HINT: We both had parents that were against our wedding, mine refused to attend. His sister wore a black dress in protest. We had our wedding in a park, on picnic tables, plastic tablecloths, paper plates; about 10 people came; we had fruit salad and buns; I sewed my own wedding dress and made a veil, rented a tux for him, and pd the minister $20. Did the event for about $150! Those objecting parents are deceased, now we have been married almost 50 yrs!!
Good for you two 💕 doing it anyway.

Can I ask? What was reason for both sides of your family protesting the union?

❤beautiful, sweet, romantic love story❤ bless y'all!!🤗🥰 true love
My neighbors just spent $20k on a wedding for their daughter and it didn’t last a year. 🤣 Stop spending all this money for one day.
Damn that's money they never get back.
waste of money! just enjoy the day with the closest family and friends!
The way she starts laughing and then immediately deadpans "It's not gonna happen" has me dying😂
How u be together 4 years before u marry, move in 2 months after u meet but separate 2 months after you marry... That's crazy!!!
JJ is about to teach a lesson about responsibility
You gotta learn to spell the word responsibility before trying to be funny 😂
@@briannjames1 thx for the correction, English isn't my native language so yeah, mistakes happen 😘
A big lesson!
I was going to say this 🤣
What a sad country! got married and divorced in one year not even LOL! weird.
Did you see the mom's smile wiped right off her face when JJ started to laugh?
I can understand their frustration. It's like paying for 4 years of College and your child quits after 1 semester. Super frustrating. But unless the Defendant's agreed to pay back the money spent on the wedding, the Plaintiffs have no legal ground to stand on. They would have to prove fraud(they knew beforehand they would split up and got married anyways) or an agreement to repay.
My parents paid for my brother's first wedding, and his bride left him 3 days after the event. She later claimed she knew weeks beforehand that she didn't want to marry him. Oh well, they chose to pay. Everything in life comes with risk and uncertainty.
For an entire year I paid my 19-yo son’s expenses on a weekly basis while he was at university. He quit studying after a month and never told me. The level of dishonesty continues to blew my mind. I foolishly gave him another chance. He got a traineeship after that and i said i would help financially if he stuck at it. He got fired in the first month because he was partying all the time (using my money) and I had to call the restaurant myself to find out
Absolutely. My parents paid for my wedding and I got divorced. It's life.

Remember when a wedding reception was held in the basement of the church? People brought food , Mothers and church members made the dinner. Simple times
When couples didn't start life in debt and parents got to keep their retirement fund.
My wedding reception was in a church basement not too many years ago. It wasn't a wedding for the magazines, but we left the venue just as married.
I'm sorry, did you time travel here from the year 1848 or something?
Simple and therefore good times
@@timothyhhRural America also exists. Travel more. Yap less.
I’ve watched friends take out loans and skip car payments to pay for lavish weddings. I decided then if I ever get married, I’m keeping it simple and old fashioned. I have no desire to go into debt for a wedding.
"Not gonna happen" I can hear it before the show 😂
If you can’t afford to get married, then get your finances together first. Because if you can’t be financially responsible your marriage is doomed.
Amen
It’s only like $60-$100 to get married.
Not true
Everyone can afford to get married if you have like a hundred bucks.
Having a big party is another thing.

I really hope we find out why a four year relationship ended after two months of marriage.
It was probably because of financial issues
Right. This is what we all wanna know!

If you can’t afford, have a cheaper wedding!
Married November 2017 separated Jan 2018! 😳🚶🏽♀️
Things were falling apart before they even started!
I don't want to pry but it seems they got divorced for frivolous reasons. And before someone comments "They can do whatever they want", one has to ask why they even got married in the first place. It is evident that people don't respect the institution of marriage. Perhaps, the government shouldn't be involved in the institution anymore.

