Origins: Adam & Eve Genetics

  • Join Origins host, Ray Heiple as he welcomes, Dr. Georgia Purdom for, “Adam & Eve Genetics.” A big debate today is whether Adam and Eve were real people. Sadly, many Christian theologians and scientists believe that genetics has disproven the existence of an original couple specially created by God. However, looking at the many differences between human and chimp DNA and by comparing the mitochondrial DNA of people worldwide, observational science shows just the opposite. As our guest will reveal, the data supports, not denies, the existence of a literal Adam and Eve!

Even if the genes seem very similar, that doesn’t disprove a creator. That just proves we have the same creator who creates things similarly. But not the same.

    • @teddansonLA
      @teddansonLA 5 років тому +3

But the similarity of the genes is not the point, its a bit more involved. The genes are not just similar, but are distributed in the natural world in a way that shows a pattern called a nested hierarchy. That pattern arises from branching processes. Railing against similarity is irrelevant - you need to explain the pattern that is a hallmark of evolution.

Even the fossil record doesn’t show any evolutionary changes over time. You only find fossils in their already complete state. Any change in dna is an actual lack of information not an addition to the already dna that’s there. There’s something about the differences in us now that’s important. You don’t see any results of current t evolutionary things happening either. Humans are humans and dogs are dogs and cats are cats.........the list goes on and on. God made everything according to its “kind”, and God saw that it was very good.
Last week I spent a few days in the woods and we are so much more then animals, we are supreme beyond the animals. Human intelligence is so beyond an animal that it’s plain to see with the naked eye. We were definitely made in God’s image.

You are also correct that Jesus was there during creation. For by him and through him all things were made. “And God said” (Genesis 1)that’s the Word (Christ) making the creation. However, he never lost dominion. And his coming into the world was not to get power back. His coming into the world was to atone for our sins and to lay his life down as a ransom for many. He exercised his power over Satan the second he didn’t give into Satan in the desert. About the other stuff you mentioned, I have not read that in the scriptures and I am curious where you got that from.

Had the Bible said something along the lines that we all shared a common ancestor and it branched out into different beings ( just like what the current evolution theory says) then the secular scientists would've had something else to say and laughed it off. It's not about seeking truth it's about finding evidence that suits their preconceived notions that challenges the religious notions.

Patricia - It's not a matter of "wanting to believe". I was raised evangelical but as I matured and gained knowledge it came down to (1) the BIble was true and all scientists and historians are wrong or (2) the Bible is an ancient manuscript of letters, poems, songs, biographies and some history. At its core it's the story of a tribe who became convinced they were chosen by their particular god. Scientific or historical truth never figured since they knew nothing of science or (real) history.
The Israeli=Moab war (2 Kings) has Israel winning. But Moabite stone carving found in Jordan records the same war with a different outcome! LOL This was the standard practice - "history" favors those in power at the moment. Even today we pick and choose. We ignore teachings that rainbows, floods, earthquakes, storms, disease and deformity are divine signs because we know the natural causes. It doesn't make the stories less interesting. We ignore the fact that not a single piece of evidence of millions of Jewish slaves in Egypt has been found because the whole point is the story (I prefer the original Ten Commandments)

Gee really it has to die? It doesn't have to be buried immediately, just before the bones decay and some fossils show degradation before being covered. There is no need for a global flood for bodies to be covered. That is just plain silly. Floods happen every year. All that is needed is a LOCAL flood and not even that as some fossils are found in desert sandstone.
You are arguing from your ignorance on the subject to retain your ignorance. The Great Flood was disproved long ago, by Christians in the 1800's who were looking for evidence of the flood. No college, producing working geologists, has even one class in Flood theory. By NOT using it do the needed jobs for their employers. IF there had been such a flood they would have to take that into and they do not.

