What is Thermit Welding? | Skill-Lync

- Thermit welding is a process that uses heat from an exothermic reaction to produce coalescence between metals. The name is derived from ‘thermite’ the generic name given to reactions between metal oxides and reducing agents. The thermite mixture consists of metal oxides with low heats of formation and metallic reducing agents which, when oxidized, have high heats of formation. The excess heats of formation of the reaction products provide the energy source to form the weld.

I have been doing this type of welding sense the late 70's for U.P.R.R. Very little has changed except the cheaper versions of the process.
Woowww get my concept crystal cleared thanks a lot!!!
Thanks. Was not aware that thermite included the metal used to fused the railtracks, Thought it was just used as an intense heat source. Now I know! 😊
Great video!! Short and to the point!!
I used to make the molds that fit over the tracks I worked for this company for 21 years before they went back overseas the company was orgo thermit inc
Great 🥳 now I understand my topic 😉 !!!
So if I have a power source and materials at the location thermite welding offers no other advantages?
Great video
Loved it skill lync team. Great Work.
Thank you for your feedback. You made our day! We look forward to continuing to serve you well :)
More information on whits uses would be useful.
Thanks for this great video
Tq it's very useful
I wonder how thermal expansion is handled when you weld the tracks
They dont. In the winter time the rail contracts and breaks. They add track to fix that. In the summer time the rail expands and they have thermal misalignments. So they cut rail out. And so on
In the United States, it’s spelled, “thermite.“ The vowel sound is a long “i”.
Carrying electric generator and a welder is way less than the huge amount of equipment required by thermite procedure....
not to mention they have a train going to the location🤣
It's pronounced thur-mite (Thermite)
great video sir. THank you!
We hope you have an amazing experience & learn lots of exciting stuff! :)
