I reserve the right to be on occasion, full of it.
Tim did you notice that Keenan Thompson was behind you at Farmers Market ? I used to go there every Sunday after a local AA meeting. I have stories 😀 Glen was my idol growing up I had all of his records and I finally had the good fortune of meeting the legend and his Family in 2010 Such a sweet guy. Your series is Fantastic my friend keep them comin 😀
No I did not. I just took a look and it sure does look a lot like him. Only in Hollywood!
Yep Especially at the Farmers Market
Glen Campbell was one of the best guitarist musicians of all time. Thank you for paying homage to his life & his career. Excellent job on this video. RIP Glen. You were certainly one of the Best.
I think it was him and Roy Clark and Roy wasn't the singer Glen was.
@@RockessentialTim Roy Clark certainly was a singer & a guitar virtuoso as was Glen Campbell.
I have been waiting for an expert to put Glens session history all together. Thank you Tim for taking me with you to all the recording studios.
His musicianship is finally getting the attention it deserves. Miss you Glen
Thanks, Tim!!! Totally cool Glen was a one time Beach Boy 🏄♂️🏄♀️ 😎
That is incredible, right?
@@RockessentialTim I have adored "Lineman" since I was a kid. Recently teared up when I saw him perform that song w/an orchestra. It was quite moving💕💕🕯
Glen Campbell was an excellent musician. My father especially liked his music. ❤❤❤🎸
As a kid I used to watch his show with my parents.
Thanks for all your great work Tim. Really takes me back. Always look forward to these.
Thanks my man!
Campbell with Roy Clark doing Ghost Riders in The Sky is some of the best guitar genius ever
Love it. My friend Stan Jones' dad actually wrote that song one night while stationed in a fire overlook. Stan still has the original lyrics written on the back of scrap paper.
@@RockessentialTim That is awesome. What a piece of history 👍🎼✍️
Great vid. Awesome subject matter, well produced. I'll be sharing with my like minded friends. 👍
As always, thanks!
thanks for sharing this Tim , much appreciated , Cheers ✌️🎸👋
Right on!
Fantastic Tim what a talent he was…
Totally!
Awesome. Thanks for the tour and overview. I have a good collection of his records. Wichita Lineman may indeed be one of the best songs ever.
Love it! My personal fave Glen song is Galveston.
Absolutely another winner! And I totally agree with Mr. Zimmerman..."Wichita Lineman" is a magnificent song that says so much, yet is so incredibly spare. See you on the next one, Tim!
Will do. See you down the line!
I saw Glen live in orem Utah in the late 90's with his daughter the show was great 👍😊 he was playing with his twelve string guitar it was blue this was at the open amphitheater
You knocked this one out of the park, Tim. As a 15-year-old kid during the summer of 1969, I loved the weekly Smothers Brothers replacement show he did. Like Johnny Cash's show around the same time, he brought in musical artists from all genres (a vivid memory for me is Mason Williams with a full orchestra playing the still-iconic "Classical Gas"). If you loved music no matter your age, it was indeed must-watch TV. "Wichita Lineman" is indeed one of the greatest songs ever written so kudos to Jimmy Webb, but no one else has ever come close to Campbell's version. Not a month goes by that I do not crank it up on my monster vintage home audio system.
I knew about Campbell's Beach Boys participation back when it was actually happening, but I did not know about the infamous Wrecking Crew until the rise of the internet during the 1990s. As I learned more and more about them, I was astonished at Campbell's musical history in Los Angeles. It seemed that he, Hal Blaine, Tommy Tedesco, Carol Kaye, and Leon Russell had played on every gold record you could name from the mid-to-late 1960s regardless of genre. And I remember being flabbergasted upon learning that he could not read music.
I have long enjoyed the fact that one of Campbell's best golfing buddies was none other than Vincent Furnier (better known as Alice Cooper). What a hoot it would have been to see Alice stopping by Glen's home to pick him up on the way to play in a celebrity golf tournament!
I did not know about the abandoned 7-acre Campbell estate in Laurel Canyon. Where is it in relation to the Frank Zappa / Joni Mitchell / Mama Cass / Peter Tork houses, who owns it now, and do you expect it to be salvaged / redeveloped? Seven acres sitting on a hilltop is a huge parcel for Laurel Canyon and I would think that someone with very deep pockets would want to bring that property back to life at some point....
He was indeed a force of nature. The Laurel Canyon house is in the very top of Laurel, actually overlooking the San Fernando Valley. It right underneath the Radio Towers at the top of the hill.
