I like how he’s not only teaching people, but also giving a lot of kids and younger people the chance to step out this smarter and still with a clean slate
So true. These kids were scared and knew that they were about to suffer greatly in their lives, but he gave them another chance and they took it, so it’s really nice of him. He’s probably seen how much it can ruin someone’s life, going to jail I mean, so he wants to keep them out by teaching them a lesson while they’re all scared and anxious
but it depends on how these people accept his punishments. some will learn from their mistakes and never do them again, and have public embarassment, for example, as a punishment. but some will also be jerks and think that his punishments are easy, so they took the opportunity to do more crime that has easy punishments. there are always cheeky thinking people in this world.
I'd agree with MOST of these people who just made a stupid choice in the heat of the moment or were young and dumb but animal abusers aren't going to change.
I actually love this so much. I've worked in Corrections and honestly it's not correcting anything it's just time out for adults. People come in on small charges like a bit of weed or something and leave as thugs, especially the impressionable young people. This is a good way to actually attempt to correct people's behavior BEFORE potentially ruining their life.
Sending young folks to jail is a perfect opportunity for them to learn from other criminals and get connections to commit more crimes. Keep them out of jail? They’re less likely to have that opportunity

It definitely works. 10% is definitely far better than the 75% national average. Every judge needs to learn from him. Plus it would help the overcrowding problem the entire USA is facing.
This judge is not only extremely kind, but he’s right too. Larger offences often start off from smaller repeated offences that’s caused by jailtime, by his creative and embarrassing punishments, they’re discouraged to not repeat their crime. 10x better than sitting in a concrete box all day.
Not only that, it saves a tons of money. Average cost per day for an inmate (carlifornia) is about 222USD. Imagine stealing a bike, then sitting in jail for 60days, costing about 13 300 USD. Beside costing 13300, are more likely to commit more crimes and are less likely to get s job. Ye, this judge are doing something right.

Exactly, perfect all around. Most importantly it seems to cut to the core of the issue: the criminal does not understand the gravity of their crime. This addresses that. Jail gives them time to think, that's it. And if they don't have the wisdom to appreciate what they did wrong or the experiences to make sense of it, the only thing to do in jail will be to sulk in resentment.
The parade one was so great. Having him engage with the community and feel the support of others who want to see him go down a good path. Good on this judge.
@M Harris Exposure to extremely hostile environments does NOT make a person somehow magically better. It's a proven fact of neuroscience that the more hostile the environment that any sentient creature is exposed to, the more hostile they become in order to survive. It's a coping mechanism from the natural world and doesn't give a crap about societal constructs.
And from what the vid said about his percentage of repeat offenses compared to the national average, he seems to be succeeding big time. MAD respect. 😆
Drippy M that’s true. But I don’t completely agree with you. But I know where you’re coming from. You took someone’s life that they could of lived through a long time. But you kill them and still have about 1/2 of your life left. But I don’t think they should be sentenced to death, maybe lifetime of jail yes, but killing no.

