Hey Sean! Gosh, I cannot express how bizarre your timing in uploading this is.
This video just scream out the reason why I've recently resigned from the studio I worked under here in the Philippines.
I'm a junior in the concept of Photography and I've yet find my style and it's one of the reason why I left. Though, the crew I worked with is great, I was never given a chance to... bloom, so to say, while I was with them.
I felt repressed while I work with them, but I honestly cannot blame them. The studio is still small in both place and crew after all and the industry had been demanding that it couldn't provide me a proper time to find my own practice to focus on.
So, I left in hope for a retreat.
I've yet find the direction I wanna explore -I'm unable because my lack of camera or lens -but I find your channel a start to learn more about the industry.
I look forward for your advise about photography and I'm really thankful that you share these types of video and I will continue to look forward for your uploads!
    Love from the Philippines.

I’m amazed that the church didn’t like you sharing doubt. Along the way I read something that allowed me to feel confident in my faith for the first time ever.. and that was: “The key to faith is doubt” ... It’s a concept to me that now seems obvious, but I remember it blew my mind, and since then I feel confident in my own faith & doubt and how they work together.

I found your channel because of that video of the landscape photography. A major aspect of your videos I like the most over everything else is that there's fluidity in your speech, you don't cut clips and put them together like nothing happens, I hate when there's a notable jump inbetween lines, I don't know if you get what I'm saying but I really do appreciate that style of editing. What you do is say a line, cut, zoom in and talk again, cut widen to normal and speak again, cut zoom in and so on so forth

Looks like an incredible opportunity Sean, and the first may be the most special. I used to produce similar retreats a ranch near the Redwood Forrest near the Northern California border with where anyone looking for insights into life and their challenges (often Including mental health and spiritual professionals also looking for insights) could come a share a few days, and the outcomes were always profoundly enriching and beneficial to all.

When I was living in Vietnam I'd go on retreat to a Buddhist monastery in Pak Chong District, Thailand three or four times a year and it was an amazing reset on life. A week of vegan meals, mornings in meditation, afternoon naps, a hour or so of "work meditation" then the rest if the day to photograph rural Thailand with my X100T. Between 9pm and until 15 minutes in to breakfast no one spoke. I spent those days wearing simple brown Buddhist lay-person clothes like most others. It was very peaceful and those resets made me a better photographer, better writer and a better person. At about $20 USD per night and flights less than $200 USD [from Vietnam] it was also an amazing bargain. Invest in yourself and take a retreat. Since we're in age of social distancing a nice retreat could be a week of camping by yourself.

I’m watching this video two years since it was posted, and I can only imagine what a wonderful retreat it was for those in attendance. It grieves me that the Church was not able to celebrate your gifts of authenticity. I can wholeheartedly relate to your experience as a priest. After 30 years of active parish ministry, some of it very toxic, I decided to retire. Photography became a contemplative refuge for me during my years as a parish priest. Now, I’ve become intentional about pursuing and sharing a spirituality unencumbered by institutional expectations. Thank you!🙏🏽

Sean, though things turned out to be different than what you planned ('Man proposes...God disposes,' a religious mind would say and accept the 'what' without any truck with the 'why' whatsoever. However, a spiritual mind connects with the 'why' churning the 'what' behind the scenes and knows that while you ask God for what you want, God blesses you with what you need.), your influence to do and leave something positive in the world as your legacy has increased ten-fold. There you would have changed some in a congregation of a few hundred may be. Here, you are changing the world of thousands and millions. Stay blessed!

Thanks for the insightful video, Sean. I've been watching your videos since the beginning. To my knowledge, they are the only ones that give us the same feeling one has when genuinely exchanging ideas with a friend. No artifacts. Not trying to match someone else's expectations.
With that in mind, I dare to mention here a book, which you might find as compelling and inspiring as I did: "Sculpting in Time", by Andrei Tarkovsky, a Russian movie director who looked at the art of story telling through image in a very particular way: from a very humbling, human and emotional place.
If his name is unknown to you today, I have the feeling you will remember it frequently after reading his book. His movies are pure image poetry.

Sean Tucker, you are truly brilliant. The solutions to so many things in life, lies in what you mention.
If we can get out of the confine of our own minds, it we will all be better people. Being different is 1000 times more difficult than conformity, but it is also 1 million times more rewarding because it takes more leadership than most will ever know.
I'm going to bring as many people to your channel as possible because you are using photography to teach people about life and im interested in seeing you finish what the church tried to stop you from doing.

