While I do agree that he is "doing something right" there is something you gotta consider about the statistic. First, he is working in a small town, where the reoffence rate would already be very low compared to the national average. Second, he is working in petty crimes. The insignificant crimes. You don't see him making creative punishments for murders and bank robberies, just bike thefts and the like. In this area of sentencing, the reoffence rate is very low as well compared to the national average for all crimes.

This is a good way to actually attempt to correct people's behavior BEFORE potentially ruining their life.

Other Judges with a 75% repeat offense, Take Rutherford Counties Extortion Scandal while The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security was Illegally suspending license, Regarding my Latest Fraudulent Driving on Suspended in Rutherford County, We have January 2020 Civil Rights attorney Kyle Mothershead argued with Rutherford Counties Negligent Judge Bennet regarding The 10 year Class Action Settlement against Rutherford Counties Extortion Scandal "Rutherford Counties Negligent activities is why Leon is behind on child support with his ex wife Rachel Whited in Wilson County "(Now Rutherford Counties Negligent Judge Bennet could of made an "Honorable" choice been like "Your right 10 years 2 Class Action Settlememts one against the Rutherford County and One against The Tennessee department of safety and Homeland Security for Ilegally suspending license, There is No reason for Mr.Brewer license to still be Illegally suspended, "BARNEY, go get Mr.Brewers license and I am going to personally hand them to him"....Rutherford Counties Negligent Judge Bennet could of been "Honorable" and been like "Your right, and with Tennessee being an "At Fault" State somebody owes Mr.Brewer for Damages of his totaled truck in 2014, so Rutherford Counties Negligent Judge Mcfarlin and his Negligent Buddies that are clearly in Contempt of Court with Judge Truager ruleing in 2018 giving The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security 60 days to "IMEDIATELY " reinstate 170,000+ Illegally suspended license dating back to 2012, and Since Deputy Negligent Officer Evan Sharp and his Negligent buddies want to undermind her authority they can pay for damages, No reason for them to have Mr.Brewer surrounded with Guns drawn on him due to Their Negligent activities " Rutherford Counties Negligent Judge Bennet also could of been like "Your right, There is No resona for Mr.Brewer to be behind on child support due to our Negligent activities, That's Child Neglect and I don't tolerate such stupidty so I am going to tripple his Back Child Support and The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and Rutherford County can pay for the damages" But instead he did actually waive most the Fraudulent Fees and Fines from Rutherford Counties Extortion Scandal "BUT" he gave an "Ablebodied " speech regarding all the Fraudulent arrest in 2019, and Honestly it was a 2017 Fraudulent Driving on Suspended, and a 2018 Fraudulent Driving on Suspended and Unfortunately in 2017 my shoulder was still dislocated from the 2014 wreck due to The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and Rutherford Counties Negligent activities and Unfortunately with Tennessee being an At Fault State All-State had yet to pay for damages for the 2014 wreck due to The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and Rutherford Counties Negligent activities, Now as Rutherford Counties Sherrif Arnold said in 2015 regarding Their Extortion Scandal "It's not about the money, It's about your debt to society and we don't arrest for Non Payment" but Basically If you look at all this, There are many factors that result into a "Repeat" offender #1 The Judge (Most times Judges are like president they don't actually make choices, It's between attorneys and Judge are just there for "Legal" documentation)#2 It would be between the attorney for poorly representing the client

We need a transparent statistics comparing this judge's performance to national average of:
      1. first offender defendant
      2. non-violent (non-serious) crime
      3. polled from counties with similar crime rate and social economic status
Then, we can see if his method actually works (significantly lower repeat offender turnaround) or he is just lucky these types of criminals are inherently less dangerous and less likely to go down the rabbit hole.
If the result is indeed positive, then I think we should start adopting this on more counties and track the progress. We just need to be careful when implementing this as this inherently takes away the fear. When criminals know their first rodeo will be basically punishment-free, we need to assess if things will remain the same. This judge may also be successful under the condition that nobody knows the punishment can be really lax, so it doesn't encourage more crimes to begin with.

Exactly, he might be a strict judge, but he is so kind, he gives people a second chance to improve themselves and not just as suspects but as human beings, that some judges don't do. We need more empathy and compassion in this world especially to people who are in need and for rehabilitation. He kind of reminds me of an Albuquerque Police Officer Ryan Holets who adapted the child of an addicted mom and instead of taking her to jail, saved her life by offering her and her homeless addicted husband to go to rehab. It would have been cool if the two would have met each other, I bet they'd have a lot to share about their experience working in the legal system. They are great people.

"I think it's better than goin' to jail, because... I think I can show people I can do better in my community"
I think this kid's outlook sums things up pretty well, right here. I've never gone to court for anything other than a speeding infraction, but even that imposes some level of... embarrassment? nerves? humility? Either way, putting small-time or first-time offenders in front of this authority and giving them this choice really does seem to really take advantage of an opportunity to people to get out of the criminal cycle, mindset, before they get to deep in it.
They get a brush with the criminal system, see that they could go to jail and understand the gravity of the ways in which the Criminal Justice System could permanently alter the course of their lives. But then they get the offer of this alternative sentence, and, at least based on the ones showed here, they are more focused on encouraging self reflection and building a contextual awareness of what their crimes could be doing to others. While some people are too heinous for this approach, I think it's, conceptually at least, a great way to encourage people to learn and grow as an individual within a community - versus jail, which, if anything, only further ostracizes people - to give them the chance to become healthy, productive members of society.

Some people may think this is an eye for an eye yet it is not. It’s simply brilliant. It teaches a lesson, it keeps the person out of jail which helps with saving money for the community, the person found guilty and gives faith to realize that someone is willing to give another person a break but yet they still are held accountable and not just put in a hole in the wall behind bars. I suspect that the 75% vs 10% averages are a tad misleading. He is a judge for primarily minor offenses. A vast majority of the offenders aren't going to be seasoned criminals. The 75% figure, however, most likely is across the board. Which would include courts that have very seasoned and serious criminals.
That said, 10% still sounds impressive... I just don't think it is anywhere near 750% lower than the average court that handles the same level cases as he does. It wouldn't surprise me, however, if his figures are 200 to 300% lower though. So, still impressive.

This makes my heart soar! A man in a place of power who is firm, forgiving AND not abusing his position?? He is a gem! I really believe these people learned a bigger lesson outside of the crimes they committed.

The US justice system is in trouble, it has one of the highest prison pop in the world. This method prevents minor offences from having short pirson sentences which will actually increase chances of repeat offences!

Tana Collier Can you please show me these stats? I actually think that your justice system or lack thereof is one of the largest reason your country is so fucked at the moment. I don't just mean the prisons but the Police training, the prison sentencing laws, and also the horrific prison conditions!

    • @Nu_Wen

Sending people to jail over petty crimes has already been proven to only make them into harder criminals. You are sending sheep to live among wolves so to speak. They will be forced to adapt or be broken, abused and/or used. Prisons are not a place for learning the right kind of lessons. Look it up. This judge is doing the community a service by not letting it come out of taxes but also doing those people one. By keeping the case personal the people are forced to look at their actions rather then just feel sorry for themselves and rebel with their new found criminal knowledge layer on.