To be fair I support the idea of offering euthanasia to those who get life in prison. Death sentence takes decades but some convicts actually would rather die. If a life in prison convict prefers euthanasia, it would save a lot of money plus the risk of escaping inmates.
This makes my heart soar! A man in a place of power who is firm, forgiving AND not abusing his position?? He is a gem! I really believe these people learned a bigger lesson outside of the crimes they committed.
The US justice system is in trouble, it has one of the highest prison pop in the world. This method prevents minor offences from having short pirson sentences which will actually increase chances of repeat offences!
Tana Collier Can you please show me these stats? I actually think that your justice system or lack thereof is one of the largest reason your country is so fucked at the moment. I don't just mean the prisons but the Police training, the prison sentencing laws, and also the horrific prison conditions!
Sending people to jail over petty crimes has already been proven to only make them into harder criminals. You are sending sheep to live among wolves so to speak. They will be forced to adapt or be broken, abused and/or used. Prisons are not a place for learning the right kind of lessons. Look it up. This judge is doing the community a service by not letting it come out of taxes but also doing those people one. By keeping the case personal the people are forced to look at their actions rather then just feel sorry for themselves and rebel with their new found criminal knowledge layer on.
More judges like this man is definitely what we need in this country. When I did playground duty I handed out punishments like, two kids fighting? Can’t believe there are people commenting that this is “cruel and unusual” punishment. He is giving them a choice to serve these punishments or go to jail, so no argument can be made that this is cruel and unusual. They are choosing to have these alternatives as punishments; he’s not forcing them to do it.
It IS unusual. but that doesn't mean it's not good. Nobody can criticize the judge bacause hr gave them a choice, he didn't IMPOSE. In terms of effectivity and goodness, these creative punishments are benificial on all levels and perspectives.
This man is literally turning people's lives around. That's what they need a wake up call, a little embarrassment and hopefully they probably never do it again. Good judge, God bless him and his kind heart.
Exactly, he might be a strict judge, but he is so kind, he gives people a second chance to improve themselves and not just as suspects but as human beings, that some judges don't do. We need more empathy and compassion in this world especially to people who are in need and for rehabilitation. He kind of reminds me of an Albuquerque Police Officer Ryan Holets who adapted the child of an addicted mom and instead of taking her to jail, saved her life by offering her and her homeless addicted husband to go to rehab. It would have been cool if the two would have met each other, I bet they'd have a lot to share about their experience working in the legal system. They are great people.
"I think it's better than goin' to jail, because... I think I can show people I can do better in my community" I think this kid's outlook sums things up pretty well, right here. I've never gone to court for anything other than a speeding infraction, but even that imposes some level of... embarrassment? nerves? humility? Either way, putting small-time or first-time offenders in front of this authority and giving them this choice really does seem to really take advantage of an opportunity to people to get out of the criminal cycle, mindset, before they get to deep in it. They get a brush with the criminal system, see that they could go to jail and understand the gravity of the ways in which the Criminal Justice System could permanently alter the course of their lives. But then they get the offer of this alternative sentence, and, at least based on the ones showed here, they are more focused on encouraging self reflection and building a contextual awareness of what their crimes could be doing to others. While some people are too heinous for this approach, I think it's, conceptually at least, a great way to encourage people to learn and grow as an individual within a community - versus jail, which, if anything, only further ostracizes people - to give them the chance to become healthy, productive members of society.

Spawn Effect, don't take MaM too seriously. It was a piece put together by the defense attorneys. The main guy is undoubtedly guilty (e.g. he lured the woman over that day, had drawings of torture rooms, her body was found there, blood, etc.) The nephew might be innocent.
I suspect that the 75% vs 10% averages are a tad misleading. He is a judge for primarily minor offenses. A vast majority of the offenders aren't going to be seasoned criminals. The 75% figure, however, most likely is across the board. Which would include courts that have very seasoned and serious criminals. That said, 10% still sounds impressive... I just don't think it is anywhere near 750% lower than the average court that handles the same level cases as he does. It wouldn't surprise me, however, if his figures are 200 to 300% lower though. So, still impressive.
Thrilled Bread, yes, that’s a proven fact. They go to an environment with more experienced criminals who teach them how to become better criminals. There’s very little rehabilitation in prisons.
He makes some very relevant points. Criminals start with misdemeanours, then jail time leads to further hardening through contact with other offenders. Best to keep them out of jail, but pay a price that teaches them a lesson.
Oh yea, jail is the graduate school of crime. And our system puts very little emphasis on rehabilitation so his form of jurisprudence is much better than 98 percent of judges working in the US justice system.
@@christofferrasmussen6533 You can't dictate what people should say. Yes, true, "wise" is a good word to use but not my fault a lot of people misuse the word "woke".

This is a good way to actually attempt to correct people's behavior BEFORE potentially ruining their life.

It definitely works. 10% is definitely far better than the 75% national average. Every judge needs to learn from him. Plus it would help the overcrowding problem the entire USA is facing.

You gotta be kidding
Chanta Pressley Hell yeah.
James Fullecido A homicide case wouldn’t be heard by a court at his level.
This judge is not only extremely kind, but he’s right too. Larger offences often start off from smaller repeated offences that’s caused by jailtime, by his creative and embarrassing punishments, they’re discouraged to not repeat their crime. 10x better than sitting in a concrete box all day.
That’s why he does this and why his repeat offender rate is so low. He’s trying to help fix the criminal justice system.
Some pinheads will offend again no matter what, but the majority sure learn their lesson.

I think I can show people I can do better in my community"
I think this kid's outlook sums things up pretty well, right here.