It's not about questioning God's narrative, it's about understanding it. The implication in the original Hebrew (placed in proper cultural context) is that Adam and Eve are not necessarily the progenitors of every human, but a pair selected to be priests to represent mankind; and appear to be at least the first *sapient* hominids. (This would explain where Cain's wife came from for example.) But they are the progenitors of the ruling line of mankind, ultimately producing the "kinsman redeemer" or Messiah.
As for the "dust" thing: again, the Hebrew says ""God formed man, the dust of the earth" not "FROM the dust of the earth". Referring to man as dust or clay was a common ancient near eastern way of saying we are earthly or mortal and distinguishing us from heavenly beings or "gods".
As for "evolution", yes they cook the data to exclude anything suggestive of theism. But Genesis itself says the earth *brought forth* or produced various life forms suited for various environments. Not exactly incompatible with evolution! But it happened because "God said 'Let it be so' " not by happy accident, funny coincidence and random happenstance as atheists and philosphiical materialists pretend.

The rest of the quote points out that human physiology doesn't contain dust, and a human can't be made "quickly" from a rib. But then they both agree that this "One time supernatural event" is why it doesn't make sense to us in society today. I've got to throw in the towel here. Because at this point, it's obvious that the rest of the "interview" is going to be a pandering confirmation biased explaining science away with, "Well, obviously it's written in the Bible. Anyways, according to the atheistic community they say that we are far more beyond of those 6000 years the Bible says we are at; I am a Christian person that it is pretty skeptical about what the so-called science have told us about evolution, because they are still looking for that missing link that cannot find, and some other scholars have said that they have found it, yet I doubt it. I guess that the missing link the science is looking for would be found once they accept that we are not from this world and accept that we have an omnipotent Lord that might be that missing link they are looking for!!!

I started out as an orthodox Catholic grounded in absolute belief in the gospel. As I look at other religion and belief systems that grossly predate the Hebrew origins ... the similarity in the fundamental story are humbling, but punch historical holes in diehard believers in obsolete Bible thinking. All of these systems independently keep arriving at a conclusion or belief that there is a Supreme being or God ... all independently arrived at separate from the “Bible” as Jude-Christians recognize. Add science to this, and the orderliness screams that this is not random, but part of a plan from a Supreme Being or God. All these “scriptures” emphasize an understanding about why “humans” exist; how “humans” should live; how “humans” should interact with each other.

Ten to the Negative 33 a part of your observation is spot on... As in it is so simple that even a child can understand it. You have to go through years of higher education to unsee the obvious: miracles don't do themselves. Was Mt Rushmore created by wind erosion? No? Well, then THE WORLD and all that live in it wasn't either. Even the simplest one cell organism is more sophisticated than a space shuttle. Let alone Mt Rushmore. So no.
Some more translations of the same simple statement from a man whose education amounted to the equivalent of a minimum of 3 university degrees:
For from the creation of the world His invisible qualities, both His eternal power and divinity, are clearly seen, being understood by the things made, for them to be without excuse.
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse.
For his invisible qualities, namely his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
      Because His invisible attributes, namely His eternal power and divine nature, are clearly seen from the creation of the world, being understood from what has been made, so that they are inexcusable;
And the translator's note to this last one:
All scientific experiment and true human knowledge is based on the principle of cause and effect-we observe an effect and try to isolate its cause. As a logical corollary, the cause must be as great or greater than the effect, otherwise it could not produce it. Any human being who is both honest and intelligent, confronted with the observable universe, with its incredible order and complexity, must conclude that there has to be a CAUSE who is both incredibly intelligent and powerful-to refuse to do so is perverse. Since we have personality, He must as well. So Paul’s argument is precisely correct. The science of physics tells us that the entire known universe, taking only what is inorganic (not part of any living system), can be described using perhaps 250 bits of information. To describe the smallest protein molecule (unable to live alone, but part of a living system) requires some 1,500 bits of information (the ecoli bacterium some 7 million; one human cell some 20 billion). Now just where could chance plus nothing find 1,250 bits of new information (to produce the simplest protein), if in the whole universe there was only 250? The evolutionary hypothesis as an explanation for the origin of life is ridiculously, stupidly impossible! The science of genetics, with its genome projects, has discovered that a change of just 3 nucleotides is usually fatal to the organism. The genetic difference between a human being and a chimpanzee (closest relative) is at least 1.6%-this represents a gap of some 48 million nucleotide differences. Since a random change of only 3 nucleotides is fatal to an animal, and a dead animal can’t reproduce, there is no possible way that a chimp could evolve into a human. Each individual species had to be assembled separately, just like Genesis says. The ‘geologic column’ is a fiction, since there are multistrate tree fossils. Symbiotic plants and insects could not possibly evolve. And so on.

