Thanks for a great video and update 👏👏 shame it couldn’t have been saved as a railway but it’s better to have the greenway than being built on and lost forever.
The one thing that gets me is how there are some parts of the route that has had private development on it despite the fact it's still owned by Irish Rail, it was a similar situation on the Tralee to Fenit line as well
how this was allowed to happen should be criminal. The old railway should have been restored and electrified and a proper commuter town plan for Killeagh, Mogeely, Ypughal and Castlemartyr be drawn up. A greenway should have been created from Youghal through Redbarn, Knockadoon, Garryvoe, Ballycotton, Cloyne, Ballinacurra, and back into Midleton but that would have taken time, money, and planning which the government or the councils didn't want
Thanks for keeping us posted. The outcome is very handsome. Almost O T T and more like a road with no cars than a greenway. I wonder how the disabled will use it . Electric wheelchairs perhaps. Please fly over on a fine Saturday in May to see what use is being made of it. Text book outcome by recent graduates from the school of rural planning with generous funding.
Amazing project, I wish something similar would be done here near Bantry, where the train ended long time ago (sixties). Thanks for showing, excellent footage, as always!
I can’t get over the amount of money being spent down south. Bypasses, bridges, greenways, railways. Here in the north west, nothing is being done. Absolutely nothing.
Youghal isn't the same since they took perky bears away from its original location, man it was so great with the spiral stairs overlooking the beach, now what's there, horrible apartments...will for sure be using this new lane for a good cycle though! Would be better if you had the ghost train and corkscrew slide out the back of perks to look forward to though 😢😂
Another terrible mistake! I sincerely hope it’s the last! Thank god the Athenry to Claremorris line will reopen soon and then on to Sligo. Crazy how some want to rip it up spending 50m to have a bicycle track. Mind boggling!
They have no intention of reopening the track to Sligo. The north west is currently in the bottom 7% of regions in the EU for infrastructure. There is no funding coming for the track beyond Claremorris and the N17 scheme was killed by Eamonn Ryan.
@@adriant1017 The north west has 17.5% of the country’s population and gets 5.5% of infrastructure projects exceeding €20 million. Very much on the hind teat.

It hasnt been used as a railway in 60 years. It's not like people have suddenly lost an important amenity
Our trains matter
It has to be a railway again

A missed opportunity on a massive scale.

Wouldn’t it be something to see that Loco Turntable restored. Hope to be in Middleton on Thursday morning.
It has been , hence the weather shield. Some of the track work leading to it is also being retained I think. Should be a nice feature when finished
1:26 , 1:33 wonder why is there that road marking at those bridges?
Its just to make sure everyone keeps to their own side under the confines of the overpass , as there is no room to swerve out of the way .

Looks fully suitable for road bikes the whole way?
Road bikes , strollers , wheelchairs and scooters . Will do them all
Should of extend the midelton train service instead
Course they should , they'll rebuild the foynes line in under 2 years , this has taken 5.
The surface looks like tarmacadam. Surely a more suitable surface material should have been used seeing as its called a greenway.
There is , its called railway track

They had right to keep the trains would take a lot of the traffic from the road s and way less accidents such a pity
@@DreynoI hear you. But just wait and see. It’ll happen. 😊