Damm good video. This is special to me . I love it and can’t wait to show it to my husband . He insists on playing Glenn Campbell in our barn on the weekends . I forgot he was married to Mac Davis”s wife , for a minute. I had told my husband before that Glenn Campbet put a lot of entertainers to work in his Glen Campbell music show. Love this information and location places so much. Thank you Tim , I was just thinking about you, and was wondering what was coming up😂. I have seen videos on Glenn”s final resting place . Which is nice and private and family owned❤👍⭐️🎸🎼🎤. I seen a JohnnyCarson show recently with Glenn as a guest and I thought yeah his is buzzed on Cocaine & alcohol. What an amazing entertainer ! Kat 🐊🦩
I used to watch his show with my parents. Good times indeed!
Glen was brilliant, his “Twenty Golden Greats” album was often played in my house growing up in Belfast Northern Ireland as my parents loved him.
I didn’t really know much about his session work until the early 90’s. One album that Glen shines on is Gene Clark’s first solo album “With The Gosdin Brothers” - often considered one of the first country rock albums, Glen’s guitar playing is unmistakable.
I still play Glen’s music/records - one thing that is often overlooked is Glen’s beautiful voice, he sang like an angel.
Great video!
Thank you for this.
Its pretty incredible how many songs he played on. I can still remember being a kid and watching his show with my parents.
Wichita Lineman, a song I keep returning to . Skylar Gudasz does a beautiful version. Song evokes a longing I cant explain
VERY IMPRESSIVE. NICELY DONE. THANK YOU.
Groovy video, Tim! My favorite song by Glen Campbell, is Rhinestone Cowboy! Loved the picture of my good friend, Linda Ronstadt with Glen. Rock on!
Great surprise! So glad for another video release before my trip! Thanks Tim
A great and well presented video. I had no idea how tumultuous his life became near the end. I enjoyed watching this!
And one of his regular golf buddies was non other than Alice Cooper. What a trip !
Great stuff, again ! Thanks !
Would have loved to be a caddy with that group.
@@jimz68 Alice Cooper is performing this month @ the Pac Amp!!!
Gotta Love Gllen ! Great Stuff as Always Tim ! Thanks for Posting ! Peace and Best, Rudy
Thanks Rudy!
"I'll Be Me" is really good. It's sad but amazing. His daughter plays on tour with him and Kim truly loved him. He finally found real love. What an incredible talent. His music always reminds me of my parents! Thanks for the great video!
It was one of the few shows that I used to watch with my parents. Something to be said for that me thinks.
Another great one, Tim. Keep up the great work.
Right on, thanks.
Man i love your direct and coherent presentation style (too many Ai- voiced docos these days btw). Another well-produced video full of interesting details I didn't know. Will give Rhinestone Cowboy a listen now and also look at his guitar technique...
OMG sometimes it kinda feels like you were born to do this Tim. This was *just so good.* Thank you!
Thank you!
I was lucky enough to see Glen live in Liverpool circa 2008. To hear those Jimmy Webb songs live was special indeed. People don’t realise Glen was an incredible guitarist. Thanks for another great video Tim.
I never got to see him. I didn't become a big fan til after I saw the Doc on him about 10 years back.
@@RockessentialTim I came to him through his part in the Beach Boys story and those incredible Jimmy Webb songs. BBC did an outstanding documentary on him that opened my eyes even more. Guitarist, singer, songwriter, actor. An incredible talent.
@@adriancork Amen to that. I think his singing gets a bit overshadowed by his guitar playing. He could really bring it.
Another excellent video! Love it! ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Love your videos. You do a great job telling the story with your thoughts but also with the details and facts, along with great music.
Thanks!
I had no idea that Glen had that kind of problems with substance abuse. He had so much talent
Great as always Tim.. thxs!
Thanks!
I agree Tim it was an incredible documentary. My favorite of his songs was By the time I get to Phoenix.💖
I love that one and I love the album cover for it too!
I have to say it again....another great piece, Tim. I've never seen Glen Campbell's name included on any list of "greatest guitarists" but it sure belongs there.
That is a really interesting observation cuz now that you mention it, I've never heard his name either. I think a lot of people don't consider a studio gun for hire as artistic as someone that only makes music for their own projects. It doesn't really make sense though, does it?
Tim , We love Glen's music . Always spell bound with your episodes. Capital Records has lots of great history there at Vine & Hollywood .