@@andrewoliver8930 Talk is cheap, show me your evidence. I have never found any conflict between true science and a true understanding of the Bible. Most of the Bible is History and 100 years worth of archaeological evidence shows the Bible to be very accurate and true. As Gerald Schroeder points out there are over 200,000 science books in the Harvard University Library that shows us that the first 31 verses in Genesis are accurate and true. As well as the science books at his school MIT. Remember Elliot Gould the Harvard professor that tired to prove the Bible wrong and died young from cancer after he miserably failed to prove his claim. Then there was Hawking who like Gould failed to prove that there is no God. Again he had sever health problems and even lost the ability to be able to talk. It does not seem to go well with the men of Science that want to fight against God. Although even Hawking raises interesting questions. Which maybe why he defied the odds to live as long as he did in his condition. He says: "Most sets of values would give rise to universes that, although they might be very beautiful, would contain no one able to wonder at that beauty." So why would there be so much beauty in a universe if God did not create us to appreciate the beauty of His Creation? "The Anthropic Principle," contends that the universe was brought into existence intentionally for the sake of producing mankind.
Neil deGrasse even takes the finely tuned universe one step further. He tells us that "one second of time had passed" from the beginning of the Universe. "Without Billion-and-one imbalance to one Billion between matter and antimatter, all mass in the universe would have self-annihilated". If this is not enough for you. We are told that all matter was created in a "Planck era" The length of a Planck era is "ten-million-trillion-trillion-trillionths of a second". Not much time for evolution to take place there. Tyson does not fight against God they way Gould and Hawking did. But he clearly is not tainted with creationist bias.
So is the The Anthropic Principle and the extremely precise finely turned universe evidence for God? Francis Collins would say yes. Although some men of science would say we do not have enough evidence one way or the other so we can say with certainty. Because Atheist Scientist do not have a very good track record when it comes to their health and longevity so it does not seem to be advisable to fight against God. Science in general can say that belief in God is beneficial. For example people that are a part of a community religious group tend to live five to ten years longer and they tend to have higher levels of empathy. So even if we can not prove that there is a God, we can still provide Scientific evidence to follow the Bible and believe in the God of the Bible.
We should also mention Sir Fred and his predictions: "Hoyle found that there were numerous "fortunate" one-time occurrences which seemed to indicate that purposeful "adjustments" had been made in the laws of physics and chemistry in order to produce the necessary carbon." So do we consider this evidence for God or do we just say there is a very high probability that there is a God as described in the Bible. A God that watches over His word and makes the necessary adjustment so that His Word Accomplishes His plan and His purpose.
Now I realize this is just a intro to a few of the "evidences" for God.

Adam and Eve is a Biblical myth, exactly as the Bible itself is a religious allegory, never intended to be taken seriously. It remains the single greatest book of poetry and ancient wisdom ever written by man, *but it is by no means a history book, it belongs to pre-history.* For us to believe in Adam & Eve would be to believe in the mystical Garden of Eden and the evil Talking Snake, which is on its face is a tale that even a 5-year old child would have difficulty believing. I will now completely DISMANTLE this fantastical fairytale, once and for all.
First of all, for only ONE human couple to even survive long enough to successfully reproduce would be one in a billion, particularly given the incredible hazards awaiting all ancient people. The odds of sudden death from predators, illness, stavation, and catastrophic weather events would be monumental, even in the best of times, rendering the survival of just two potential mates virtually IMPOSSIBLE. *The ultimate success of ALL species depends on having as many numbers as possible, which is why ancient man began to live in groups in the first place.* But let's just imagine that this miraculous couple actually DID survive long enough to procreate, then raise the only family in human history... WHAT THEN??
This is when I tear the Good Doctor's superstitions to bits, strictly by using facts that apply to ALL types of animals, worldwide, and for all time: *Whenever you have one only one mating pair of mammals, the result will be offspring with horrendous physical mutations, fatal illlnesses, the propensity to die from all manner of disease, and with this kind of disastrous inbreeding, CONTINUE TO CREATE EQUALLY MALFORMED, MENTALLY DEFECTIVE CHILDREN, FOREVER.* This basic fact of genetics effects all forms of life on earth, and can easily be seen in the breeding of modern day dogs, also known as, "Man's Best Friend." Anyone knowing anything about these beloved pets knows how dangerous it is to inbreed brother and sister canines, and this practice is universally condemned for its inherent dangers. The exact, same thing applies to humans, only more so. This is the precise reason we now have LAWS preventing incest, still the greatest single taboo in human history. I'm sorry to relate, but the myth of Adam and his Mate will remain just that, a myth.

