    The infuriating thing about Katana in this movie is that there's a very clear way to give her a purpose and a point. They make it very clear her sword steals it's victims souls, so the clear thing to do is have her make the killing blow on the Enchantress and rip the witch soul from the human lady, they could of even let the human keep the witch powers in case the wanted her back for a sequel. But instead Katana literally has no agency or reason for anything

    "The Suicide Squad is sent by the government to assassinate The Joker, who is now too much of a threat to be left alive. Deadshot and Captain Boomerang are brought in as long-distance assassins, Killer Croc and Katana are hand-to-hand combat specialists, El Diablo knows the crime underground, and of course Harley Quinn knows the Joker. Rick Flagg is a fish-out-of-water who is trying to maintain control over these criminals going back into their natural environment. He and June Moon also struggle with the fact that Enchantress could immediately kill The Joker, but if they let her out June doesn't know if she could control her anymore."
    That took me like 10 minutes to come up with and in the right hands could have been a fantastic film. This isn't a hard movie to write for, The Joker is the perfect main antagonist for this kind of story. I'm still in utter disbelief as to how they screwed this up.

      Fighting the Joker would have made a lot more sense. That would have been much more compelling to see the SS struggle with fighting another common villain, and the fighting would have been much more realistic.

      Now I'm sord of imagining them trying to be used to kill the joker (say, after he escaped the treatment harley was suppost to give), since the goverment realized they can't count on batman to do it for them, and at the end of the movie, joker helps them and makes them embrace their negative desires, making them establish a team by themselves while harley goes off with him.

    • @neal2399

      Batman wouldn't even talk probably, he'd just shoot Joker point-blank in the face for killing Robin, seeing as that was established in BvS.

    • @SophiHan02
      @SophiHan02 7 років тому +5

      Joker was a gangster originally, in the very first comics. So, rather than following the more modern joker, where they focus on his mental issues, they went back to the roots, him being a gangster.
      Now, that's hard to do. The Joker was introduced as a bloodthirsty gangster of the forties, the forties. A gangster from back then, to today, are vastly different. Gangsters today have a ton of guns, tattoos, and all the other things they gave joker. They had to. In order to return to the roots of the joker, they had to modernize him, because a gangster from the forties would be seriously weird and jarring in the modern setting of suicide squad.
      You can think whatever you want about his look, but, the joker was a gangster, yet for some reason people tend to forget that.

    The old comics explained the Suicide Squad better than the movie does.
    For example, they set it up as a "get out of jail card" for doing a good deed, and the deeds were usually odd jobs, or assassinations and such.

      That sounds like something a suicide squad would be set up for...not killing dark wizards and kryptonians and other all powerful beings. Wasn't it also set up as a group of people to do odd jobs that were basically guarenteed to get all of the members killed? Like, that's where the name comes from. And they chose super villians specifically because if they all died during the mission, hey, no great loss, amirite?

    • @Tamaki742
      @Tamaki742 5 років тому +1

      Stephanie Wozny I mean, by common sense they would all just die midway and the supervillains would still be there, so... Why bother setting them up? Why even choose them to defeat the supervillains that they can't even defeat? The only reason they could in the movie is really because the writing is poor from the get go. Logically they should just go infiltrate a country where the US military has no jurisdiction or do recons on black sites. Like in Assault on Arkham, they're told to just infiltrate the Arkham Asylum.

    The one time I read about the Joker going to a nightclub, he literally skins a guy who robbed him, and takes the money back. Throughout the comic, you see his day-to-day life, which mostly involves murdering people who took his stuff, taunting Batman with their bodies, and plotting with other super villains. Never once did he just go to a nightclub for fun.

    • @franklinturtleton6525
      @franklinturtleton6525 7 років тому +50

      Nope. Suicide Squad was written terribly too. The point of the suicide squad was to do things superheroes wouldn't do. Not to combat superman level threats. They could've made a fantastic movie wherein the suicide squad was tasked with breaking into Arkham and assassinating the joker. Harley quinn betrays the team, the joker disables the explosive devices and releases a bunch of prisoners, effectively setting the stage for entirety of DC's universe. Every hero can now have a rogues gallery of villains to combat.

    Hey now Quinton, don't underestimate the DC villains outside of the Batman and Superman rogues galleries. While I don't particular care for Gorilla Grodd (though portrayed pretty well and threateningly in the modern Flash TV series) or Cheetah, Eobard Thawne (the Reverse-Flash) is probably my favorite DC villain next to Lex Luthor. If we're going for well-done antiheroes like how Suicide Squad tried to do, Captain Cold and Heatwave were done amazingly on the CW shows (set up in the Flash, developed fantastically in DC's Legends of Tomorrow). I like how Smallville portrayed Lex Luthor but also his father Lionel Luthor. Black Adam is another neat non-Batman/Superman rogue who is strong, quick and magical. There's also Sinestro, Atrocitus, Larfleeze, Parallax and Krona, which are some cool Green Lantern villains. The Supergirl TV series is portraying some villains in interesting and cool ways, like Maxwell Lord, Non, Parasite, Cyborg Superman and Lillian Luthor.
    I know not all the villains I've listed are 100% awesome but I'm just pointing out that Batman and Superman aren't the only ones with some neat villains. Some may seem lame, but this is why DC is still going strong for me: the movies may not be doing that well, but the TV stuff is incredible and makes me realize how interesting heroes and villains other than Batman, Superman and their respective rogues galleries are.
    Eobard Thawne, man. That's a villain who is just creepy as hell. He's a man from the far future who was obsessed with the Flash and so recreates the means by which the Flash gained his powers so he can travel back in time, only to learn he's destined to become his greatest enemy, which makes him snap and go crazy and hate and want to kill the Flash. He's stalked Barry for years before he become the Flash, being responsible for almost every bad or inconvenient thing in his life. He's done things like even erasing his own brother and even parents (somehow) from history. A master of speed and time travel, he's someone I'd love to get more love and maybe a decent cinematic treatment.

