wow. i really enjoy how honest and genuine you were about what you would pack if you could take everything you wanted in a bag. You're the 4th video review of this bag that i've watched tonight and are my favorite take. I was most sad about the lack of water bottle pocket, but immediate knew i would either put it up top, or in my lite sling so when you brought it out I was like YES! (i was hyped to find out bellroy came out with this bag, because i LOVE the lite sling. I've been wearing it for years. Great video review man. Love your style, such an easy, non-gimmicky watch. I look forward to seeing more content from you for sure! :)
Thanks so much for the kind words and support, so glad to know you enjoyed the video so much! Thought it would be fun to blend in talking about the bag more seamlessly into the topic I had planned - was really happy with how it came out too!
Always amazed of all the tech you are carrying in your travel bag 😇 I fully agree with you regarding the lack of an external water bottle pocket, for me it’s a major no go for a travel backpack. It’s so convenient as well to store a wet umbrella during winter season.
I’d imagine it can be tough to implement with some of these designs, but it’s a pretty big priority for a lot of us. Hopefully they include it in a future update and other bag companies do the same
why do you need an external water bottle pocket for a travel backpack? the bag should only be used during the travel days, where water is plentiful (on the plane or train). a water bottle pocket makes way more sense for a daypack where carrying water is important, so imo there should be a packable daypack stored inside this bag
@@Medsas When travelling to my destination with the travel backpack, my water bottle and my umbrella are usually used during the commute from home to the airport or train station and then on arrival before reaching my hotel or airbnb. If stored in the bag, they are useless and will as well waste too much space inside.
Josh you seem like the nicest guy ever. I cannot imagine you arguing with someone or yelling at someone. I need to be more like that. Have a wonderful weekend.
I don’t think I could call myself the nicest, but I generally try to be. Never been a fan of yelling, always good to talk it out and be civil. Appreciate it though, have a good weekend too!
Ooo, I love that backpack! Definitely one to think about. And I agree--I prefer having a water bottle pocket on my backpacks. I am not sure why they aren't included in so many of the high-end backpacks. It is close to a must for me--I don't want to dig around in my bag for my water bottle. Thank you for a great video! I usually travel every other month or so, but have had a respite this summer--which has been a nice break.
Appreciate the support on this one! Totally agree with the water bottle pockets, always a bummer to see otherwise great bags without them. I’ve seen some clever designs where it has external access but only takes up internal space - something like that would be perfect for this
The VSSL brewer is amazing! I've been traveling around the world with it for the last 6 months and it has proven to be the most elegant travel coffee solution I've used. Only drawback is that airport security will want it opened up if you are attempting to carry it on.
Hey Josh, really enjoying your videos and great to see the Aussie company Bellroy bag, looks great. It would be handy if you could give the packed weight to see how this goes with our domestic carry on limits. Cheers mate!
Thanks so much! I usually try to give the bag weight (950g for this one) but usually skip the packed weight since everyone’s load out will be different. Might do a weight-specific challenge type of loadout sometime though, that could be fun!
Same here! The clay color looks even better in person. Comfort is a bit better than expected for this style of bag. Not quite as comfortable as a heavier more ‘full featured’ support system bags but the straps are quite a bit thicker than the smaller bags in the lite series and it carries well for my frame
@@joshfenn Appreciate the response, Josh! I'm downsizing from the Aer TP3, so most straps are probably going to feel inferior to it, but sounds like these are still decent. I have the Bellroy Lite Duffel, which as zero padding, so anything's gotta be better than that!
One bag travel is the easiest way to fly! I really enjoy the orange color of the backpack, it goes really well with your aesthetic. Always excited to see your perspective on sunglasses.
Random question, but would you be able to measure the dimensions of it when fairly packed out? The Bellroy website has specs that seem really off. The 30L measures to only be 22L given the dimensions, while the 38L ends up around 32.7, and even more weird is the Transit 28L measures to be 39.3L (!!!) based on their given measurements. I have the transit 28L and like it a lot but am considering one of these for more serious travel but the dimensions have me scratching my head
Happy to help! I stuffed a blanket and some clothes in just now to measure, it’s pretty difficult to be accurate with how unstructured it is but this is what I got: 18”H x 13”W x 10.5”D Seems to measure out to 38L with my dimensions, makes sense why it felt bigger than the advertised 30L. Hope this helps!