Of course what you say is true today. Genetic defects are multiplied when brothers and sisters reproduce and cause very serious and severe consequences. But the Bible says man was created perfect, so perfect a man could live 1,000 years after the fall. In the beginning there were no genetic defects to be inherited from a still pure genome and therefore would not be the issue you claim. The Bible is much easier to believe than the evolution scientism religion. What we now understand about the genome proves beyond any doubt we were created by a higher power. As a minister and theologian I understand what is truly said in the Bible! Genesis 1:26 and 27 has God saying let us create man in our own image and likeness it does not say he completed that act. Genesis 2 speaks of Adam being created from the dust of the earth, dust of the earth is found throughout the Bible and is a Middle Eastern term still used which means the same as scum of the earth many new converts say they were the dregs of society, scum of the earth, when God saved them. Kabbalistic Rabbinic teaching says that Adam was taken from another people and set aside by God to serve him. Eve's being taken from his rib is simply a term implying she was from the same source as Adam. God uses multiple covenants with Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and finally the New Covenant of Jesus to evolve man to become like God. The New Testament plainly says that this corruptible must put on incorruption, mortal must put on immortality. That we will be changed in a twinkling of an eye, that it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we shall be like him for we shall see him as he is. We shall put on a glorified body like God's then will the evolution of man into the image of God be complete. Its not completed in Genesis 1:26-27.

HERE IS A QUESTION THAT SCREWS CREATIONISM:
Genetics obviously functions as a science, so whatever it's based on must be sound.

What is in the genetic students exam before they graduate?
Is it, "mutations sometimes working, bringing new hybrid populations"?
Or is it, "mutations never working, and can never bring new hybrid populations"?

      @@mom4christ191
e.g. Some pathogens become immune to medications cos of mutations. They are hybrid populations that survive and the old populations continue to die from the same medication. Geneticists say it's caused by a mutation (but creationists say otherwise). Geneticists say that it can sometimes give pathogens immunity to a certain medication. When that happens they try different medications, and it's a big problem and it causes a lot of bother keeping up with it.
Much like with computer virus, they have to keep updating anti virus software.
Back to biology, the mutation gives the pathogen a survival advantage, until we find another suitable medication to fight the pathogen. Read it or see it on secular genetics videos, that is what practicing geneticists claim (they are experienced in genetics) creationist way mostly aren't. Yet they "know" more about genetics (without any genetics experience).
And the very small percentage of creationists that do have genetic experience, they have to go by the secular genetic disciplines if they want a job and they have to leave their personal beliefs at the doorstep.
What is in the exams for genetic students, "mutations sometimes working", or "mutations never working"?
If creationists can't answer it, what does that mean?