I dont understand!
@lillyvaughn5398 Because half the time the blame lies on the women. Just like the other half lies on the man. I don't care if people blame a man or woman for something as long as it's fairly placed blame
As a European living in the USA I also find a rehearsal dinner a bit of a strange thing ( as I do bachelorette parties and baby showers). I often also see that people don't look further than wanting a perfect wedding . They forget that a marriage is a different commitment and not just a big party.
FYI marriage is more important than the “wedding” and what you spend on it. We planned our wedding in one month. Our marriage last 37 years until my darling went to Heaven.
rest in peace
I'm so sorry for your loss.
But congratulations on your marriage
I love the Judge Judy laugh!😅

Been together four years yet marriage lasted two months?? Must have been underlying unresolved issues
They were married and lived together for 4 years but the marriage was nearly over before it began? Make it make sense 🤔
WTH is a rehearsal dinner? Why would you pay money for this - that's like paying for the same wedding twice!
I'm Australian and we don't do thos rehearsal dinner nonsense. It's utterly ridiculous and a waste of money. We did a quick run through at the church the day before then we parted ways soon after until about 15 hrs later at the alter.
I've never understood this crazy American tradition
It’s all about money. It’s ridiculous.
I guess the marriage is a performance
@@Jade_902I guess the wedding is a performance
Sometimes the bride's and groom's parents have not met, and this allows them to get to know each other. In addition, if attendants have traveled to be there for the rehearsal, they're not left on their own for dinner after the rehearsal.
Of course, they need to meet and get acquainted. A simple family dinner will suffice.@@NYNC88
I need to hear from the parents. So far im not understanding why they expect any money back 🤷🏾♀️
I think it is just the mother. Mad because she dared to reject her son.
I mean, they're probably not going to get their money back, but I definitely understand their irritation. They put down a giant, non-refundable deposit on their kid's future, and then the kid said, "sike".
there was never a written contract.
Statistics state living together before marriage leads to a higher divorce rate. But two months?🤦♀️
Fell in love with a venue but didn't fall in love with each other 😮Crazy
Bottom line: if they were still married, would the parents expect money back? Of course not. Either way, unless the parents discussed beforehand with the couple to repay it, it doesn’t become a loan just because it doesn’t work out. Simple.
To me his parents are out of luck. 🙃🙃🙃
"🤣🤣🤣 it's not gonna happen 😒" 😂😂😂
If you can't afford the wedding why the hell do you get married
"Getting married" is quite a bit different from an elaborate wedding/reception.
I think it’s dumb to spend a ridiculous amount of money on weddings (and funerals). A former coworker of mine got married to her long time boyfriend. Her parents spent about $20,000 on her wedding (this was in the mid 90s). She and her husband then went on a two month honeymoon. Within about six weeks from returning from their honeymoon, they split up and got divorced.
Disgusting.
That’s how they raised him🤷🏽♀️ can’t complain about it now
A perfect marriage is worth a whole lot more than a perfect wedding. This has proved to be true for years.
Marriage is a beautiful union of two hearts, a promise of love and commitment. A wedding is a celebration of this union, a joyous occasion where family and friends gather to witness the beginning of a new chapter. It is a day filled with laughter, tears, and memories to cherish forever.
Judge judy laughing like a big villain.
Sad to see a mother sue her child
As someone who footed the bill, I’d be pissed as well. Marriage lasted 2 months 🥴
me too. i'd never give him another dime. never.
@@tempgirl00711I think both of you are wrong. You don’t know why their marriage failed, they were together for 5 years. If you’re not comfortable footing the bill for a couple than don’t, but not giving them anything again bc it failed is incredibly selfish and weird especially bc you’re not them.
Don’t foot the bill if you’re not comfortable understanding that relationship can fail.
tough shit. paying for a wedding comes with a risk of the wedding not working. you pay for it and you lose all that money, tough. shit. its on you for being financially irresponsible.
It’s like paying for someone’s birthday bash then getting mad and asking for your money back because the birthday person ended up dying sometime later. Makes no sense
Marriage is a sacred union between two souls, a promise to love and support each other through life's journey. A wedding is a celebration of this commitment, a joyous occasion where family and friends come together to witness the joining of two hearts in love, creating lasting memories to cherish forever.
Marriage is a sacred union between two individuals, a commitment to love, support, and cherish each other for a lifetime. 4 years relationship😂, 2 months after marraige. Living w/ o commitment doesn't make for lasting relationship
Now this is an intetesting case. Sorry can't sue. Teach your children to make better decisions and pay their own way if its money you cant afford to lose.
oh.. by the way... weddings are basically one of the biggest scams to benefit the wedding industry.(caterers, planners, flower shops, hotels, airlines, etc) You can have the most wonderful wedding and still end up with a lousy marriage. Take advice from old fart like me... have the smallest ceremony with only your absolute closet family and friends. If they truly care about you, they won't mind having to attend your wedding at the city park, beach or even a rec center.(or if you want, the chapel of love in Vegas) I only know 5 couples who have been happily married for over 40 to 50 years. All of them had very small wedding ceremonies and receptions. Wedding day is just one day. You will be spending 10,000 to 20,000 days with your wife or husband.
@S_Paoli...Very wise words you have there. Very true as well.
There is truth in what you say but there's nothing wrong with having a big wedding, what's important is that you can afford it and it's actually what you want. I have been very happily married for nearly 15 years now but I would have liked a bigger wedding, I had to have a very small wedding as it's all I could afford and I always felt a little disappointed that I couldn't have something nicer.
or how about getting to really know each other before tying the knot, seek counseling prior to marriage, a counselor can go over finances, personalities, emotions, feelings, compatibility, etc. everything. to help ease mentally mature people down the right path, getting their eyes wide open before taking that leap, they can see what the couple cannot see, or may be in denial about. so many people use divorce as if it's normal, no wonder why we have high azz divorce rates. people that aren't compatible keep forcing the circle into the square and this is what we end up with. counseling doesn't guarantee success but it could help people learn to work on their marriages and issues. to work hard to sacrifice to give and take and share and have patience. etc. smh. people are crazy out there.
@@TheFakeyCakeMaker no need to be disappointed about the small wedding... You got the big part going right and its all that really matters at the end. 😊
I think huge weddings are silly. Mine was small. Maybe 35-40 max and held on the family farm. I bought a beautiful lace dress off the rack, least expensive rings we could afford, family roasted turkeys, had veggies from the garden, a cousin was DJ for our barn dance, local pastor, and one bridesmaid and one best man. No rehearsal dinner. Our friends and family camped overnight on the property, we all played some volleyball and we stayed in a tiny cabin on the property built just for us. It was a BLAST! A true celebration. No fancy photos, but 38 years later, we are still happily married, everything is paid off, loving our retirement and so glad we didn't go into debt with a big, fancy wedding.
Both my sons and fiancés paid for their own weddings. So did I. We eloped. It is such an archaic practice to expect the brides family to foot the bill.
We got married at the courthouse and didn’t invite anyone to avoid the spectacle and drama. I didn’t even tell anyone but my mom until it was over 🤷♀️
I ❤ JJ's laugh, makes my day!!
Even Colonel Sanders attended the wedding!
Once married / stay together you know each other well well
I love the fact that she began with the defendants and practically immediately ruled in their favour. Love how she laughs about it first.
Prepare for the marriage, not the wedding 🤦🏾♀️

