Recorded June 2020 - NH, USA Four bright turquoise Catbird eggs were laid in our lilac bush in the backyard. Hope you enjoy watching them grow as much as I did!
Awesome video! The gray catbird is my favorite backyard bird. I look forward to them returning every April/May and miss them when they leave in the fall. They're so active and curious, very nosy and interested in what I'm doing in the backyard. And their "mew" call makes us laugh every time lol I just find it cute and hilarious. And just like the robin, their call reminds me instantly of summer, my fave time of year.
So glad you enjoyed the video! They really are quite the characters! Following me around the garden and almost scaring me as I’ll look up and they are just there looking at me, only 3 ft away.
Great video! I learned about gray catbirds for the first time this spring and this week found a nest with 3 nestlings in my yard. Been fun to watch and learn about them.
Near the end, one of the hatchlings looks directly at the camera. I like to think that's them thanking you for keeping such a good eye on them. Or maybe they're just thinking "Yo what the hell is this thing?"
Too funny! Probably a bit of both. I was overjoyed when the fledglings came back to my yard once their parents showed them the magical place the mealworms come from
I have too many catbirds to count every spring. It seems like every year I have more. They especially love raisins and grape jelly and a bird bath. I have 2 birdbaths in the back yard and 1 in the front. Lowes is the best place to buy birdbaths. Home Depot doesn't even sell them any more where I live. WRZ 2020-05-23 Delaware County, PA
Both parents worked very hard. We had a very hot summer and no rain that year so it wasn’t easy. They are mesmerizing to watch, I love every second of it! Counting down the days until they return again! 🥰
This is my first year to have catbirds in the yard. They are not shy at all. They always keep an eye on me and follow me around when I work in the yard. They know that when I water the plants, the worms come up and they like that. I didn't didn't know that they've built a nest in the dogwood bush until I tried to trim it. One of the pair landed beside me and screamed. Haha! Startled me half to death. I hope they successfully rear their babies out of that bush this summer.
Agreed! Our catbirds are very curious as well. Always just a few feet away watching me. And also scaring the crap outta me too when I don’t realize they are so close 😂 Hope everything goes well with the nest!

I just got an oriole feeder with places for jelly. We'll see if I get catbirds before any orioles!
