  • The basic construction of twin and earth cable (twin and CPC). Name the parts and conductors line, neutral and CPC, what does PVC stand for? As well as a massive thank to Doncaster Cables for kindly donating 100’s of metres of cable to the learners of Tresham College

hi gaz in ireland we switch to this back in 2017 the cpc to be insulated green/yellow and to also be the same csa as the current carrying conductors would you think the uk may do something like this in the future .

How are the conductors arranged in the cable? I think that Line should be in the middle if they are all sleeved and of the same cross-sectional area. It would reduce the electrocution hazard from a damaged cable, all other things being equal.

dalriada842 the t&e is still the same configuration and looks a lot better when terminated

Students sometimes when designing a circuit a 4mm T+E cable does not have a big enough CPC as it Is sized at only 1.5mm.
The way around this is to use a 3 core and earth utilising the extra core as a CPC, creating a CPC of approximately 5.5mm.
Remember to sleeve and identify the extra core as a CPC.
the CPC has to comply with thermal constraints so as to prove that it will not be damaged during an earth fault event, not a rcd/rcbo event but a full fat mcb/bs 88 earth fault resulting in a potential current (If) of several hundreds of amps, maybe thousands?lasting several tenths of a second up to 5 seconds for fixed equipment. Don't worry once you learn about the design stuff,it's a doddle.👌

70 degrees cable are almost not used anymore in Denmark. Only 90. (Bigger load) Regards from DK.🇩🇰