Not sure if I'm completely sold on this bag yet but it definitely has promise. The full clamshell and organization looks top notch which is what you'd expect from Bellroy. Great video as always. Always gotta stop by and show love to a fellow Oregonian.
I almost corrected that in the edit with text, I’ve been using the t-series drives for years. Just a slip-up error on my end. Got my first in 2017 or 2018 I think? Always been solid for me.
I mentioned it briefly towards the end, the lack of water bottle pocket was my only real complaint with the new Bellroy bag. It fits in the sling or top compartment on the backpack though
Great video and load out. Would love to have you on my podcast and pick your brain in the future. Please let me know if you would be interested to have a friendly chat between two bag reviewers
@@joshfenn Thanks for your reply. That is totally understandable. Would love to have you on as a guest, so please just contact me whenever you have some time available to meet up virtually.
Water bottle was the first thing I thought of when I saw this set up. Thanks for addressing it. I tend to carry a Hydroflask UL 32 oz bottle which can get a big unwieldy. I've been using a Dakine Hot Laps 2L as a "sling" because it has the stow compression straps on the bottom. I can put the bottle there although it is not ideal given the "wings" of the pack when used in sling mode. Wish more sling bags would incorporate a water bottle solution in smaller bags. Most of the options I have seen have been in the 4-5L sling option which is just bigger than needed when carrying a 30ish liter pack as well. Hope Belroy listens about adding a bottle pocket on the pack.
Yeah water bottle carrying in sling bags especially is tough. I’m not a big fan of collapsible bottles, the best fitting option for me has been a memo bottle but it’s not quite as nice as my normal go-to
Great list! A few questions if i may: do you have a CAP0.5? If so, would it serve as a storage case for the Vitures? Also do you know the exact weight on the slim Ugreen charger? Of course this doesnt seem to be published on the amazon listing. Im between that and Nomad's slim charger which is only 70g or so, very lightweight.
I don’t have the .5 but I really love that idea, gonna have to pick one up and try it because the default case for viture and XREAL are both a bit annoying to store. The ugreen charger comes in at 105g so you’d probably want to go with nomad if weight is a priority. Gonna have to check that out for myself too!
Some great tips and tricks there, but when I travel, I want to be as tech free as possible, I’ll carry an iPad maybe for some light consumption but I ain’t schlepping around anymore 16 inch MacBook Pro anymore. AirPods, iPhone ,battery charging and cables. But that’s just me. One of the reasons I like my backpack is on the side, It has two compartments built-in for water bottles ( Topo Designs Mountain Pack 16 L Backpack( I purchased on clearance much less than the retail price)). Thanks for putting out good content.
I totally get that! I tend to swing between full-tech and phone only trips depending on where I’m going and what I’m doing. Always nice to unplug for a while, outdoor backpacking has been great for that too
Hopefully it didn’t come across like that too badly! Bellroy only wanted a quick minute or two segment about the bag but I thought formatting this way would be more entertaining/informative
Great Loadout for such a sleek bag. Quick question Josh, how does the lush m-bar react on the matador pouch, does it melt? I've been traveling with the Tin, and it never occurred to me to use a pouch. Just made a 4-day stay to Mexico, and tried out the Mando cream deo. Can't say I recommend, but it was a fun experiment.
I forgot to grab them off the kitchen counter when I started filming the video, put them in the description list though. Usually just bring my AirPods Pro and will sometimes grab my soundcore earbuds as a secondary pair for my legion go and viture glasses
Would you know if the Bellroy pack would fit under an airline seat? I fly out of Atlanta and usually the Platinum/Diamond's take up all the overheads so I'm needing to place under seat. I don't want to be that guy that puts his bag 20 rows back then swims against the flow to get it. Also, maybe a review on the XR glasses. First I've seen those. Great video as usual!
The 30L would be snug under the seat but I think it would manage okay. Haven’t tried the 38L but I’ve never had a bag in that capacity range that fit well so I assume that wouldn’t either. The 30L though is really thin/flexible so it should mold into a tighter spot easier than more structured bags. Made a dedicated video for the XREAL glasses a few weeks ago and covered the viture pretty thoroughly a couple of months back in a ‘in-flight’ travel gear video, might be worth checking out! Been debating a dedicated comparison video for them both though sometime
Sorry about that! I meant to but forgot until I had already loaded the bag for the video and forgot again afterwards - it’s 2.1lbs/950g. Brain has been slipping this month, definitely need a break haha.