    • @timothyrobinson1315
      @timothyrobinson1315 6 років тому

@@Justwantahover Did you think about the mutations could be a common effect in all creatures?
The pathogens that survived the medicine to pass on its mutation must have had the mutation before the medicine was given, if it didn't have the mutation before coming into contact with the medicine it would have died and not been able to pass on the mutation.
All creatures have mutations going on in them all the time. But we have a protein in us that repairs these mutations. If the protein cant repair it, it kills the cell with the mutation. If it doesn't kill it it will likely continue to reproduce these mutated cells and they are usually called cancer. The pathogen isn't any different, when the meds were given, the mutated pathogens were already there, they survived, the non mutated ones died.
This isn't evolution, the ones that died also could mutate and survive or the ones that did mutate could have died off because they couldn't survive with the mutation. In other words the ones that died from meds were exactly like the ones that survived, there was no evolution process happening.
All the lifeforms also have a array of switches and actuators. When the sun is bright and hot, the switches in our skin, called organelles, switch on actuators that cause melanin to form in our skin to block the dangerous UV rays, when the sun goes away the switches turn off and the melanin goes away allowing more light through. This same process also triggers the production of vitamin D in our kidneys.
There are several different switches in the bodies of lifeforms that do a multitude of different things at many levels of microbiology.Take the cockroaches that go and live in caves that lose their eyes. They lose them so they wont damage them, but when they come back out of the cave their offspring revert back to their original selves. No evolution process here.
I think a major problem with evolution is that there are no intermediate fossils. It would take hundred if not thousand of intermediate steps to get from say a ferret like animal to a blue whale. Each process could take up to a hundred thousand years, There should be a thousand time more fossils species, but there isn't any!
Look into the reproduction process and biology of a dolphin, it is just so complex and opposite of other land based mammals.

I think Philosophy is the word covering all of the different things that people believe. There seems to be many different kinds of philosophies. For instance, in the Genesis story there really doesn't seem to be a falling so much as a finding out where we fit into the scheme of things. Adam and Eve were put into a situation where they could not do anything except fail, because they were not perfect like their creator. They had never seen evil, or heard a lie before Satan came crawling around, so they did not recognize it for what it was. Essentially left to make a decision all on their own about something they knew nothing about, they made a logical decision, and it was wrong. None of this was outside of the knowledge of God. He is all knowing, all powerful, and everywhere; so He surely knew what was going on. As a matter of fact he had known it before the Earth was created according to the book of Ephesians. God could have and did create everything just the way He wanted it. When he said it is good, that is what he meant. That is just the way I want it. Man has taken an all powerful God and tried their best to put Him in a box and only let him do what we want him to do. Considering the attributes of God, this world and everything in it is just exactly what He wants it to be. All of our big discussions about religion probably won't fix anything at all. I completely believe that Adam and Eve were just exactly like we are today, except we have the knowledge of right and wrong, and they did not. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Man is imperfect, just like Adam, and cannot do anything about it unless Jesus is really our savior. Even then Man can only do what each one was predestined to do. You see no one really gets a choice about anything. All of your mental, physical, and spiritual, attributes were given to you without your getting to choose. There is no level playing field, because some people never even get the chance to make a choice with the attributes bestowed upon them. If you do not get to hear about Jesus, then you never had a choice. People don't like that theory because they love to look down their noses at their brother, and that takes away the opportunity to do that. What is correct? I don't know. I think whatever your soul believes will have to be sufficient, because you simply can't do any different.

Biblically, faith means trust. It's a trust by evidence seen. God asks that we prove things. To reason. To get knowledge. To study. God has nothing to hide. We develop trust from what is seen, and that which is not seen yet is trusted also because of the trust built up from what is seen. It's much like a human relationship. We don't trust much until a person has gained that trust from what is observed. The difference is though, God is not limited to human powers. He created us.

The bible explained bird and bats as the same "kind" while phylogeny explained the bird as a descendant of archioptrics and the bat as a mammalian cade. Ethiopia? Geographically that is just wrong, the entire Arabian Peninsula is in the way. With regards to skin colour I think too many people use that as a hinge so they can open the door and leave the room so to speak. I don't remember seeing any "blond-haired blue-eyed couple" at the beginning of this video, it did show a couple who most most definitely alabaster but that is because they are carvings. There is no colour involved yet you are "seeing" it. The real issue, and probably one you don't want to recognise, is they are obviously based on European ideals. You don't want to recognise that because you want others to appear ethnocentric when infact you object to Europeans carving their likeness rather than yours. Truthfully, we don't know what Adam and Eve looked like, we do know they lived in a garden that was rich in the things they needed, we also know that garden is long gone and the entire area has undergone a massive ecological change which has also had an effect on the appearance of the local inhabitants. Instead of picking little things and making a huge mountain out of it, look at the big things and see God.