The defendants are outrageous. Who throws the big white wedding of their dreams, gets married, and separates 3 months later? Did they not know each other before they got married? What a waste. If my wife and I were the parents who threw all that money down the drain, I’d tell my kid to grow up and make the marriage work, or start paying us back next week!!
Did you not listen? They were together for 4 years before and lived together for almost the entire time. Who knows what happened. Also, you might demand your kids pay you back, but there is zero legal responsibility to do so, which is what JJ is going to tell these parents.
It is crazy that they could only make it work for 3 months. But, statistically couples are more likely to divorce if they live together before marriage.
As far as the parents: wanting money back is ridiculous. It doesn't matter how long the marriage lasts. The cost of a wedding isn't pro-rated based on how long the marriage lasts.
If this was my kid, I'd be greatly disappointed at the dissolution of the marriage, and the wedding money would be the least of my concerns.
@@bradyconeBut they are only separated not divorced
@@iykeharrison9161 yeah but I'm not holding my breath lol
Unfortunately, it seems like people don’t try to make it work nowadays. Why do we have couples who have been married for 40,50,60 years and nowadays marriages last a couple of weeks?
Judge Judy thank you so much

My husband and I had a BLAST making most of our decorations ourselves. The marriage is SIGNIFICANTLY more important then the wedding.