True words. Thanks for sharing your experiences. But I like my daily retreats too. Some meditation or a walk across the fields. It's a little bit like a soft reset.

I really appreciate your wisdom and honesty on vulnerability, doubt, faith, creativity, and tapping into one’s voice again via retreats in nature. (Are you me?!) Watching this, I felt like I was hanging out in your living room and being part of one of those great, deep conversations outside of time. Thanks again, Sean.

Three tons of bricks. In a good, uplifting way.
First, this segment made me think about how just a couple of days ago, someone who recently got a used "learner" DSLR asked me to help them figure out their ass from a hole in the wall, guide them by sharing my insights, which I am going to start doing. (I started my recent photography journey almost 8 years ago with a used DSLR, so I get it.) But, me as a photography mentor? Yes, I am part of two generous photography communities one online and one locally. But still, me as a photography mentor? Anyway, one of the few things I already suggested was me walking with them on their own journey, maybe with me just walking a little further behind them to provide a pointer when requested and, hey, maybe learn some things myself.
Then I thought of how I am finally putting myself out there, finally exposing myself (ok, my photography, but still, it is very much a part of me) as an artist who sells his work and shares his somewhat unorthodox vision. So far, the reactions have been tepidly encouraging/polite, but I did (and probably will again) get some visceral discouraging feedback that was painfully negative. I interpret it as the people who reacted that way trying to keep my in my place because they feel I am taking myself too seriously as an artist. And those reactions hurt, since they usually came from people who I did not necessarily expect would blindly laud me, but I did expect my adventure would generate deep discussions with about how I am positioning myself.
Finally, Pema Chödrön, whose teachings guide and console and inspire me, came to mind as well. I recently noticed that she described her life as a Buddhist monk as "rarified" because she is sheltered from much of the world's chaos, though of course, life always brings chaos, even to a contemplative environment, but in her case she is separated from much of the overwhelming chaos that our present media environment generates. That description of her life led me to realize that, even though I work in educational tech and participate (and thrive) in social media, I also have a kinda rarified life, with stretches of silence and reflection and just fucking off. (It happens...)
So, all that said, I love this post and am all about the need for contemplation and am seriously thinking of participating in the retreat. I was already somewhat piecing together my trip to Europe next year, and I think my plans have now changed drastically but for an adventurously introspective turn.
As always, grateful AF to you and your sublime creative meditations.

Great stuff Sean. This message is also multi faceted! By moving away from the 'clamour', not only may we find fresh insights for our creativity, but also that 'Still Small Voice', can have a chance to reach us and perhaps fill in some of the longing and emptiness that modern day striving has poisoned us with. I'm going on my retreat for a week away in Cambodia early next yr. We are also going to Vietnam and China, but I told my wife I need that week by myself, alone, in beautiful Cambodia. Blessings - Philip

Inspiring and motivational. Always enjoy your uploads. For me, landscape photography time is my retreat time. While I need to do a few days from time to time, even one-half day alone in the forest often leaves me feeling complete and refreshed. Where I go, no cell phones work, no computer, and I rarely see other people. That allows me to "finish my thoughts" as you say. Sitting next to a river in the depth of a forest recharges my battery. There is some energy in the trees and rocks and rivers that I can't describe but is definitely real and flows into me if I stop and allow it.

Sean, I always appreciate your depth. Thank you for bringing meaningfulness to UA-cam, a space that has a lot of fun and whizz-bang slickness which I also enjoy, but it's nice to find *retreat* in your content once a month. :)
Also, when are you and @jamiewindsor going to do a collab?!

When I watch your videos like this I have to get so curious about the people who thumbs downed them. I've said this before on another video of yours but I strongly feel those particular people may need you, your words and videos the most. Why on earth would they hate on beautiful vulnerability. Sean, thank you for being you. Thank you for being real. Thank you for making all of your videos. I for one value your time and efforts.

You're right, I haven't done that in two years and my mental state has suffered. Last time was spending four days exploring Oregon with no real plan, camping out of my Boxster... Life has been too busy and myself and my fiance havent gone anywhere in way too long.

Wow. I'm returning today from my own 4 day landscape/wildlife retreat alone. Your message really provides clarity to what the past few days have been, in putting words to the thoughts and feelings that subconsciously led me to take this spontaneous retreat too reconnect with my inner self. Thank you for sharing your message!