We were performing Galveston song in Galveston Texas before the hurricanes
and now our heads in Mississippi 🎸🎸 we'll be sharing to friends.
Thanks much. Are you touring in Mississippi?
First outdoor concert ever in 1976,Farmfest. My name is Bicycle Bob and I approved this message and I also saw the original HHH,and a peanut farmer too.
Another great video, thank you Tim
Fabulous guitarist and vocalist. Growing up in the 70s even though I gravitated towards rock music, I loved Glenn Campbell's music. Wichita Lineman is a favorite, and I can certainly understand why Dylan thought so highly of it. Glenn was on British television in 2012 I believe the Graham Norton show and still killed it. This would have been after his Alzheimer's diagnosis presumably. He actually passed away on my birthday. RIP Glenn. Great video as always Tim.
It is a great song. My personal fave was Galveston. It wasn't a protest song, it was just a song from a lonely soldiers point of view.
Nive walkabout/driveabout. Loved it. Talented guy.
Phenomenal musician and wonderful singer alas went too soon .
Another Phenomenal Video Tim, Thank you very much
Yer welcome, thanks!
I love the story told by Alice Cooper who was Glens closest friend about how people like Axle Rose would want a session with him because he was the best .
Tim I love your content,, always entertaining, well documented and scripted with great pacing. I wish the YT algorithms would push your channel more because you deserve it! Thanks
Thanks much. I'm pretty happy with how things be going though.
very well done. I enjoy the sites and background story.
Thanks, Tim! Rhinestone and Lineman are both very much part of the soundtrack of my childhood. As a grown up I love Glen's music and musicianship. Greetings from the lovely German island of Rügen this time. Ps. Would you consider doing videos about Lee Sklar and Jeff Porcaro?
As a preteen I used to watch his show with my parents. I love Leland Sklar and am a big fan of his UA-cam channel. Would love to do a video with him instead of about him!
Just do it, man! 👍
Wichita Lineman is an amazing song. It’s beyond an amazing song. If you havent read it yet… There’s a great book about Wichita Lineman by Dylan Jones. The book is called “The Wichita Lineman: SearchingIn The Sun for the World’s Greatest Unfinished Song”. It’s full of amazing stories regarding and surrounding the song’s genesis and legacy. To me the greatest part of that song is the couplet, “And I need you more than want you. And I want you for all time…”. Even as a little kid back in the late 1960s that really hit a nerve. 56 years later the song still hits me hard EVERY TIME I hear it. Thanks for another great video Tim. I’m an almost 61 yr old native Angeleno who still lives in Hollywood. I always love your videos even if I already know most of the stories. L.A./ Hollywood from the movie business to the music business has always been modern L.A.’s heartbeat. And the way you share these stories helps keep it beating. It’s the small hidden gem stories that really reveal a whole lot. Unfortunately many of them will be lost to history as Boomers & Gen Xers age out. But like L.A./ Hollywood always has done… It will continue to reinvent itself. Peace to you, Tim. ✌🏽❤️🎸
Love your comment, especially how it will continue to reinvent itself. Inescapably true!
Big fan of Glen Campbell always and forever. Loved the video and the stories that came with it. Another great job, thanks again!
Thanks!
Thank you for all you do Tim. The B/W Longhorn Bass photo is from the STP session-Pure Magic, Check it out.
Thanks. I'd love to check it out but what specifically is the STP session?
Very interesting video, as always, Tim. As a music lover, I enjoy watching this kind of stuff to know more about artists. I look forward to the next one.
Thanks much!
Thank you thank you thank you! Loved his music and guitar picking. It's sad to see that abandoned mansion in L.C. If those walls could talk!
Thanks much. Fun fact, I live maybe a quarter mile below that house, I can see the property. palm trees from my patio and I never knew he had lived up there. With the price of real estate here in LA I'm somewhat shocked that it has remained vacant for so long.
@@RockessentialTim Another homerun Tim. Sucks that some of the spots don't exist anymore. I hate what's happening in Hollywood these days.
@@henryfung6789 The studios aren't gonna last long thats for sure. Even Capitol is in jeopardy. Crazy times for sure.
@@RockessentialTim In 2010 when news broke that Abbey Road Studios was under threat of redevelopment, within a week the British government stepped in to prevent it happening - even though the building itself has no special architectural merit. Can't say the same about the Capitol Records Tower - it's world famous!