If you’re grown enough to get married then you should be grown enough to pay for it yourselves.
nah if my parents are offering, i’m taking. and i’m sure i’ll do it for my future children if god allows as well
I have never heard of a rehearsal dinner. I'm glad I don't live in the USA.
Not everybody does that
My husband and I just wanted to go to a court house and be married there, my mom offered to pay for an actual wedding. We just didn’t like parties. I understand them not feeling like it’s owed because the parents offered but they were also planning to have an actual wedding that they couldn’t afford from the beginning. No wonder their marriage failed.
Lasted four years as boyfriend and girlfriend but only two months as a married couple??? So absurd. Also, if you have to take your family to court, you need a new family.
Colonel Sanders and Wreck it Ralph on JJ!
Australia checking in as well
Why can't couples try to make things work? And, spending a fortune is silly - 100 people or more. A year is not long enough to decide to divorce - you don't really know each other enough.
Crazy parents. They knew their son. They should have expected the marriage was not going to be particularly stable. It's part of LIVING. Get used to it.
Sounds like marriage ruined their relationship 😳
How? They were already LIVING LIKE A MARRIED COUPLE
I am always shocked when I hear about US weddings and how large thy get. That's insane.
Oh, yeah. Over here in the US weddings are large, expensive, and usually end in divorce. But, hey! The parties are fun!
I might feel the same way if I were the parents.

It is so strange for me.. (i'm from the netherlands) a rehearsal dinner...😂😂😂 why.... why do you have to rehears for a wedding... it is so extreem strange....
A rehearsal dinner is not rehearsing for a wedding. It's a dinner you have for out of town guests the night before the wedding. But I agree, it's too much of an expense since your guests will be eating anyway at the reception after the wedding.
@@DarkPhoenixSaga in the netherlands we sometimes have a diner after the reception....

They are two immature and entitled idiots. They deserve each other.
Whaaaaaat up lunch crew?! Hi from Dallas
The red flags are there: the extended courtship, and "playing house." The stats dont lie on this -- cohabitation isnt preparation for marriage, but rather preparation for divorce. It does NOT take a man 4 years to decide that he wants to marry you. Wishing them the best going forward.
The edits in the beginning said the whole story 😂
Wtf is a rehearsal dinner ? To learn how to eat ?
It's for people that travel and arrive early (can't travel on day of wedding) and close family to get together in a venue and eat and talk and have a good time. I think only wedding party goes to actual rehearsal but dinner is after that. Rehearsal is so people know where to strand and review of what different segments of wedding are going to be in actual venue (you walk here, then you will do your speech, then...) dinner is just an exciting gathering of family and friends night before
These parents are delusional OMG !!!
That’s so ridiculous to ask for the money back after the wedding. When he gets married next if he wants to this time let him pay for it.
what is the point of a partial episode?
I actually kind of sort of get why the plantiffare annoyed I’m being annoyed too but you don’t get your money back for paying for your own son/daughter’s wedding. Plus usually parents don’t expect the kids to pay them back. It sucks, but it is what it is if he remarries the parents should just be like “we don’t got the money, you pay it for it yourself” lol
Friends of mine are married and i didnt even know anything about it. They dont use wedding rings, there is a photo of them together but no suit and tie, no big white wedding dress no decorations and these two are as close as what honey is to a bee and nearing their senior years. I cant tell you how long they have been married for but the love they have for one another you can immediately see the sparks and when you get to know this couple you would seriously think that they would be thinking of tying the knot soon I nearly had a heat attack when i found out that the picture i keep seeing in their house is actually ther wedding photo.
Must be tough for the plaintiffs to have to stand there and hear all this even after JJ said they’re not getting anything.
Unless the couple committed some kind of fraud, I can’t see the plaintiff’s winning.
4 years together i guess marriage changed everything
KFC in the house!!!
A rehearsal dinner? Is that where you practice how to eat?
Lol 😂 yeah I want my money back for my daughter's wedding
Imagine being separated from your spouse 2 months after the wedding, all to have to link back up because your former in-laws are suing you. I can't even imagine.
The parents pay for the wedding which is what they do you’re not getting the money back absolutely ridiculous
I’m right here
I have a theory that the more expensive the wedding is, the shorter the marriage lasts.
