MUCH for what you do kind sir. You have really encouraged me to take the time to understand voicings and all the different techniques to really enhance not only my own compositions, but stuff for the hymns of God (so that they aren't stodgy and boring...heh heh).
The tune 'Smile' (chaplin) is a slow tempo tune with 5 bars of Fmaj7 at the beginning and I always searched for some way of creating some movement. I use to use the F6/9 but now the augmented chord is a new tool to be used in this context. Thanks.
One way of thinking about upper structure triads and how to use them is thinking of the whole tone scale, in all the examples (b13, #9, #11) he was just outlining the scale. It’s an easy way to remember I think :)
Very interesting and helpful video. I liked the progression of easier to harder techniques (the last technique was too advanced for me to follow, but reminded me there’s so much more to learn...). Thank you!
Hi Mr. Jonny - piano internet learner over here - great vids- i have a request and maybe youve gone over htis and i didnt see it... but i wanted to ask about paterns about walking around with your fingers once we understand these chords and scales were learning here. Tehre's very few videos about this on hte internet, like i struggled to find one where a girl was discussing the methods in which you tuck your thumb under and when adn why you do it while walking around is there such thing as like shapes or common manners at which the hand walks around, or does it only sound good once your navigating the scaled properly? Oh dear jonny im so frikin lost in this aspect. Please help- thanks my man -
He knows that, that is just the way the software displays that note. It doesn't know the difference between A-flat and G-sharp. It automatically defaults to A-flat
@@sourigaijin then, here's the thing. This is supposed to be a teaching video. If he knows it, he should clarify it, so that people who are learning about this know the right way to spell the chord.

You have a remarkably efficient way of explaining complex chords in a simple straight forward way. Good job!! 🎉
I have picked up some real gems from your vids!
Jonny ,you are a remarkable teacher.I've been watching others and there are more of show offs than teachings.
very helpful. thanks
So glad it was helpful!
Good lesson. This guitar hack definitely envies piano players being able to do harmony & melody simultaneously.
Absolutely gold information, thanks for explaining it a clear and practical way!

"Duel of Fates" From Star Wars uses nice Augmented Chords. Straight from the beginning.
this was great, thanks!
Thanks for a super lesson! LOVE those upper structures!
Easy peasy
Wow wow wow!!! Great Mr J🙏🙏🙏
Great lesson, these were some helpful tips on application of augmented chords. I also wasn't familiar with the concept of triad pairs, very cool.
I have a quick question about how to play a minor augmented chord? (Em+)
what a great lesson, thank you! Your demo beginning Technique 2, Triad Pairs, sounds like Bruce Hornsby, whose sound I LOVE!
Tank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Interesting
In that C chord, the augmented note you have it as Ab, it would be G#. (/_-)

Ab+7 or Ab7 (#5) - not Ab7 (b13). You took my comment down because I'm correct.
Wow.
But, where are your videos?
When will you show us your profound knowledge and smooth playstyle bro?
Pffff
keep fighting the good fight i guess?