@@garyhenson117 Record Plant announced its closing TODAY and Ocean Way (United Studios on Sunset) closed about 6 months ago. We only architectually cherish new strip malls in the US.
friends still tell me they saw Glen and Tony Joe White in Concert on TV in the 1970,s in black and white and they them self are great musicians, they said it was the best thing they ever saw. steve in Australia.
Another good one Tim. I always liked Glen Campbell. I always said that as far as guitar playing, nobody could touch him, Jerry Reed, Roy Clark and Chet Atkins. Four of the best.
Totally!!!
Outstanding as always. Great picture at 6:40. Thank you.
Do you know what movie they're filming in that pic?
@@RockessentialTim Honestly that never occurred to me that was a movie shoot. Looks like Barbara Streisand sort of. Was it "A Star Is Born"?
@@lizzard71 BINGO! That's Kristoffersen standing next to her.
Your videos are always great, I like your attention to detail with your commentary and visiting the historic locations! I think your theory about Glen’s .vocal on “Gentle On My Mind” is spot on!
Thanks much. I think about him everyday cuz I can see the tops of the palm trees on his old Laurel Canyon property from my backyard.
Love these videos
Right on, thanks!
Finally! An episode with no mention of the Eagles.
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day also Monday was my friends birthday ❤😊
Happy birthday!
Awesomeness!! 🤘
Rock on!
I didn't realise Campbell could have joined the Beach Boys.
The best music channel bar none. Tim is the man. I'm just goung to listen to Wichita Lineman and Rhinestone Cowboy.
Thanks! While you're at it, take a listen to Galveston which happens to be my personal fave!
@@RockessentialTim I will right now, Tim.
@@RockessentialTim And I did. I remember it.
I know some old American in Chiang Mai who knew Campbell well, so Campbell's history with cocaine didn't surprise me.
Glen Campbell is high on my list of favorites as a recording artist and celebrity. I had the good fortune of meeting him at the PGA tournament in Memphis, late '70s. We exchanged a few words and he was very gracious. I have two favorite songs from his catalog. The big hit, Wichita Lineman and the lessor known title track from his 1987 album Still Within the Sound of My Voice. There is an excellent quality video on UA-cam of Glen Campbell appearing on The Ralph Emery Show which includes the interview and live (not lip synced) performance of that song.
He sounds like he would have been a great hang. He seemed to know a little about everything.
Loving all of your videos tim ,great to see it's growing 👌 ud have to say Glen could play anything and that documentry I really did shed a tear!
Thanks, Mick. He was most certainly a guitarist's guitarist.
Another great story Tim. I never followed Glen closely, but love a few of his songs - with Wichita Lineman my hands down favorite. He was an incredible talent as part of the Wrecking Crew and beyond. Many Thanks from the New Jersey shore...Tom
Thanks Tom! I have to say, I think my fave Glen song was Galveston which was also written by Jimmy Webb.
Always enjoy your most awesome videos! Cheers from Laguna Beach!! 🙏
Well I LOVE Laguna so right back at ya!
Great choice Tim. He spent his last days in Nashville. He left behind one hell of a song list to be played into the afterlife.
Right on!
I know it's been a few years since Glenn has passed away. But man I really don't like becoming the "older" generation. Sadly more of my youth gone. My Late parents used to listen to the KFOX radio station that was in Long Beach, CA. It was a country & western station . So I heard Glen and all of the other country stars. Which was ok, but my heart will always be Rock & Roll.
A lot of rock & roll in country and a lot of country in rock & roll, right?
@@RockessentialTim Yep.
Tim, Glen borrowed Wrecking-Crew bassist Carol Kaye's Danelectro Longhorn 6-string bass for his famous solo in "Wichita Lineman" (1968). That b&w photo in your video of Glen playing that very model of Dano bass must have been taken later, as he looks older to me. Am I right, do you know?
I do not know for sure. I heard six string so I assumed it was a barry but I could very well be wrong. My guess is Glen could have played that lead on a piece of dull barbed wire and it would have rocked!
I am pretty sure Glen played a Fender Bass VI on Wichita Lineman not a baritone guitar.
According to Carol Kaye he played a Dan Electro at the session and I'm not completely sure if it was a bass or a baritone. I believe he played the Fender during a TV show he recorded shortly after. Whatever the case may be, it sounds frickin' awesome!
@@RockessentialTimwell if Carol Kaye said he played a Dan Electro I won’t question her, she’s the queen.
I should prolly think about doing a vid about her!
@@RockessentialTim you absolutely should,Tim..she's a legend!👍
@@6412mars I think she still lives here in LA, no?