I use the word "woke" because *truly woke* people have woken up from all the bullshit they never noticed before, or they're able to see more of this world or walk their own path rather than following their programming placed on them by schools, parents, society, etc, in this judge's case he chose to be creative rather than follow the usual routine punishment.
Another great example would be doctors that no longer demonise eating fat after being taught many years that fat was the primary cause of many illnesses and diseases.
Judge Cicconetti retired in 2019. He once sentenced a man to paint courthouse railings with a toothbrush! The punishment was for vandalizing a rail car! It was featured on A&E’s ‘Court Cam’!
He got the activity he loved😂
Holy cow! Hee!
Lol
I hope more people like him exists
If only there were other judges like him
We need more judges like this in the world.
This theory may not work 100% on everyone but i bet it really does work better then our current systems.
Treating people with dignity and respect, yet still facing some sort of judgement.
"does this mean i can still drink on probation?"
i fricking swear he was drunk when he said that
Listen closely and you hear "can't"
"Did you take your dumb pill today?" 😂😂
I think you're drunk asking the question.
the awful woman tortures her dog:

i wish he wuda done more. like also made her clean her dam house in the next 15days, a disgusting pig is what she is.
@@Emmanuelulate I mean that was prolly part of it
He shouldve forced her to stay in the dump a week and starve like she made the dog do
She deserves much worse

What an intelligent man !!! Who obviously uses more than a little psychology in exactly the right dose when dealing with these offenders.Bravo, super, well done Mr.Judge.
One of the best judges in the US. 10% recidivism rate compared to the national average of 75% ... he's doing this job right.
i would like to know how high that rate is in other smaller citys since im pretty sure that rate is lower in smaller communities
+Wayne seppo I can tell you that rate is consistent. I grew up in a small town and spent plenty of time in the probation system.

Ok off to jail I go thanks.

“He was JUST there for a week your honor” 🙄
If he doesn’t have water for a week, he dies.
if he doesn’t have food for a week, he becomes emaciated and malnourished.
If he doesn’t get love for a week, he feels neglected and unloved.
I can’t believe she used the word just to describe how long she left that dog. I’m glad Moose has gained his weight back and hopefully a new home by now
Consider that time is 7x slower for dogs, that dog was actually left there for the equivalent of 7 weeks
The punishment did not fit the crime. Making her spend a day in a dump isn't helping anything. It's not teaching her empathy. It's not giving her a reason to care. It's is, however, likely to compound what's wrong with her in the first place - a lifetime of neglect and probably abuse. She doesn't look like someone who has been taught self-confidence, pride, and fairness, or to care. She needs a hell of a lot more than a week in a place where she probably already feels like she belongs anyway.
@@beths3288 it did teach her something. It taught her how her dog felt being alone, how moose felt being abandoned, how moose felt all alone and scared. Trust me no one would do something like that if they had a punishment like that
Poor dog. And what's so sad about it is that they don't forget those types of things. The previous owner of my dog used to spray her with a high pressured water hose for punishment and now when I go to refill her water bucket, she backs off and then runs to the end of the fence. But thankfully, I've shown her that I'll never do that to her and now she is comfortable being around me while refilling her water.
Yeap, I did a double take when I heard her say that. I bet the judge wished he could have been harsher. He should have sent her to therapy also and banned her from owning an animal again. Hoarding is a mental illness.
How is it public humiliation when you’re completely hidden in a chicken suit lmao 😂
Because it will be posted on television and internet - it's not like his identity is hidden.
In my old neighborhood
Lmao it is believe me. I had to dress as a cow for promotion in the restaurant I worked and even tho nobody "sees" you 1 the ones who knows it will bring it forever, 2 they will tell it to everyone, & everyone will keep sharing it & 3 you still feel embarrassed, you're doing something ridiculous & people's reaction is many times humiliating specially kids😂😂.
Dasuri Torres sounds pretty bad sorry, but compared to the other things in the video I know I’d prefer the chicken suit :)
I do agree 🤷♂️
"You ran a stop sign, sir?"
"Yes sir, I did"
"Life in prison, no parole."
"Or, a stop sign has to run you"

This judge has shown that there are more intelligent and effective ways to deal with people that come to his court so they may learn what they did and found guilty was inappropriate. Some people may think this is an eye for an eye yet it is not. It’s simply brilliant. It teaches a lesson, it keeps the person out of jail which helps with saving money for the community, the person found guilty and gives faith to realize that someone is willing to give another person a break but yet they still are held accountable and not just put in a hole in the wall behind bars. Kudos to you your honor. This is how my father, Irene who is 84 years old raised me as a child. Thank you and God bless.