      william timonen Yeah I like villains that have the same powers and abilities as the hero. Zod to Superman, Reverse-Flash to Flash, the Master to the Doctor. What it means is that the hero needs to use their smarts and wit to take down a villain with their same powers, which adds to the challenge. If it was Joker vs Superman, that's kinda easy. Zod vs Superman, that's a lot harder of a fight.

      Real talk tho I was basing my list of decent DC villains on not being Batman rogues, not not having the same powers as the hero to their villain. Lex Luthor and Eobard Thawne are just my favorites though, I think.

    When that person mentioned that the head blowing up was a reference from the comic, it was about as much of a significant "reference" as pointing out that someone from the Walking Dead comics also got eaten by zombies.
    Comic spoilers:
    The person whose head was blown up from the comics was a super villain named Lime who was trying to confess to the Gotham police about the task force. Her twin sister Light had to watch her head explode. Slipknot and Lime both had terrible villain names and both died in the same way to set an example for the rest of the team, except Lime's death is the one that was used to emotionally motivate another character. All I'm saying is that I don't think it's a coincidence that the sister with the hilariously awful half of the name duo "limelight" is the one that died. That was quite literally their only purpose in existing in these stories. Lime's death is so bad, her death could be used as a reference for the Stuffed into the Fridge trope.
    TL;DR Even the source of that reference was terrible.

    22:11 _sighs in Hispanic_
    Not to be that guy, but Diablo's "super sayan" mode looks like a nod to the Mayan god of death Kisin since the thinner feathers and skulls are more common in Mayan headdresses and depiction of said god. If the designers were going for the Kisin route, then they nailed the look minus the fire.
    This being Native American makes no sense since their headdresses have wide eagle feathers and I don't think I have seen skulls in any of their traditional attires. Not every headdress belongs to Native Americans, Quinton.
    Now, does this make it less racist? Unless there's some ancestral backstory for Diablo being related to the Mayan god of death, then pfffff no. It would make it even more racist so since Diablo is hispanic.

    It sounds like i am defending the movie, but I'm, not it sucks. The reason why they use "crappy" villains in suicide squad (at least in the comics anyways, I don't know what they are trying to do in the movies) is that nobody remembers them, they are one offs, don't have much of a fan base, and have peaked, so the writers can kill them off at their own leisure and have a rotating line-up, which is something which just doesn't work in a film marketed to non-comic book readers aka 95% of movie goers. It would kind of be a waste to use good villains and if nobody dies then the whole concept of suicide squad is pointless.

    You're wrong about the part where you said that superhero extended universes were just lazy excuses to make more of the same movie. You literally said "this isn't some big webbed out plan to make it all interconnected and logical" yet Marvel had been planning the MCU since the first Iron Man movie. They made a full timeline of movies that were released in 4 phases... DC on the other hand just went "OH SHIT MARVEL IS MAKING MONEY GUYS QUICK WE WANT MONEY TOO" and shat out a few movies. They did just use an "extended universe" as an excuse to make more movies (yet somehow people think the movies are good *cough cough Wonder Woman cough*)

      Noah Stronach you're entirely right about Wonder Woman being the expectation of a great DC movie not the rule because the rule of the DCEU is absolute shit...

      If you’re saying Wonder Woman is the exception, 100% agree. If you’re saying people claim it’s good when it’s not, I’m gonna have to stop you there.

      BananaDude I think it’s pretty clear that I said people think it’s good when it’s really not. The whole movie just felt like a pandering desperate attempt at feminist appeal, rather than actually creating a female hero people can respect. Wonder Woman is such an empty character in the movie and has zero development as a character. Watch ralphthemoviemaker’s video on it if you need some help.

      Noah Stronach I’m not saying it’s the greatest movie of all time or that it should be winning awards. Im just saying that it was a competently made film that kept me, and plenty of other people, interested throughout. While I don’t think it’s fantastic, I do think some of it’s praise was well earned, and if nothing else, the no-man’s-land scene was really well done. It at least deserves to stand on its own and not be lumped in with the rest of the DCEU.

    From what i remember from the comics, the suicide squad was made so that dangerous missions which would result in casualties could be carried out by an exoendable crew, like the suicide squad who were made to go into suicide missions. Their reward for completing the mission was reduced jail time and they had bombs implanted in their skulls so if they misbehaved theyd be blown up. I dont know why the movie didnt use this explanation it wouldve made so much more sense

    "we got flouride in our water" you do know that that line was supposed to be a joke in a movie made in 1964.
