I show how I use Mylar-backed psa sandpaper on a glass plate as a surface to reface and hand finish sax and clarinet mouthpieces. I have tried a lot of alternatives. This is the best system I have found.

Excellent ideas Keith especially the talc. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. This will come in handy for sharpening my hand tools. Now I won't have to deal with wet/dry paper rolling up on me!...or adhesives needing solvents.

I have refaced a mouthpiece that I bought recently. After the reface the bottom and mid sounded fine. The problem is the high notes sounded slightly choked and do not sing, is there a way to fine tune the top notes of a mouthpiece exclusively?

Usually it involves an adjustment near the tip. The facing curve could be too flat there or too curved. The baffle could be too high or low. The tip rail could be to fat. Difficult to diagnose without seeing and measuring the mouthpiece.

OK, the piece was sold. I was only wondering how I might have perfected the sound higher up on the horn as I was struggling to make it 'just right', thanks anyway..
